I thought that the first two rounds of the fight were good. Silva showed extreme talent, but by round 3 he lost his speed and power from excess movement spent on dodging and clowning around resulting in a five round run around the octagon. I'm just saddened because Silva had great style and amazing striking for the start of the fight...then he just let it go.
i saw the fight and the problem was the guy he was fighting wasnt on his level, i can imagine the guys purse as well being a complete JOKE, its whites fault for making a awful opponent for silva imo mayweather has had fights where he has completely outclassed his opponent and he has sold like over a million ppv buys doing it, i say again, the problem was the opponent
Machinist That's a ridiculous statement. Demian Maia may have been the underdog, but nobody can say 'he wasn't on his (Silva's) level'. Maia is incredibly skilled and if you noticed even Silva was afraid to go to the ground since he wouldn't play with him when he was on his back. All it would have taken is Maia to get his hands on Silva just one time while they were on the ground and still dry for the outcome to have been different. Many would say Chris Weidman wasn't on Silva's level too and all it took was one punch to the face while Silva's was doing his head bobbing nonsense to make Weidman the champ. The environment was also in Silva's favor. It was outdoors and extremely humid and didn't take very long for them to be soaked and slippery in sweat, which is extremely detrimental to an expert submission fighter like Maia. If fighters only fought other fighters that were considered to be 'on the same level' then there would be no such thing as an underdog and we wouldn't never get to see awesome upsets like GSP vs Serra
Lmao mayweather got to 50-0 by fighting people that were just starting or were nobodies. Dont forget he also got a fake knockout against the Big Show on WWE

Anderson Silva defending his title sixth consecutive times and being undefeated in the UFC is just an amazing feat whether you like it or not. If Anderson Silva is able to fuck around the whole 5 rounds against one of the best Damian Maia, it shows you how scary Silva is and that he is on completely different level. Personally, I see no one even being close to beating Silva at middleweight.
Dana is more about the business than the art form and the skill of the fighters. Many Professional fighters throughout history showboated. If you watch some of the best boxers of all time, they would show boat and taunt their opponents. Watch Sugar ray Leonard fights, Muhammed Ali in the ring, and many others. At one time or another almost every fighter show boated or taunted their opponent, in or out of the ring, it can be a strategy and also good entertainment. It was working for him. HE WON!
@sinhaserpente: Also, he got his belt ("He" as in Silva) when he was just 18 years old. Also, he has a black belt in: Tae Kwon Do, Judo, and BJJ. He also has a yellow belt in Capoeira. Although I didn't really need to tell you that.

@residualrevenge I dont think you understand. Silva felt disrespected and felt like he should humiliate this guy and he did. Maya did nat land a single puch and left with a busted face. I assure you that Silva would never this to GSP, because he respects GSP because GSP respects fighters..it also seem s that Silva is bored of the opponents they are putting him with
Undeniably it was helluva show but only until the mid of 3rd round. I don't know what happened to the respectful guy that faced Franklin twice. I would guess that his behavior is due to some unspoken of frictions with Dana and maybe Silvas wishes of whom to fight.
My personal opinion, Silva was leagues ahead of everyone at his prime. To go into a championshionship fight, being underpaid, and having no challenge at all from your opponent, who is supposed to be among the best, is a complete insult to his skill and career. Multiple fighters have had issues with Dana White under paying, not getting them the contracted x number of fights a year, and even manipulating their careers in such a way that they dont get the fights they want, they get low payinf fights, or no fights at all, simply to do what dana white wants for money, is wrong. Example, Silva, Diaz, and even Mcgregor. Silve proved a point with this fight and struck at Dana where it hurts
I will never understand why Dana got so mad with this fight. Anderson won fair and square amd gave Damian a nice beating in at least the first 3 rounds. Damian's game was all about bringin Anderson down, when he saw he couldn'y do it he just laid in the floor hoping Anderson would fell into the trap- that's the only ridiculous part of this fight. Anderson tauting him is just showmanship. Damian waked up only the fifth round and really try to go all in so he deserve some recogntion for that.
Dana and all Anderson haters are wrong.Anderson utterly nuetralized Damian with footwork, striking, and takedown defense. Anderson was aggressive and goaded Damian into fighting, which Damian refused to do. In boxing, boxers are FORCED to fight or they lose their purses. Not so in MMA. Anderson took Cote's,Leites',and Maia's hearts with his superlative skill.Like Liddell said when Silva fought Leites: Silva did all that he could do vs a guy whose only hope was to turn a MMA bout into a bjj match.
1 - Anderson Silva, just apologize in the end of the fight because he realized the crownd was booing. 2 - While he was punishing Maia in the frist, second and third round, the same crowd was in his side. 3 - He is the champion and he wants to keep the belt for a long time, so why he have to expose himself, if he knows he already won the fight? 4 - Probably Dana is disappointed because he have lost some money betting in a Anderson KO.
what Anderson did was completely unproffesional. I think he got his punishment in terms of fans booing and not recieving the belt in the way he should. We all make mmistakes. He learnt his lesson and aplogized after the game. Just let it go Dana.
I was so dissapointed to see Silva fight the way he did and he truly was a disgrace to the MMA community. As Dana said, this was the third time it happened, ever since the Leites fight, he took that clowning to a whole new level. He did the same shit with Griffin, and even though made him look silly, it was still no excuse to disrespect the sport and make it look like a circus act.
I'd like to watch Silva vs Belfort push through first before we go to GSP-Silva. Silva was being cocky/disrespectful but he didn't finish off Maia. I think it was weird..like he's suddenly mentally not in the game.
Anderson Silva showboating? Noooo lol. He doesn't show boat to play around, he show boats to get inside his opponents head. You know how fighting is 90% mental? Think about taking the mental away and guess what? You have 10% of a fighter that doesn't have his mind in the right place, he who gets anxious and angry will lose a fight every time. However, not to contradict myself but that is not what he did in that fight. He got carried away and got knocked out.
Ppl miss the point of Silva. Yes he's a lil cocky and yes he could probably end fools quick. But to be throwing knees and kicks every sec isn't his style. He waits and waits for that one unguarded moment and knocks you out. And he's the champ, he doesn't need to beat them. They need to beat him. Remember that
Anderson Silva is the greatest fighter alive. When he is forced to fight people who do not pose a threat to him, he's going to do what he did Saturday. Yes, Anderson should've finished the fight...but he did what he was supposed to...and that's win. I think he may have been a little tired middle 3rd and all of 4th and 5th, and just decided to coast. Put him up against GSP at 170 and I guarantee he won't do what he did at 112 again. Anderson Silva is the greatest fighter alive.
@SeanSean128 Agree, pit him against GSP and make it worth watching Silva... this last "performance" wasn't a fight. Partly, I think, because both fighters were not interested in the action, and Silva was trying to avoid an injury, for future potential fights.
Dana white never escapes an opportunity to make an issue about him. Personally, who gives a shit if Dana was embarrassed??? Once again the UFC put an apponent in front of Anderson Silva that they knew would not stand with him and expected the fight of the year. Did they honestly not learn anything from Silva vs Thales Leites?
Dana is a control freak. Anderson needs to be a free agent; fighting whomever challenges him. MMA needs to become promoted like boxing. Having these organizations that own fighters for years needs to end. That will make the sport evolve REAL QUICK.
Although i don't agree with what Silva was doing during the fight, i found it quite funny. Demian Maia did nothing at all during this whole entire fight except for getting his face busted open. Giving Maia this title fight was dumb and Silva knew it and thats why he played games with him.
Anderson Silva is no doubt the best pound for pound fighter in the UFC. Yes, he made Demian Maia look like a fool, but you can only do that for so long. Dana is right, if he's as talented as he is (which he's proved many times in the past), why not go out there and finish his opponent while showcasing the best of his abilities?
@crazykorean2268 Yeah Idk what was up with Silva in this one. Hes so respecful and humble and this fight his ego was sky rocketed. I hope he goes back to normal and gives the fans some type of apology for his actions.
id still like to see him fight gsp. Silva vs gsp would probably be one of the biggest pay per views ever. You have gsp one of the pound for pound best in the sport (the good guy) and Silva another pound for pound best guy (the bad guy). It has the makings of another Foreman Ali rumble in the jungle.
One of the selling points of MMA is the respect and honor that the fighters give each other. I was once an Anderson Silva fan, obviously I am not anymore. This type of lazy fighting is getting old and becoming a trend from Silva. I hope he does not turn MMA into a professional wrestling type venue. Hell, Brock Lesnar is levels above Silva anymore on the pure warrior aspect. At least he comes to fight. (Never thought I would say that).
I dont think dana ever liked silva. Liked him for business but anderson had a similar outlook as Francis. Look how his retirement went. Basically a F you to silva. Which is why anderson dudnt show up to his hall of fame induction. His final F you to ufc. Anderson was better than gsp but gsp was more marketable being in north america and being able to speak english and french. Dana didnt want that fight for George. Had nothing to do with that fight. Silva didnt want to beat maia. He wanted to embarrass and disrespect him because he said maia was disrespectful. That was for how they're viewed in brazil. That was personal for anderson.
Pfff thats what you get for making that terrible match up. Why would silva put himself in harms way just to put on a good show. Maia wants the belt then he has to take it. Silva fought smart
The sad part is Silva ( besides gsp ) is the "p4p" fighter i thought not to be overrated until this.. he has talent but immaturity for days, he's 34 acting like that ridiculous...
Anderson doesn't deserve to fight GSP. GSP is such a classy guy, such a great fighter, and while Anderson probably would beat him, you have to earn the right to fight a guy like GSP, and Anderson has pushed himself OUT of that position with the stupid stuff that he's done. It's not just the fight with Maia, he's done this shit before. And if he's bored, then give him a real challenge, give him Brock in a catch-weight fight. That'll wake his ass up.
Like Dana White didn't see this coming lol. I knew Maia didn't stand a chance against Silva. What does it tell you when Silva is fighting Maia with his hands down the whole fight? I really don't even think Silva needed to train to fight Maia. Silva only fights seriously when you put a serious threat in front of him. Dana is just as responsible for not putting on guys that can challenge Silva.
@sinhaserpente: And what does having a black belt in BJJ have to do with being taken down? If he takes him down, so what? That doesn't mean he automatically wins. It didn't help Dan Henderson, did it? And, to be honest, I don't know who is going to win.
Man, screw all the haters against Silva... He's the most talented fighter in the WORLD! Look at Roy Jones, Mayweather and even Ali! Ali taunted his opponents so much in the ring. He use to swear at them, degrade them and call them out on there weak points. Everyone needs to stop being haters, Silva did what he had to do. If he can do that shit, why not do it! Goddamn be glad we have a fighter in this generation like him cause the last one was Bruce fuckin Lee. And he was even cocky!! Haters...
Only embarrassment to me are the people who ridicules athletes when they don't perform to "their" expectation... First off if you never been in the ring you don't rate to say shyt... And if you have you know and understand that athletes have "off" moments were they don't perform as expected. Could be a injury, emotional stress, ect.. He fought, he won, and apologized for not performing at his normal level.
Dana White is an embarrassment to the UFC. Didnt he call Randy Coutour gay in an interview once? Anderson Silva shouldnt have to humble himself to face an opponent that isnt even close to being in his league. Silva kept me entertained through that fight.
unfortunately, it's getting harder and harder to find anyone capable of bringing Anderson Silva a fight. I can understand people being mad at Silva, but, there's a lot more happening here. He tried to get Demian Maia to fight him. To engage. He did not. Silva must have been insulted to even have to defend his belt against him. Also, it makes you feel bad when you outclass someone so much. You almost don't want to break them.
thats why i cant wait for july 7th. Sonnen is the only person in the UFC not afraid to fight him and actually go at him. and i hope Sonnen pounds him like he did in the first fight.
if dana doesnt want silva to showboat, maybe he needs to put someone in there who he will take seriously, someone who actually has the capability to beat him...
for once i agree with dana white

Example, Silva, Diaz, and even Mcgregor. Silve proved a point with this fight and struck at Dana where it hurts
What was silva suppose to do? He was begging maia to engage in throwing punches and all maia did was lay down and look stupid.
Oh Sdfu
"Any Questions?! Or can I go home?!"
Well we saw how that worked against Weidman.
He got carried away and got knocked out.
ok expert
And then he loses because of that
Silva is a moron
Gonne leave this comment to remind everyone of how much a bad ass Anderson Silva was! 👌
I can't think of a better President /representative of a company than Dana White.
i think we all learned a lesson from this one don't talk shit to somone you can't beat
Remember that
Wow just comes to show that the fighters run this show!
3:25 Dana regret these words forreevaah
José Genuino why would he?
UFC does not desrve Anderson Silva. Showboating is part of the game. Dana you are fired.
Give him GSP - simple.
Stop giving him sparring partners - give him a fighter that can perform at his level
id still like to see him fight gsp.
I hope Silva still fights GSP and GSP whips that butt!
Yeah, give Silva some real competition like GSP and maybe he won't get in there and fight like a "jackass".
It's not a black and white thing. It's a respect for the sport thing. It's not boxing, that's why people actually watch it.
Anderson Silva and MVP must hail from the same annoying, obnoxious school of fighting. Can't stand either one of em.
I think he sounds like Dana White
Haters...
Crazy how everyone show boats now… and throw call kicks uncle Dana
look at dana seeming all human like with a heart anderson silva is probably the first man to take on dana white who is currently winning
Silva is the best. Bring on fedor.
Good thing you're not the president of the UFC
There's no way this is a real take. 🤣🤣🤣 Wow
GSP > Silva. I will respect Silva if he puts sick performaces again like the Dan Henderson fight, James Irvin fight, Travis Lutter fight...
Anderson fights like this because there's no one good enough. GSP will challenge him. Not win, but challenge
I keep hoping one of the UFC fighters catches Dana White in the parking lot and beat the s*** out of him.
I can wish can't I? :)
12 years had pass and we still don't know why Silva fought that way
thats why i cant wait for july 7th. Sonnen is the only person in the UFC not afraid to fight him and actually go at him. and i hope Sonnen pounds him like he did in the first fight.
Fuck it, he says that but his pockets are full of money because of Silva fights.
if dana doesnt want silva to showboat, maybe he needs to put someone in there who he will take seriously, someone who actually has the capability to beat him...
