    It’s tough to engage a crowd like that when most are all drinking/socializing for the first 2 hrs or so but sometimes you just gotta let things flow and eventually it will work out in your favor.

    You rock bro!!!! I'm brand new to this ,a close friend knew I wanted to jam the sport so I got complete set up. Stanton tables,909 battle mixer, djm 300, 1500 power amp,stands for speakers, case that turns into set up for tables and mixer. This last 1.5 I been single from a 15 year marriage and started living it up. I'm definitely doing this bug already and will be up on youtube and other sites promoting my business in the entertainment and horticulture world. Thank goodness I found you.

    Lots of Pro Tips - Thanks for each and every one of them. When I play The Wobble, I back it up with Da Butt; crowd seems to love that mix. As for the "older" crowd, do not confuse their age with their music preference. I do many "mature" events and while I will not play High School Prom music, I will not just play 50's-80's; they do like current music, too! But, yes, throw backs done correctly gets them energized and mixed current music in just raises the bar. Love your vids - keep 'em coming!

    I am enjoying your videos, it's like being there to see a modern DJ in action. I was a dj in the 80s and 90s and just wanted to chime in on the always play requests policy. In general yes, of course you want to play requests. Obviously there may also be exceptions to the rule. After experiencing more requests than available time you start to think things through - and no I'm not talking about a night so dead everyone was requesting instead of dancing - in my old days kids simply got a thrill out of getting their request played. Yes you are there to serve and entertain - the entire crowd, not just the most vocal requestors. Ultimately you need to play what is best for the whole, and that is always a judgement call. I remember one night I had over 200 college aged kids on the dance floor, and one young woman begging me to play her song, not letting up while the song was ending and I was in the middle of a mix. It was toward the end of the night, I was short on time and had plenty of hits left. She stopped her plea mid sentence letting out a scream and jumping when she heard the song I had just started - and ran to the dance floor. It was not her request, but it was the right song for the crowd, including her.

    I have a little something but its a real rare side job for me... At any venue i run a whole front speaker set up, 8 CV 18 inch subwoofers, with 2 PV 215s for each sub so 16 of those, 4 EV sub and pole set ups on each corner of the dance floor, with 20ft heavy duty racks full of lights on the botton side and 20ft worth of screens on the top side... Got an hp with a pioneer control and a JBL mixer and 8 crown amps... Dont know nothing about anything, i just know how to use them, i dont fix sh*t, i replace it by the part if i have to, all this was passed on, including the box truck... The only thing i bought was a behringer voice processor and a rega 3 turntable... I do indoor events about once every 2 months $5 to $10 entrance the most people that the venue held one time was 2,500+, i get 82% of that, and then any private party which i do specific dates once every 3 months is $1200 an hour ive done up to 7 hours tops!... Iam not famous at all by any means, i just provide the people with an original "sonidero cumbia" experience which most djs cant or dont do, because they're into variety and iam into bringing a piece of Mexico City to your footstep...it gets deep to the point all tables have to be folded and iam getting greetings request from up to 4 social medias and the people that walk up, and that's why i have a voice processor to provide the original experience... I dont have social media iam only hired through producers and they do the social media posts... But how i tell you Iam not famous, this isn't at all my mainstream income, and iam honestly close minded about the future of it, but i wont let this equipment rot in place.... Tbh in technicalogy iam not a dj i just play good ass music and decorate it with me sending greetings through my processor all night and everyone is lit....

    Aww man after I saw this video I should have filmed myself setting up on July 20th. I have a much different approach to setting up my gear due to the difference in the events that I set up for. The even that just passed for me was a 2 stage event inside a warehouse with multiple DJs switching in and out the entire night. So ended up with 4 subs and 4 main with a DJM900nxs/4CDJ2000nxs for each stage.

    Hello I have a question about speaker height in a small party. Let's say it is only a family's gathering of 10 to 25 people tops in small backyard party. Do you actually need to set the speakers at 7 to 9 feet in height , knowing that there is no audience way in the back and all guess are just withing 10 to 15 feets of the music . Can I lower the height so I don't have to increase so much amp power on the speakers or what is the best option in this scenario

    Would love to hear your transitions between songs on your next logs the ones that were on this video weren’t the best. Also think you should of put washes on the inner side /opposite side of speaker so it hits center of dance floor, looked a little dark in the center this time.

    • @DJRickWeb
      @DJRickWeb  5 років тому +2

      I ended up turning the washes to the sky cus they were too bright which created the darker spot

    XLR to 3.5m jack can be really dangerous, If phantom power is running (not sure if DJ desk have it, im more live sound) it can send 48V through the headphone jack which can easily damage your device, i recommend always trying to use RCA or jack ports for 3.5 when possible.

    Thank you so much for all the tips and your videos. As a new guy starting out they've been lots of help. Why did you go active vs passive route?

    • @DJRickWeb
      @DJRickWeb  4 роки тому +1

      Easier. Same if not better reliability. Less stuff etc

    • @ajspellmonthat1djguy622
      @ajspellmonthat1djguy622 4 роки тому +2

      I've heard otherwise from a sound engineer. He says they are more fragile. One thing in them goes and they are toast you have to send them back and forth and wait and wait just to get fixed. Passive are more durable the tweeter, cone or driver goes bad you can quickly swap yourself. You could always have a back up amp in your rack and switch that over if need be and keep on playing. Active speaker goes you're down a speaker unless you brought a backup. Idk that's some of what I been told. I've gone passive now but it is more complicated with wiring and with components for sure. Thanks for the reply just trying to weigh the pros and cons.

    • @djdale262
      @djdale262 4 роки тому +2

      @@ajspellmonthat1djguy622 Professional DJ for 31 years in the field. Making my living off it for 15, as well as doing live sound for all sizes and types of venues. On paper your friend is correct, save for the weight and set up complexities that you have discovered. Real world today is different. Powered speakers from reputable manufacturers are nearly as bulletproof reliable as passive. They can match performance in most every situation, assuming you buy the right tool for the job, which is all they really are. You don't need double 15" tops setting on 18" subs to DJ a 100 person party in a small hall, and buying and transporting them to shows would be stupid. I also wouldn't take my powered EV ZLX12P's and my 12" sub to do a large scale outdoor event. Wrong tools for the job. Powered are lighter, easier to set up, and generally the same or cheaper than passive, but they do have some shortcomings of their own. You can't abuse them like a passive, but they hold up on the road if you protect your investment. I carry that EV set up in my car 24/7 in Pennsylvania. Bitter winter and blazing summer, it sits in my car as my everyday rig. I have used (and occasionally somewhat abused) it 4-6 days a week for 6 years, small bar karaoke to large weddings, indoors and out. I have had no failures whatsoever except a dead XLR input due to someone yanking the cable during a bar fight. They have been bulletproof. 34lbs, $399, yeah, I'm not throwing my 70lb Yamaha 15" clubs up on the sticks unless I have to, and that is becoming rare. Think about what and where you play, figure out realistically what tool is needed for the job, and then find it from a GOOD manufacturer. Do this intelligently and I assure you, you won't go back. In 31 years I've never field changed a cone or tweeter. That's why you carry a backup speaker. You're being paid so they expect you to be professional. Carry a backup. I love old school, but I've lived it. I don't carry crates of vinyl anymore, and I won't bother with passive unless the job requires it, and few do. Knowledge from a sound engineers viewpoint is certainly beneficial, but perhaps not as much as as from a working DJ with experience. Find some in your area and try to connect. What I do and use running sound in my church is very different from what I do in the field every day for work. You need to pickup some of that understanding from experienced DJ's. It's too expensive to learn the hard way! Packed floors and bouncin butts, young buck!

      this happens a lot, what I tend to do is keep the music low and pretty vague (just popular enough to build trust) till 2/3 hours before the end of the event.
      During those first hours I just have fun mixing and mixing.
      For tough crowds I tend to scrub through 3 genre's I think they'll like and play some bangers from that genre. When they react, I adapt and try to nudge them towards pop music (since they can sing along to charts' songs the best) If it doesn't work, I play safe tracks to gain even more trust and when you do get them to trust you, you can almost spin anything and the'll have a great time

      Everything we do as DJ's resides in memory or storage. Make them fast and the rest of the pc doesn't matter. Best rules to follow...1. Keep it a dedicated DJ only laptop. Doesn't connect to the internet and doesn't have additional software installed.
      2. Put as much memory in it as it can take (up to 32Gb - beyond that you're wasting money). Memory is the biggest factor in for our software.
      3. SSD boot drive and SSD storage. Having an SSD boot drive let's you get up and running faster, handles memory intensive programs better, and when used for storage, manages tons of small files (like thousands of DJ tracks) better and faster than a standard hard drive.
      All we really need is a good bit of memory and a fast hard drive. After that, any decent name brand laptop over $500 that has the connections you need will probably suffice. Obviously start by seeing the requirements for the software and start from there. You'll find they're usually not much, and can be found in most off the shelf pc's. Memory and the SSD storage drive can be added yourself or locally for cheap, and you can usually get away with a basic model with some upgrades and under $700. Don't forget to get rid of all the unnecessary bloatware and put the settings to appropriate places. For dj'ing or running lighting software we really don't need a lot of horsepower, just memory and storage. If your uses are more than dj'ing then you can consider your needs from there, but for our purposes, a little can go a long way.
