Rostow's Model Of Economic Growth,1960 By American scholar W W Rostow To show Economic Growth of a region in five definite stages. All societies pass through these five stages in order to develop from a primitive society into a modern society. He opposed the views of Karl Marx and his views were in the form of a non communist manifesto. Rostow's Model is based on the Primary data of 15 countries and secondary data of a few countries. 1. Traditional society - rural subsistence economy, barter system, agriculture, hunting, primitive stage, no education, traditional and rigid society without any urbanisation, complete absence of modern ideas, basic necessities are met, no Economic development. Food gathering is practised. 2. Transitional stage - Pre condition for take off - infrastructure Development, improved stage, external investment, initial phase of Economic Growth. British gov took the advantage before independence. 3.Take off - Watershed stage, Development of the society and the economy. New industries, modern society emerge, increase in urbanisation, industrialisation, literacy, life expectancy, better employment. 4. Drive to maturity- imports decrease, industrial diversification, industrial hub, self sufficient economy, better living standard 5. High mass consumption - every citizen is employed, has good luxurious life, many sources of entertainment, no leisure time, long work hours, latest technology, modern society.
