- Grub worms, really just grubs, can munch the mess outta your beautiful green patch - and that ain't cool.
Here is the Dominion 2L I used for my liquid grub application:

Here is the Bayer Granular Product I used in my back lawn:

Yes, Scott's GrubEx is a good product and uses a different active ingredient with many advantages. You should be sure to get the guide I mention - because you'll see all the options I give, why and at what cost. Don't miss it!

Thanks you shown me how to put my back pack sprayer on more easy I been struggling with that
LOL... Who doesn't like "easy head"? Well done, LCN. Well done, indeed.
Boron drench those palms brother, put some 62 around the drip line. Yellow tips need some greening
Easy head i love it
I use GrubEx in early Spring (see package instructions), I water it in thoroughly than have Ortho Bug-B-Gon with the hose attachment bottle on hand. If I notice something chewing on tree leaves or coming out of the lawn, BAM, I spray. One year I had a terrible Japanese Beetle problem but my method has it solved. I'm out in my yard everyday and stay aware of potential bug problems. For a quick spot treatment I have a spray bottle of Sevin handy. Some bugs are "fly by's" stopping in for a check so I end their visit quickly.
I only ever use beneficial nematodes, cedar oil, sulfur, diatomaceous earth, and cedar mulch.
Hi and great video, I live in Michigan and planning to overseed in May with a cool season grass and spring is around the corner can I use tenacity with speed zone when the temperature be up on the upper 40s or use tenacity with surfactant. Thanks again and looking forward for more videos
Thoughts on Milky Spore....?
Have you ever used milky spore?
Just watched this video. You wrote that all grub treatments should be watered in. I live in Japan and did my lawn with sumithion (fenitrothion). The directions for turf said mix 1:1000 and use 3 litres of mix per square metre. I used a watering can and did 3 square metres at a time. There were no directions to water it in afterward so I didn't. Was that the correct method for what I used?
Also... touching your smartphone with gloved hands after spreading chemicals... 😳
Bayer is Monsanto
Spitting on it was pretty cool would have been even better if you rub dirt in it to stop the bleeding
We all need easy head !
Will the granular keep the mosquito off the lawn too?
Why a backpack sprayer and not hose end. Seems backpack would apply much more slowly...
Can i drop grub killer on a seeded lawn would it hurt it
I'm going to switch up my grub control this year and try the dominion. My question is can I put multiple applications of this stuff down in a season. I slacked off last year and I think the grubs got a little more widespread in my lawn as a result. In the past I've done just a June application of grubbex but am trying to branch out from Scotts products.
So can you use a sprayer like you’re using instead of hose end sprayer like I’ve seen in other videos , I would like to to use a my gallon sprayer instead of buying a hose end sprayer
😳Allyn!? Is there something going on with Milogranite?...or is it just a Texas thing cause my Home Depot that carries it do NOT have a SINGLE pallet?...😣
Thoughts on propiconazole? Lawn + trees / roses / garden? I have a dogwood tree that I've pruned beautfiully. Now I see that fungus was the real issues for the branches dying. Anthracnose... :( Thinking about cutting down and planting Crepe Mrytles. I'd spend the $45 on the fungicide... if it is worth it. But if the disease comes back all the time. meh.
Got Bayer Complete Insect Killer (2-way formula) and Grub Killer Plus Control, used both as situation here is drought and difficult to keep insects/grubs in check. Menard's cost $13 for Complete and $19 Grub Killer, used 6 bags (10# bags), set my Scott's Speedygreen3000 at 5.25 (3#/1K) worked out great was able to work the Complete in and around foundation to kill ants, etc! Watered in and now the yard looks even better, took away the stress in my fescue!
How much dose it cost u to maintain the pool and do. U ever use it lol
Allyn,I'm applying my bug killer this week (Bayer Advance - granules) and I am wondering how soon I can apply a fungicide after the bayer (I don't want to stress the lawn but I have a few brown spots - stupid 90 degree days and rain and then cool temps - crazy Michigan weather)
Thanks, love your channel I'm sure you don't get a lot of women who do lawn care but I love it 👍
You can apply them same day. Water them both in together
The Lawn Care Nut
Thanks
Hello Allyn . Where do you get does cool looking neck gaiter? I’m trying to buy one for my Dad for Father’s Day
How much do I need to water in after applying dominion?
do you do anything on pet friendly fertilizer
Milorganite is pet friendly, being just pelletized sewage. It's actually dog attractant.
I realize this is an older post but its Grub season right now and I was wondering if you could do a video on using Milky Spore and Nematodes to control grubs in the lawn, Thx
Probably a dumb question...do you still water in the dominion since it’s a liquid? Was also going to mix in bifin it & propaconazol fungicide.
yes for sure, they all need to be watered in
Thanks! I appreciate the info!
Glad I asked, I didn’t realize that about the liquid fungicide. I thought it was absorbed through the leaf of the plant.
Its late sept in ny. I just seeded and noticed i have grubs should i put down a grub killer.
Another use for duck tape. Arrrg!
New smart sprinkler controller toy? A foreshadow of content to come?
Michael Banados he has had the Rachio on his system for a while. I can’t remember if it was installed when he moved in, or if he changed to it.
wish he had a discount code for domyown as much as i buy from them
I live in North Florida and I pay to have the products put on my lawn. However, when I was enjoying the mow today, I noticed hundreds of tiny moth-like bugs flying up when I mow. I guess I gotta call my lawn guys. My goal is that when I retire in 3 more years I will take control of my lawn and use the LCN as my lawn expert.
I put down that BioAdvanced last month and so far has worked out great (still time will tell). Planning to do another application at end of July to hopefully keep it going on through to the end of fall.
Does anyone know if it is safe to use these sort of products if you have a shallow well (15 feet) that is used for water in the house?
Can you mix dominion with bifen and permethrin or Cyopermethrin or 2-d? and MSO?
I had an idea that I thought you might like. You recently said you wanted to turn one section of the lawn to Bermuda. I thought maybe that is something you could do on your channel while your viewers and followers watch and try the same thing you are doing on their own lawn. People like projects and I have to admit I enjoyed your past videos where you were doing projects with your grass at your other house. It was far more interesting to watch than watching you spray your lawn. For those who like to watch you spray your lawn, you could keep that in the videos but also keep those other people interested as they watch you transform your section of lawn to straight Bermuda. I myslef would actually try to mimic what you do to my own lawn. Show us some of that old school Lawn Care Nut and try some experiments that we can do with you at our home.
not sure if I have grubs? my grass is coming up in clumps it seems like its laying on its side and its very soft and green on top but by the soil its brown. I've turned up the soil and have not seen any grubs just night crawlers. I live in Chicago area. any advise would be greatly appreciated.
Is this the Mike i work with at ford?
@@nedg3740 sorry Ned, I don’t work for Ford.
Since you live near Pinellas county can film some footage there beach restoration south of Clearwater wanted to know if it's going to be nice visit Bellaire beach for our annual beach vacation... maybe you ask some people how they maintain there beach lawns and sand dunes... love it when you show your self enjoying the beach...
I've read that one should start treating in the winter to prevent grubs..
In the northern tier homedespot sells Triazicide as a granular for those concerns. Ace and Lowes carry Bayer complete granular most of the time(places).
Have to say, that milorganite has really made my grass the darkest green on the block. I even sharpened my mower blades and got a blade edger. Going a little crazy with the RGS, Microgreen, etc. soon. I'm even thinking of trying a little red fescue on my hilly part of the lawn. My grass will be so green soon it will absorb all the green from my neighbors and they will be stuck with yellow straw. Of course, after that, I'll have to have the most yellow straw lawn on the block. It's a continual process.
Does rain effect Dominion bc "Do not apply a grub-killer on the rainy season or whenever there is a heavy rainfall. Grubs are easier to control when the lawn is dry." is what Grubex reads.
FIRST AID PRO TIP: When bandaging an extremity (such as a finger,) you should always check cap refill to be certain you aren't occluding circulation. Just press the tip of the finger to make it white, release, make sure it returns to natural color in less than 2 seconds.
Hey LCN or anyone in the comments that can help me out, I’m in NY and a lot of the grub products recommended aren’t allowed to be sold here. Any recommendations on what I can get to substitute ? Thanks b
I’m just North of you on the coast and I would like to do small grass,...like on a golf course. I believe I saw a display at HD,... is this doable?
Why do we have to have a lawn to cut? Is there such a thing as Mini grass?🤔
BTW,..Love the videos,..I’ve learned a lot. Thank you!😘💚
Hello. been watching your videos since about february now. My lawn is going downhill fast and im unsure what is wrong. is there an email or somewhere i can send pics and get questions answered? in so much need of help. i want best lawn in area. This is an HOA area so i need the help before im on the troublemaker list. please any help would be extremely grateful. im a retired veteran living in jacksonville florida with st augustine grass. grass is dying by the week. thanks for any help or direction. -Michael
Got tired of lines getting tangled also. Went and bought a fixed line head for my Ryobi.
Great first aid you should be a paramedic !!! LOL - Thanks for the great video !!
Love your videos bud. I never thought id enjoy yard work but trying to perfect my lawn is addicting. Thanks for the informative videos. Have a great summer !
Can I apply in July as I'm poor & have to save up as handicap old in wheel chair.I have moles due to cribs in yard. Got solar spike to chase away moles but want better yard next year as I live in low housing in ks Thanks for video
I put some grub preventive down about 6 weeks ago. I never really did it in the past because I didn’t have grass in the back. I heard they feed on the roots, so I figured I should do it earlier especially with it always really warm in South Florida. It was the Bayer Grub Control and Turf revitalizer in granular. It worked out very well!
Great video man!
Finally got some Bahia and and a bag of Milo.Excited to see results thank you for being an inspiration to actually put an effort in my yard Allyn.
You have my condolences with your Bahaia
How do you get rid of onion weed??
Late post but that earthway spreader is amazing got it a little while ago, thanks again for the video on it hayne 👍🏻
Love to hear your thougths on using nematodes for killing grub worms instead of chemicals. Besides the advantage of killing other pests as well.
Could you make a video on your Echo String Trimmer. I’m torn on buying an echo or a Stihl
Great video! Why can't these guides be distributed via PDF or via Google Docs and share the PDF URL on your newsletter subscription list? :)
Hey you nut, Just an FYI: I have watched your vids for all the tips and info.. I have never got any compliments on my lawn in 18 years, however this year maybe with a little help from all the rain and your nutty tips : two of my neighbors did this year.. There are still frankn spots and working those spots too. I`m very happy with the look of the lawn. I will get some more Milo and throw R down... Hee hee Thanks again.. Peace
I have the same Echo, love it.
Talked a guy into getting some Milo today. Unfortunately no Bayer Advance at HD, gotta go to Lowe's.
I have a question...how long will the Bayer realistically control insects in a Florida lawn with daily afternoon showers? I don't need to explain the weather, I'm sure you are familiar.
I wonder how or if that Bayer product can be mixed in a backpack sprayer.
Termidor works so well for ants. Not sure if you have ever tried it or not.
Lol love the mandaid
I like the logic in the news letter. I don't really see evidence of a big grub problem. Im sure I have them, but not in the quantity to merit the chemical app
They don't bother my turf. They mostly bother my grape leaves once they start flying. I only put crap down when they are bothersome that way. It holds them off for a few years.
Has lcn got any vids on mole or vole removal-prevention?
Really digging your videos! So much info yet so easy to understand. I just installed a new St Augustine Lawn in Central Florida. I've got your Warm Season guide, but where should I begin with my baby lawn. It's still taking root so I don't want to shock it.
Savage first aid skills!
Al, great video as always! I'm in the market for a wireless sprinkler system to replace my current ancient set up. It looks like you have a wireless system. Do you mind doing a video on that and maybe provide some recommendations? Thanks as always for all the work you put into this!
Chris Zuccaro I saw him say in another comment here that he has a Rachio sprinkler controller.
Jordan McBrayer Thank you Jordan!
How about ticks and ants?
Great content, I wish I would have put down better pre-emergents to prevent the grubs, as they came in and did a number on a part of my front lawn, and I'm severely disappointed with the 24hr Killer, Bayer Advanced, that I threw down super heavy, and after 3 days, those bastages were still squirming under a patch they were loving. I guess keeping a good lawn with lots of yummy goodies is appealing and keeps them going, even if you throw-er down the 24 hour killer. Not recommending that product right now by any stretch.
Get some milky spore for grubs. Apply it for 2 years and you are good for 10 or more. I had some bad grub spots last year so I am going to try milky spore. I’m also going to use some preventative. I hate those little bastards.
Wilhelm Shultz this is what I use works great so far. Ps timing is key for the first year and can be used with other insecticides.
I always notice people water in the granules. Should you also water in liquid treatments?
Liquids need to be watered in even more urgently than granules. The liquid is stuck on top of the grass leaves and is degrading with exposure to sun and air. Unless that product is a herbicide for emerged weeds or a fungicide for leaf diseases, it needs to be watered in after spraying.
Yes all grub apps must be watered in.
Imidacloprid degrades upon exposure to sunlight. Watering in as soon as possible keeps the product effective.
Thanks to you both. Wish me luck.
Allyn you should do a video on applying a growth regulator!
I have crawfish in my yard any suggestions how to get rid of them
Get a cat with a pension for seafood
Pinch the tail and suck the head!
Great video LCN! Any chance for a FL meetup this year? Would be nice to get together of some other folks with similar interest, and are local. I'm near Orlando. Let me know if you'd like to put something together! Craft beers & cigars baby! :)
Should I mix my Grub control with some Bifen and fungicide? Just want to make sure I don't over do it.
Yes you can no worries
Oooo, Someones got Rachio!
I like easy head too.
Thought you were going to pull out a roll of HPHT (hot pink hockey tape) for that polish bandage!
LCN, just saw a 62v battery operated lawn mower by DR power equipment. Would be an interesting mower for you to check out
Can Dominion be used around my hostas plants?
I enjoy watching your videos and have learned alot, I have an unrelated question pertaining to my centepede lawn, what is the tallest height i can maintain my lawn without creating any major issues, I would like to have the tallest thickest lawn I can have with my centepede lawn. Thank You and keep the vids coming.
Hate to be the dirty hippie here, but do you have any thoughts on/experience with milky spore, good/bad/meh?
I'm with you on the neonicinoids in the lawn being low impact absent flowering plants, but I'm still worried about runoff/leeching/uptake by flowers in neighboring beds.
I've never used it but I will look into it as many have mentioned this as an alternative
I did a little digging after I posted the comment and it seems like main issue is that it's super effective against Japanese Beetles, but *only* them -- it will not impact any other pest grubs, like the European Chafer Beetle (which I guess is a pretty common/more likely pest in turf grass). In addition, the Milky Spore bacteria "inoculates" the soil by infecting a Japanese Beetle grub, reproducing, and spreading out from it after it dies. Because of this it can't really be used alongside other treatment methods (at least not curative ones, maybe preventative) -- it relies on the insect lifecycle to establish a foothold. Once it does, it can apparently be present in enough concentration to provide protection for something like 8-10 years, but again that's only against Japanese Beetles.
So it seems like IF your main/only problem are Japanese Beetle grubs then it's a great option, but depending on where you are that's likely not the case so it won't work to replace pesticide approaches. I don't know how I'd tell a Japanese Beetle grub from a Chafer Beetle -- I'm already working on a backdoor degree in Agriculture from lawn videos on UA-cam, I'm not sure I want to add an Entomology hobby too :)
Seven works well liquid or Pellets and or Powder. I am looking for something that will get rid of illegal Aliens any help or suggestions.
Hi LCN folks, what are your thoughts on milky spores for grub prevention. I am in the north Texas area. I know it will take awhile to start working, but lasting 10-15 years would be nice not having to keep applying. I have just under 2 acres to treat.
At Lowe’s today. $9.88 for 10lb bag of Bayer Complete Insect Killer.
From Chicago area. I have merit granules and heritage g fungicide granules. Can I put them down at the same time or spread it out? I have both of these probs every summer....even though the lawn still dominates of course
Curious to know if there is a weed control that ok during the heat of Summer. I'm in St Augustine, FL with St Augustine grass. Thanks in advance
Allyn, you are DEFINITELY cutting more that 1/3 of the grass blade's length in this video :)
Would Sevin also work in June?
Hey Allyn, getting my lawn back in shape after a dog we had for a couple of months, devastated my back yard, doing menard premium( weed and feed, lawn food, and fall), want to put down milo in between, or is that too much nitrogen? I am only appling menard brand this year only, next year will be all Milo (the good stuff)
How long does Dominion take to work? I ordered mine from Amazon 3 June, but it came last week. I went to town spraying it, but of course at the time I am seeing June bugs.
I bought some high yield grub free zone today
Milky Spore worked well for me. No more grubs!
I couldn't find that Bayer Complete granular at Home Depot. I ended up finding it at Lowe's.
Question, my yard is shit but my neighbors is beautiful, is there a way I can encourage their grass to grow my way?
