Two thoughts about Austrian Maiden: 1 - don't forget that Austria is a different country than Germany 2 - An Austrian maiden in the 19th century would not have the upbringing/schooling to enjoy Heine or Schubert. I feel Padgett was well aware of that, making the poem a wonderful elitist dream state even more.
