The Young and the restless is not the longest running soap opera in cbs history . It has had a tremendous run starting in 1973 but the two longest running soap operas in cbs history are Guiding Light and As the world turns even though these two soap operas are no longer on the air . Across all the networks it is Guiding light , General Hospital , Days of our lives and As the world turns that have had the longest of runs .
