Excellent content. I like Rebecca's style. She asks intelligent and interesting questions. She never interrupts. Really good to hear the story of the process of these guitars from the man himself. Brilliant video from these two. It's made me want a Steelcaster.
I'm the very proud and happy owner of one of the early Steel DeVille (Telecaster shaped) models he made when he was in Paris : that wonderful guitar is still in perfect condition after 23 yrs of daily intensive use (at home and on stage). The only mod I made on it was a PUs change (from the original Joe Barden Humbuckers to Lindy Fralin Tele style single coil PUs) because it was way too hard on stage to switch from my other guitar ('52 Tele) to the Trussard (because of the sound level difference). That guitar is a real treat when tuned in open E to play blues or country songs ! (Maxon analog delay pedal + Voodo Lab Overdrive + Twin Reverb amp) James always treated me very kindly in his small Pigalle shop, though I'm no rock star like the ones he's dealing with now. He is an outstanding luthier with a very rare taste
James has been a Luthier since I've known him in France in the early 70th. He made dulcimer then and tinker with violin as well. He is an artisan that has loved music and produce custom product with passion and love. James has always been more interested in doing fun stuff that anything else. In the 40 years that I have known him, I can say that he has remained genuine toward his goals, producing great products and having fun. As far as his accent, do not ask he doesn't have a typical French accent as most French do. Do not even go there... I do not know if this is a Louisiana twang or what however; it is James and only James has it, just like his guitars his accent is custom made.
These Trussart guitars really remind me of the Zemaitis guitars, I wonder if there's a connection there... or maybe Trussart got this idea from Zemaitis.
+aDotFromTheFuture No direct connection to Zemaitas as far as I know, but the inspiration is obvious. Those new Zemaitais from China are pretty good too! Expensive for a Chinese guitar though. Or maybe it's Japan...
Trussart is def my fav modern Luthier and my dream guitar is def a pure custom from his shop! All of the guitars def have that Delta Blues feel to them! Awesome stuff!
rohadt Anyad I think he's doing great for a French guy. I've been to France quite a lot, and they just don't come into contact with the English language that often. So give this guy a break, you can understand him and if he sounds funny, you probably would trying to speak french. Btw I'm from the Netherlands, where most people understand, and speak at least 2 foreign languages.
Hey buddy, I'm french and like a lot of people here I watch every movie and tv series with the original soundtrack (tv and movie theaters offer the choice). So yes, I understand every dialogue, and I can tell an american accent from an english one, but that doesn't make me speak english (or write it for that matter) flawlessly. Even living in a foreign country doesn't make you speak without an accent. I'd love to hear you speak french after seeing a french movie. I bet it will be perfect!
original song I think, his name is Joel Newman, he is a great musician, I see him all the time at James's and you will hear about him I am sure sooner or later...
My personal fave is the oxidized copper, with the blues and greens in the finish on a Tele base. Unfortunately a $5k guitar is never going to happen for me.
Love the guys feel who plays one of the guitars near the end of the video 23:55, very "Keef" style to me, Very Nicely done, The "Folky" sounding guy at the very end is a nice example of a Delta blues /Folk mix and is a very talented individual as well Cool vid.!
Please mr Trussart, could you send me a superstrat antique model version with floyd rose on it, and i can promise you to do some videos, just to make your instrument, which is pretty cool and sounded nice to my ear, sing like a bird.
I did an A/B test one night against a Trussart and two R9's. One of the R9's turned out to be fake and the Trussart and the real R9 sounded almost identical, and the fake one stood out as a piece of shit. We couldn't figure it out until a few months later when Gibson told us that the serial # on the bad sounding one wasn't real. I was shocked to find how like the R9 a guitar made of metal could sound.
uuh come on..... you got to see Rebecca man and you were suprised by the way she talks about guitars and amps and pedalls and other guitar stuff, like finishes and trussrod ajustment, got carried away there Must be a cool place to work, making those rusty nasty guitars great steel tone
Check out Electrical Guitar Company instead. Kevin can build you a custom aluminium instrument to your exact specifications for half the price of these instruments, and they sound better. Wood bodies, acrylic bodies, aluminium bodies, different scale lengths, bass or guitar, pickups, electronics, strap location, inlays, all up to you.
I just can't adjust my ears to find that shrilly and ice picky racket coming out of those guitars. I adore how they look. I even feel like there priced decently. But if it doesn't sound that great,.....then all that doesn't matter. And they shouldn't put single coils or P90s in them. I'd even try some low output Bartollini pups. Just to offset that shrilly jangly tone. Just my opinion.

Great show! Hope Premier Guitar keeps doing these kinds of luthier shows, very interesting and a nice change of pace from interviewing guitarists.

Super James. Dommage que Premier Guitar n'aie pas activé les sous titres pour un Normand ?
merci beaucoup James.
ca fait plaisir de te revoir après 30 ans environ.
Great show!!

True works of art, to say the least! Love at first sight!
Thank god we still have creative artists that can take their dreams and bring them to life for us mere mortals.
TheRumRunner
The song in the end was the best part! nice voice and guitar tone
nice sounding resonator there. I once had a couple of early Trussarts, wish I still had them,
Another great video from Premier Guitar. Thanks :)

Hope to own one soon.
Do you think they could get the sound a little further out of phase with the video? It's only about eight seconds off.
Which would go higher these or Gibson’s on the secondary market?

What's that song at the end?
What a voice at the end ... o.O Amazing!
do they make their own pickups?🎸🎸🎸
Thank you very much!
Nice tour. I'm interested in purchasing one of these. Does anyone posting here actually own one of these? How does it play and sound?
I love these guitars ! Some day I´ll own a Custom Steelmaster...
Very interesting stuff! Are some of those guitars hollow? btw, the guy playing the baritone... that was a joke right?
original song I think, his name is Joel Newman, he is a great musician, I see him all the time at James's and you will hear about him I am sure sooner or later...
Lovely voice at the end....who is he?

My personal fave is the oxidized copper, with the blues and greens in the finish on a Tele base. Unfortunately a $5k guitar is never going to happen for me.

Dude, you are right, Columbus was Italian, sailed from Portugal.
uuh come on..... you got to see Rebecca man and you were suprised by the way she talks about guitars and amps and pedalls and other guitar stuff, like finishes and trussrod ajustment, got carried away there
Must be a cool place to work, making those rusty nasty guitars
great steel tone
it was mostly the guitar. to all those raving about the end song.
So...a custom shop is a shop with some ready made parts, a talking owner and a guitar player?
Check out Electrical Guitar Company instead. Kevin can build you a custom aluminium instrument to your exact specifications for half the price of these instruments, and they sound better. Grow Up - by Joel Taylor
Sounds Scandinavian-Danish, Norwegian something like that
Joel Taylor-Newman
@18:25 -yeah definitely ha!
The least you could do in such a comment is to write it "flawless"
Awesome. James seems like a slightly scruffy, French version of Paul McCartney.
I agree !
WOW ! THAT SOUND ! W.T.F. ALMOST MADE ME WANT TO THROW UP !
These guitars go for around $5,000. Im sure the custom designs are more. I love em, but I'll never own one!
I know :)
French?
12:28
awesome guitars, incredibly expensive though :(
Rebecca Dirks - the ultimate woman, hot, loves guitar and great with a microphone ;)
I think it's a french accent. As a french guy I hear this accent quite often unfortunately...
This is what Mr. Crocodile Dundee would do if he started to make guitars.
rebecca dirks OMG BEST GIRL EVER
24 fret Tele. Aww yiss
His accent sounds like an amalgamation between French, Dutch & Irish?!
