Major East Blue Villains: Buggy: Living. Legend. Captain Kuro: I really want some kind of update on him after the timeskip, he was pretty cool for the time Don Krieg: I'd rather see Gin again Arlong: When things got real
Krieg is the PERFECT pirate from the perspective of a person transitioning from real world pirates to One Piece pirates in their heads. He's physically strong, smart, treacherous, enterprising, experienced, geared out with the best technology and best defense, and has a massive fleet of loyal crewmen. Then Oda says "screw everything you ever knew about how pirates should work", pulls out Mihawk, and give the true introduction to how crazy the world of One Piece is going to get.
Maybe Krieg was a former Military officer and a truly respectable man in the past, which is why Gin stuck with him. But somewhere down the line he developed a hunger for power.
he definitely has the manpower to do it, it's just that the top three of his crew is very weak and Krieg prioritizes quantity over quality making him at most the lowest ranking or weakest warlord in the series
This guy was one my favorite villains. He doesn’t just use his fists, or a fruit, but his head. Should he have not crossed Mihawk, he could have been a Warlord.
Gin with Haki and maybe even a devil fruit people forget that Pre TS Gin was pretty strong arguably even stronger than Krieg who needed firearms to fight he had no actual combat skill .
I think the most impressive part is that he got through the Calm Belt to escape the Grand Line with only 100 men and their ship completely destroyed more or less. It really does show Krieg and Gin as people who can't be messed with.

And then not even like 10 episodes later we learn about Arlong who just casually picked up all the houses in a village and turned them upside down for shits and giggles. Those were the days when character strength made sense
You are totally underselling the force that is Don Krieg. I still remember that scene in the anime where Don Krieg just walked up to Miihawk and shot him with his gun armor, and Miihawk fled since he knew he couldn't win against the might that is Don Krieg.
I think at that time Krieg was pretty powerfull and durable out of all villains in east blue. He did survive Luffy attacks on and on again. Even if he used gadgets and armors (it was normal human vs superpowers of Luffy). He was still pretty strong. And i think a lot of people forget but even after that flashy finisher (that hammer) Don Krieg didnt stay down for long and was actually finished by Gin (and i think Luffy stayed down after he was rescued from water by Sanji). So yeah. If we would compare in just raw power he was equal to Luffy at east blue which was still at a monster level. Luffy won because of his rubber powers and his willpower... which Don Krieg didnt have many because he and his crew was just defeated by Mihawk and he was reminded of that when Mihawk showed up to finish them of.
Michael D Mingo yeah that's why I said early grandline. That's the furthest he could've gotten. But he wasn't there for very long, so he most likely got the gas from East Blue

Hey Tekking, just an idea, maybe a vid on your favorite One Piece openings? Like in order from least to most liked or even a top 5? I'm curious to see what you think of some of the openings, whether it be about the music or the animation
I THINK the story between Mihawk and Don Krieg is that Mihawk just felt like doing his job as a Shichibukai at that moment. He's supposed to hunt down pirates after all. "Oh hey, a whole bunch of pirates just happened to walk into. Well, time to get to work I guess. Okay, that's done, back to napping with the satisfaction of a job well done" (your reading time of these last sentences is the actual time it took). But then he noticed that some of them escaped, so he set out to finish the job properly
I legit would love to see Don Krieg come back like being employed by Blackbeard or something. Even if he is short lived be funny to see the original strawhats go “oh crap it’s That Loser!!!” and the newer members like Brooke going “.....who?”
Wootz steel was actually Kriegs armor, its a very maluable metal and very highly combustible. But it is a real thing and a very strong metal, props to oda for doing legit research
The shot of Don Krieg in the "We Are" opening is not the only one where he has long hair. In Nami's flashback, in the scene where Nami runs away and visits Genzo in town, there are a few wanted posters. One of them is of Krieg with his hair flowing. My first thoughts were that how he looked when he was younger. We later see the same wanted poster in the Navy HQ when the marines discuss Luffy's achievements and give him his first bounty, and after that we see it hanging in Fullbody's cabin when he gets Luffy's wanted poster. Either the Navy kept Krieg's original wanted poster from 8 years before Luffy set sail, or Krieg cut his hair only recently. Maybe it WAS Mihawk.

I don't think Mihawk was intended to devalue kreig but rather it was meant to be the first taste test of just how big the world of One Piece was. Cause think about it even now when you see people starting to read/watch One Piece most of the time they really don't know just what their in for and by the time you get to Baratie it really does seem like well Luffy and Zoro are clearly the strongest pirates out there even a really skilled pirate captin can't beat them. So Baratie was the first time Oda really went no no this is much bigger than you think it is. Not only in terms of how strong the straw hats need to get but for the scope of One Piece in general.

Gin is one my favorite characters, and i really hope he reappears in the story. This was a great arc, especially for world building. Two of the most badass characters got defeated, but because of their character, their lives are spared when they easily couldve been killed. And its believable and not terrible plot armor. It really set the stage for Zoro and Sanji
Another similarly between Don Kreig and Don Sai is Don Krieg has armor that has a lot of weapons on it while Don Sai has a girl that's attached to him that can turn into all kind of weapons :)
I started reading one piece after watching the anime for a long time and the thing I find funny is that I am reading the ark where don krieg is the villian so good timing
Oda's purpose for Krieg was to demolish all of your expectations of what a good pirate should look like. By '"real life" standards Krieg checked every box for what should make a super successful pirate. After him, we started getting X10 human strength Fishmen like Arlong and more info on devil fruit users like Smoker, and we haven't had a single "normal" pirate group run into the Straw Hats in the story ever since.
Something I noticed, when re-watching the first season. Very early on Luffy says he wanted about 10 crew mates. Now, Blackbeard, who is viewed as reverse Luffy, has the 10 titanic captains. That makes me think it was planned from the very beginning for there to be 10 extra crew for the Stawhats. The only thing I can't figure out is why it's taking so long to get the whole crew.
Thought on Krieg's hair. The image of Krieg we see in the One Piece opening is the same image we see of Krieg in his bounty poster, in Chapter 96. In Nami's Backstory (anime only though,) we see Krieg's bounty poster on a bulletin board. I think that the image of Krieg seen in the opening and the bounty poster are just old images of Krieg, at least 8 years old according to Nami's Backstory. We already know that some people have the same image on their bounty poster for possibly decades or more. Look at Robin, for example, she had the same bounty poster for 20 years before it got updated. It wouldn't be out of the question for Don Krieg to have the same bounty poster for that long.
Don Krieg's porcupine shield was his cape, dude. Also, mustard gas is deadly, but doesn't kill immediately, so MH5 isn't a discount gas. It is still effective, as it does end up killing a few of his crew, doesn't it? I'd like to see him come back in some way, though. Klahadore as well.

@Tekking101 I know I'm a year too late but I found out about Don Kreigs Long hair poster.. So I was rewatching whole OP from the beginning and the episode in which we learn about Nami & Bellemere's backstories we see a slight glimpse of Don Creig's Wanted Poster. So basically it means he used to have longer hair when Nami was just a Kid and Bellemere was alive.

Don Krieg is so similar to Don Sai that I thought this video was about Sai until I saw Krieg and remembered.
Wasn't too long ago you said you wouldn't make a Don Krieg video
You actually did it!!!!!!!! Thank you so much!!!!!!!!
Tekking can probably make an hour long video on Luftys pre-timeskip vest and how it symbolizes compassion
"You Know" Count: 48
The Seimei Kikan technique is the reason for the instant recovery from starvation, though it is an unconscious use of the technique.
Krieg's armor was definitely gold-plated. It was constructed of 'indestructible' Wootz steel, which Krieg bragged about.
I watched the English Dub without 4kids and I love the English “We Are” song so good tho I like the Japanese that comes later but it’s not as good eve tho it’s a remix so I’ll have to check out the original Japanese we are
Don krieg was my favorite east blue villain.
It was one of the most brutal early fights.
Don't care for anime too much but this dude is funny af lol.
me "wonder what Tekking will post about today..."
tekking 0:34
tekking101 the youtuber that gives one piece characters more screen time than they had in the anime XD
Krieg with Seastone weaponry, gadgets and both observation and armament haki.
Basically a brutish One Piece version of Batman mixed with Blackbeard. He deserves to get buffed and brought back alongside Enel. Maybe a new Blackbeard crew member after he trained and got the hakis and improved weaponry?
