OMG you were looking so beautiful. So smart. was crushing on you that very day. My father gathered all of his children to watch cos we couldn't come to Accra.
Jerry John Rawlings, you came you saw and conquered. You really raised the bar of leadership. Ghana today is in total mess, corruption has taken over the country, but I don't blame anybody but ourselves especially the Akans in Ghana. Rest well Chairman.
I really love this. I never missed Independence celebrations in those good old days. Watching those spectacular display of marching skills by Ghanaians from all walks of life, in harmony with sweet brass band patriotic music, used to be one of my favorite and addicted pastimes. Thanks for sending me down memory lane. Cheers, veteran GBC.
Beautiful and passionate. This is simply so emotional. I don’t know but there is pure authenticity and patriotism in every minute of this beautiful ceremony. I hope we can get Ghana back to this level
these type of videos and more are things we always want to watch ... in fact this generation of Ghanaians are really missing a lot... good job GBC we want more of such on your stations as we turn back to our patriotic paths of paying the Tv license fees
Hmmmm. Independence day celebration has never been the same. A lot has changed. These songs definitely does a lot of magic for me. They command some positive energy I cannot explain. Thank you GBC for bringing this one back.
the excitement i feel right now watching this is unbelievable; the discipline in matching and order and presentation, every school going child sat waiting for this particular match pass. good old days indeed
Very colorful..In those days we get know each school in the capital…all repping their colors..That’s the real Independence Celebration..over 10k students and the man will keep standing to take all the salute..
Respect man J! I salute u always forever favourite ❤ The only honest president of Ghana ever since❤❤❤❤ Continue to rest in peace 😢😢 papa J😢😢😢😢 My heart still bleeds😢😢 Will forever miss u😢😢😢
Oh Papa J May your Soul Rest in Peace. Of a truth you were a very handsome Gentleman l feel so sorry for our mother land the corruption you came to fight is now engulfed this NPP government. I wish we can have the boldness you had at the time in a future leader of our country to deal with corrupt politicians in Ghana
Thank you GTV. You’ve really made my day. You’ve taken me down memory lane. I was told we lost these recordings when fire engulfed the Broadcasting House.
Independence Day celebrations those days with Chairman Rawlings was just awesome! I remember this particular one like yesterday. The parade commander was a teacher instead of the usual military men. Dear GBC, could you please upload all the previous ones here? It's really nostalgic for me. You have really made me miss my childhood...
Hate him or not, the Rawlings’ knew pomp and pageantry. Everyone looked sharp and didn’t come to play. I was a precocious 9 year old then Continue to RIP Papa J
In the late 50s, we were on the verge of building nuclear energy. Today, we are rationing power, and some could have the nerve to ask for a renewal of mandate.
I am in tears we even said then that the quality has faded but its worse now, the standards keep going down year on year.I look forward to a leader who would bring back the good old days.quality.
This was Ghana! Everyone is chanting 'Ghana Oseeee yieeeeee' not displaying placards of free shs, nabco and Ghana beyond aid. The NPP will destroy this nation
They have destroyed it already. Tribalism was a hidden and people felt.shy to exhibit but today it's been displayed in the offices, social media and on national platforms
Remember practices for this events, we were trained by military personals and having a school badge is one of the things that qualify you to take part in the match. 😅
Our mass band of late has modernize things so much that we don't even enjoy the band again ,like what happened at koforidua during the 67 independence day celebration.
Ghana has undergone a significant negative transformation. Once, this was an era cherished by every Ghanaian, marked by strong family values and an exceptionally dedicated youth across all spheres. The young generation exhibited profound patriotism, respect, and diligence, devoid of any inclination towards quick wealth acquisition. We boasted a cohort of intellectually adept young Ghanaians. However, everything crumbled swiftly following the advent of the internet, precipitating rapid and drastic changes in our nation. May God safeguard our beloved Ghana. JJ is my all time best president.
Waaw waaw this real independence celebration. Good sound and beautiful music by the Band. Infact, our mass band of late plays so many unfamiliar patriotic songs.
Hmmm I went to observe this when i was in class 6 before it got to my turn in 1995 jss 1 and matced till 1997 ,shut out to mr Appiah and mr Essel whom they trained us at police depot okaikoi sub district. I remember the yoghurt they give us oo hmmm memories. Now see how old we are now oo.
This is so beautiful 😢 awww look at the uniforms. They are all well dressed and match better. Can u imagine our current independence has been turned into comedy… I saw a couple of videos and I was like what the hell is this How can u be dancing in a parade
Have we lost that patriotic feeling as a country? Because watching this compared to what we have watched in this generation it seems we have lost some vim. What do other people think? The passion, intensity, pride even the student band performing like a matured military band. What we are missing something as a people in this generation
True. I was so disheartened watching this year’s own. It was like they weren’t taking it seriously at all. Look at how smart everyone is looking and carrying themselves - it’s glaring at this point.
Thank you GTV for this video. This confirms how backward we've become as a country when I compare this video to our current 6th March celebration. We need a military rule to straighten us.
JJ Rawlings was indeed a figure who inspired a profound sense of patriotism during his presidency. His leadership evoked a strong commitment to the betterment of the nation. The arc of history, as Martin Luther King Jr. famously said, bends toward justice, and Rawlings' legacy stands as a testament to this belief. Despite the challenges of corruption and political unrest, there is hope that Ghana will one day be liberated from the grip of corrupt officials. Rawlings' memory serves as a beacon of hope, reminding us of the potential for positive change and the enduring spirit of patriotism within the nation.
Everything here is giving me goosebumps! This was done with pure joy and dedication!
Very True....
Until the country became the property of some families
