Mercedes Benz W124 is the successor of the legendary Mercedes W123 and it is also the car that started E-class. eugenevalkovsky #mercedesw124 #w124history #car
I have just purchased a 2 owner W124 1993 300E - done 99,000 miles. There are a few minor issues to fix, but after 6 previous older Mercedes, I consider this one to be the best of all. My other cars were - 1963 220S Heckflosse, 1966 250S, 1963 220SE Coupe, 1976 W123 250, 1976 450SE, 1987 420SEC, and later a 2007 B Class B200 turbo. This last car had a CVT automatic transmission and was endless trouble, but I wish I still owned all the previous six!! I am now 75 and the 124 will probably be the last car I own - hopefully it will last another 10 years!!
I feel glad that in my lifetime I had 3 W124’s (at different times) my 400E being the most elegant and quick on the highway. Thanks for posting this great tribute to a milestone MBZ
If you really think about the w124 It Was a fabulous car and lasted well for taxi drivers . The world's most clocked car as the interior fabric was built to last I owned one with 336.000 miles And the interior was just like it left the production line so if you see one with a ripped drivers seat I would suggest the car has covered more than 700.000 miles yes very serious the engines if well serviced will cover over 2 million miles all this nonsense 500.000 miles they are only played with at that mileage most people have a mattres or suite over 15 years and these cars are 30yrs old does any one have a big hole in their matress or couch NO So think how much use a w124 has had with a big hole in drivers seat divide the mileage by little use 40 miles per day
When I was in high school, my German-born father finally got his dream-- a 2 year old 1988 260E. He initially bought it mostly because it was cheaper than the new Buick he was looking at, but it took maybe all of a day for it to become his baby. And the whole design of it just kinda blew us away; my Mom was not pleased at Dad's impulse purchase, but I distinctly remember talking with her about 6 months after he bought it. The line from that conversation that's burned intro my memory is :If your father wrecks that thing, I'm going to *make* him buy another one!" Well, for the single impulse purchase I can ever remember Dad making, he did pretty well. I turn 49 in a few weeks.... .. and the car turned 36 in February. It's still my daily driver, and reliable as hell. It still runs beautifully, and I just love it to death. It's honestly spoiled me for any other car. I fully expect it to outlive me at this point.
I just watched your review of the W123 a few days ago. So glad you did one on the 124. I believe the 124 is the greatest sedan ever. It's pioneering design (thx Bruno), timeless elegance, dynamics, unsurpassed engineering just can't be beat. The best of the best was definitely the 500E. The AMG Hammer was / is legendary. I have a W202 C180 and C280, scaled down copies of this legend. Good clean 124s still go for a premium here in ZA 🇿🇦. The S/W was a staple in the upperclass suburbs of Johannesburg, I had a few clients who owned them, 20 years after their production. The coupé, simply beautiful. This car was truly "engineered like no other car in the world". Edit: the W202 is probably the last of this era of Benz where they got it just right.
I owned a W124 250D lang version, it was such a nice car to travel with. Calm and very stable road behavior. Suspension was great, very comfortabele. Biggest downside was the gearbox downshifting delay, that takes about 2 seconds to complete...
I purchased a W124 (90' 300E) ten years ago in beautiful shape for $3K; it had 142K miles and all records. I thought it would be problem free being a highly engineered car but age plays its part and things come apart. Each year it would cost me $1,500.00 for something and then a full valve/stem job with extras for $5K in 2021 (it's a Sunday driver for me). I love the car but as it ages it has replacement needs so I've accepted that but hope the Dr. is not needed for a few yrs. now.
Modern cars( since year 2000) exterior body design looks like bulldozers when compared to these sleek and classy and imposing looks of cars of 1980s and 1970s
Which one more tough..more reliable... 300 E or w124 facelift E classe 93 to 96? As i know facelift wiring harness biodegradable ..there's time limit ..and has limited lifespan..or rat love bio ..right??
