Talk about a beautiful beautiful campus with the palm trees everywhere and the giant lush green mountains in the immediate background. The campus is almost built on the foothills. So it's nice. As the story goes many of the African freedom fighters in Southern Africa passed through this university despite being the only university in Zambia. Zambians were able to share with their neighbors who were exiled in Zambia.

Glad you got up with MD90. Sadly, UNZA has been neglected & the lawns & facilities are no longer like they used to be. Those Goma lakes used to be very nice than they’re now. Am sure the new government is doing its best to bring it back to its former glory. Hope they’ll also take you to a new young private school called University of Lusaka in offshoot Lusaka area called Chongwe which is putting UNZA to shame in terms of maintenance of uni facilities & surroundings.

Thank you for the observation. The state of Goma lakes in this video is shocking. In my days at Unza, the Goma lakes were very beautiful. People came to take wedding photos there. I have very beautiful memories of this dying historical lake.

Interesting. I just stumbled on this and decided to check it out, being a recent UNZA alum. The Goma lakes were named after Professor Goma, an academician at UNZA way back. All I know is that they had to make the lakes for some research he was doing. Both being man made

SAs can never help but compare everything with other African countries to say they are better, UN should vist SA universities and I am 100% sure SA has some of the best universities in Africa but why take away the little shine from University of Zambia, the university that provided intellectual home to many black SA students during apartheid when the whitwatersrand and Stellenbosch universities of this world could not admit black students SA stdents.

We call that statue at the graduation square "Mr Unza" 😂😂 there is a common belief that if you touch him or take a Picture with him when you are still a student you don't graduate 😂 It's a university cultural tradition to take a Picture with him and only touch the statue when you graduate.

MD90 you are a student and hence you should have given that task to UNZA public relations. A tour guide need to be conversant to the point. Your explanation was mostly hesitant and below par. Learn to surrender such international conversations to the employees of the institution for visitors to go with a clear picture of what they have seen. In other intuitions it could have been an offence. Protocal matters.

The land upon which the University is built was initially a marsh (swamp). The lakes were created to drain the surface and underground water.
