  • Wetland filter box construction - on Sleeper koi pond
Here I am installing a wetland filter that will filter the pond and deal with ammonia and nitrates. This idea was modified from a aquacape wetland filter it is more effective than a bog filter and is much more effective over a shower system. It does 2 jobs in one filters the pond mechanically and biologically .

Nice filtration set up and it works so a big thumbs up.
I've just at the start of making a pond like yours from pine sleepers, 2.2m x 1.2m x 0.6m and have opted to make a sort of natural bog filter out of a 240L wheelie bin (not so natural I know) that will feed a gravel and plant based waterfall to the pond, but I have been raking my brain on how to deliver the water back to the pond, and I just love this trough design as the final delivery to the pond, lots of planting opportunities to give the water a good clean before its return, so thank you mate for making and sharing this video.

Your welcome their are many ways to filter a pond but I don't think easy pods are the way to go as you need a shower to support them. I'm not a fan of bog filters either. I took the idea from a aquascape video on a smaller scale. Its easy to move water around with pumps. Just make sure your pump is lower than your water level. I recommend you use an external pump but invest in a good pump dont cheap out like i did. Bottom drains are best but they mean alot of work. Also consider a pressure filter its an idea i am thinking about with you can run before your bog filter. As it will force water to your bog filter and allows easy cleaning of sponges cleaning sponges by hand is a pain in the butt.

@@yorkshirekoi2246 Got my inspiration from Kev of Ozponds, he’s a big lover of real natural filtration and making your pond live with little if no maintenance.
I have a half whisky barrel pond at the moment with a bog filter made from a plastic storage box, a simple 600 lph pump, a few plants and two gold fish, the water quality is crystal clear, minimal blanket weed as the fish eat this because I only feed them once a week.
The wheelie bin will have a drain off valve at the bottom and should only need draining once a year, the rest will be filled with rocks, pebbles, 20mm gravel then topped off with 10mm gravel, the waterfall will be 20 and 10mm gravel and plants, the trough will be the final substation filter to the pond.
I have a Blagdon Amphibious IQ 2250-4500 pump so can set the flow rate accordingly, want a slow fill rate on the filter and waterfall to maximise the filtration.
A dual air pump will ensure good oxygenation plus a floating skimmer will help reduce leaf and other organics decaying in the pond.
The pond itself will have rocks and gravel to help the growth of beneficial bacteria and also to give the fish hiding places when they need it.
Sometimes simple is better, sometimes not, but it’s certainly cheaper.

Looks great! Bog/wetland filters are addictive. You may upgrade in a not too distant future?

Hi I clean the sponges out between once a week or sometimes every 2 weeks. I may empty the filter once every month I some times hose down the top as I tend to get a little algae living on the top a slight blast with hose on low power on the gravel removes it and it flows out via the ball valve installed. Basically gravity does the rest. I do get a build up of muck in the sponge area best thing to do is use a small pump while emptying the filter to remove as much muck as possible but in general is no much work. I then blast the sponge with hose through chlorine filter on the hose.

You know, DaVinci Resolve is free, and has stuff for audio. I was watching your build to the sounds of soft guitar then all the sudden, "THANKS FOR WATCHING - SUBSCRIBE TO THE CHANNEL -! ! !" What if I was nodding off into a slumber? Don't you care about people rest? Audio level controls are easy. I know your busy, but just five minutes and the world is just a little more peaceful. Anyway, when you fix your audio I might subscribe. Just kidding, I won't. But fix your audio. You do want to get a wife one day, right? Well, you'll need to impress her and this is not going to do that. Trains could use this audio to warn people when they are approaching an intersection.
