I wasn’t a fan of the moon mechanic, but I’m less of a fan of this new mechanic. Why haven’t they told us how squigs benefit from the moon? The benefits to trolls is nerfed. Other armies get there special rules in play for the whole game…why do we have to make such an effort to get our own? The mechanic isn’t fair and they needed to walk away from it. So, I’m disappointed with the lack of effort from GW. When you have to give the army an unlimited spell just to make the special rules work for them, then there is clearly a problem.
Hi Dave! And thanks for the input! I do agree with you in some ways. There are a few armies that has to adapt and also plan accordingly around their special rules. Deepkin is a good example that makes you want to plan accordingly. Although, I do think it was better last time and I’m also curious about the squigs, it’s in one of the “quarters” of the wheel so there has to be something coming up One good thing is that you don’t have to deal with the quarters and more. But know you have to deal with the different moon states instead and keep track of the effects. I would guess or Loonshrine will be the same as the Malevolent Moon “all states wholly within 12” I do agree with you that it didn’t feel completely thought through. Feels kind of boring casting spells to change the state of the moon and also pretty random. Skragrott as I said almost an auto include for me playing rockguts, and that’s also a bit sad cause you really need him with the moons new mechanics. +5 control and the Gitmobs charge and shoot even if they retreated doesn’t feel like super strong at the moment. So you can probably play without the moon mechanics… but, I’m afraid that pulls me back to the rockguts build again and I really, really want this army to have more options. Again, thanks for the comment and I get the disappointment 🥲
@ I have mostly squigs and rockguts because I like the models. I think the new gitmob look amazing, but I’m not sure they will look right next to my mushroom infested army. To me, I’d like to see a mechanic that can work for both people that stick to a certain build, but also someone that mixes and matches. This to me feels like we are being made to have mixed armies. The deepkin mechanic isn’t as bad as ours. You get different benefits at different stages of the game, and those benefits are very well thought out, so they are likely to be useful at those stages in the game. It’s similar to how dark Eldar power from pain used to work.
@@davehudson4144I do to, would love to play even more Gitz and I think in the current state you could make some pretty good lists just with squigs as well, but it’s a bit more difficult. I agree with you but I also have a hard time to figure out what it will be like since I haven’t seen the battletome just yet. It could be, but I think that since you can mitigate the state of the moon there will be options for different builds, and event focused builds and still benefit from the moon. I just think it’s sad that some effects aren’t that strong. Well, the deepkin ones are really good, but it forces you to play along with them. It still gives flexibility to the lists (although they don’t have that many units to choose from) but it kind of forces you to play in a specific way each round to maximize the effects of it. To me, I think the most disappointing part is that the spiders are so bad (I never felt the urge to play them but still… a lot of players hope for some good spider rules) Personally I enjoy squigs and trolls the most so I will probably not be that disappointed. And if so, I still have a bunch of other armies to play instead 😂
