Under Lisa Bluder, Iowa has been a shooter’s school and a passer’s school for years. I think they’ve slowly built up momentum with their guard-oriented style of play since at least the Sam Logic era. In fact, Kate Martin and future WNBA draft pick Sydney Affolter have a lot in common with Logic - Swiss Army Knife guards who do a lit bit of everything. (Caitlin Clark is basically the superhero version of that.) Olsen sounds like a great fit for Bluder’s system, and Iowa will be a contender, at least, in a VERY crowded Big Ten race next year.
Thank you for talking about the Iowa team. Caitlin is a rock star but that supporting cast does not get the love it deserves. Iowa brings the best out of its team. Im excited for Taylor McCabe to finally make her mark, she’s a sharpshooter who I think will improve her ball handling even more with more playing time. Sydney is a future leader on the court, she’s the hardest worker out there and I expect to see her really take a lead bringing older and newer players together. Hannah, O “Grady and AJ will be a fantastic rotation at post. Three different styles of post play will be able to contend with the different styles of play across the league. With the addition of a much needed point guard they will have what it takes to go far. Lastly, that culture is solid, and when a team has that it will always be a factor. It’s easy to rebuild with players, but the culture is the key to keeping those players tight when they struggle.

As much as she meant to Iowa's success, there are ways to win games without a once in a generation talent and Iowa is well positioned with the players coming back and coming in to be a very formidable team again this year. When Warnock and Czinano left everybody (but me) was crying that the sky is falling. Same thing this year. Iowa will be fine and it will be a very fun season to watch them adapt to the post Clark era.
Iowa will be fine. Olsen is a very intelligent person and obviously has worked very hard on improving herself. This is regrettably more rare than one would think. So many college players stagnate after landing that scholarship. Some even regress over time. With Olsen on board Iowa can start a roster with Olsen and McCabe in the backcourt, with Affolter at the three. They can have O’Grady and Stuelke up front, and work Heiden into the front line as she develops. They also have several freshman guards coming in who will be good contributors. It’s an exciting time to be a fan of this team.
Agree with all of this! Nobody can replace the Caitlin Clark show, but I hope all Hawk fans realize we have a very good, very fun team coming back next year. Landing a big transfer who fits a crucial need should help keep the buzz going around the program.
I know CC was the "point" for Iowa, they really played 2 most of the time, and had 3 guards starting that could run the offense, Gabby could also do it, but was more of a shooter/defensive player. I see Iowa staying with the 3 guards at 1/2 position with pure shooter 4th guard McCabe, and a single big and still running. Still need to see how Jada works out, and their soph point guard Kennise. Affolter will still be the all around best player, Feuerbach will probably be the Defensive player but also play some point and can shoot. They should still end up, was thinking top 3 or 4 in the B1G, but forgot they're getting some teams, might drop them to around 5, but will still be a 20 win team.
Iowa has major pieces returning Affoltor, Stuelke, McCabe n has the #9 recruiting class comming in this season plus now Olson. I'm not saying Iowa is final four material again but I sure ain't betting they won't be tere again either.
Big East on the road to irrelevance as a conference. Lucy Olsen will be better...she'll actually have some help. Hannah Hidalgo will continue to impress, but her height (5'6") may hinder pro prospects. JuJu needs to become a complete player, or she needs to get a better team around her, shooting % and assists need to come way up.
Big East is in ALOT better shape than you think especially thanks to realignment. UConn is still a top 5 program and will be for a couple years so that will keep them relevant. In the mean time PAC 12 just died. I dont know if you follow college realignment but I'm a big college football fan so I do. The Pac 12 is dead next season, this was the last year for them. There is no more PAC 12 so Big East just moved up a spot in conference rankings. If they were 6th best last year then its 5th best now. ACC is next to fall and will be dead within 3-4 years. So Big East will pass ACC as well. In all likely hood a new "football wing" of the Big East will take hold with UConn, Syracuse, Boston College, Wake Forest, Memphis and other teams like that. The one thing the Big East has to worry about is the SMALL chance that Big 12 offers them membership which would devastate the Big East as a conference but this is a very small chance because their football team doesn't do much of anything and there aren't great football recruits in Connecticut. In the most likely scenarios there will be two conference in the elite tier (Big 10 and SEC) then another tier with just the Big 12 then a tier with the Mountain West, the AAC and probably the Big East. This means Big East while being far behind in revenue from the top 3 conferences will be probably be the 5th highest revenue generating conference which is actually moving up from where they are at now which is 7th or 8th. Even if they dont really grow their revenue (which they probably will) their "market share" will increase slightly.

Quita, great human interest story, Ava Jones, 6' 2" given scholship at Iowa, great scorer high school. Three days later, car accident, father killed, mother, brother, herself multiple broken bones. She is rehabbing and missed last last season. Iowa players included her in team functions. They took her to the rehab sessions. Bluder considers her one of the team and everyone supports her. Ava may or may not play BB again, but this is an Iowa BB success story. Explains why scholarships limited to 15 were taken. Go Ava!! Go Hawkeyes!!! 7:44
Night blowback just clarification, Caitlin was dictating her basketball and choosing her spots, Lucy and most have to improvise. There is add events difference between a player who sees the court and creates a chance for a 3-point play every time down and a player who sees another player and improvises a shot.
Aren't you disappointed in their recruiting process? They had Clark for 4 years and they couldn't even get any help for them to actually give Clark and others some rest? Imagine if they actually added this a year ago, or at least another player that's able to contribute to the team and help them--they might have actually gone and won the championship, or at least been able to do better (with a fresher, more rested Clark) than they did post Q1. I don't think this team will really change. They lost their best chance at successful Final Four visits since they were in a strong conference, and now lost their main contribution to winning games: Clark. They'll probably lose double or more of what they did with Clark. It's a shame that they never helped Caitlin Clark's teams with better recruiting.
Iowa's recruiting is as good as it's ever been. There's literally only one returning player next year who was not a top 100 recruit, and a top 10 class + Olsen coming in to join them in 2024. Iowa hasn't had this much talent waiting in the wings since C Vivian Stringer was recruiting there.
That's because the Iowa Way is Loyalty, Self-development, & Team Play all based in stable ethical culture. You see the transfer turnover thar other teams because they have unstable culture - fights , suspensions, dirty laundry instead of focus, unity, and good citizenship. They push their scholarship players out. They excuse violence and misbehavior. They even encourage bias, divisive ness, and antipathy. Iowa rather chooses to be loyal and to focus on stable team chemistry, great execution, and also charitable outreach to fans. Breaking up Clark's teams with players who weren't part of the chemistry and ready for the speed of Iowa players could have been disastrous, not to mention unethical. You can always buy a ring, but it never has the same value as trying to earn one. We don't want to be Uconn, SC, or LSU or to be a part of the GateKeeper regime that has killed inspiration in women's basketball for decades. We want to support the solution and Caitlin Clark and her coach and teammates just showed us the way.
They had Molly Davis to play this role. Unfortunately, she had a season-ending injury in the last regular season game. Iowa played the entire post-season without her, and still went 8-1, going all the way to the championship game, and hanging tough with one of the best teams in CBB history. Clark wasn’t playing any minutes she didn’t want to or wasn’t up for. A healthy Molly indeed might have added enough to make it close enough to pull off the upset over SC, but we’ll never know. The idea that anybody should be disappointed in Iowa’s recruiting process after the last two seasons is laughable.
I think this makes Iowa more of a threat because it’s proven that TEAMS win championships and maybe more of the team will become involved and not depend on one player to win…no disrespect to CC but they may do better…meaning ACTUALLY WIN IT ALL WITH DISTRIBUTION OF POINTS…individual stats and records is good but the goal is to win Championships
Lucy Olsen is a great player, but in one respect I feel sorry for her. No matter how well she plays, people will always be comparing her to Clark now that she has joined Iowa. Iowa will have a good team next year but I don't see how they replicate what they did the last few years without Clark, Martin and Marshall coming back.
Coach Bluder will be revealed as the actual "coach of the year" over the last years. While she did have Caitlin, the rest has been/is a hand selected group of three star players, average in talent. Bluder coaches them into styles reminiscent of Steve Nash's Phoenix suns, with less dribbling and better shooting. She does more with less than anyone else and we're going to see something special. - look for Lucy to challenge as top scorer in the wncaa and her assists to go up a lot. - the UConn game doesn't matter because she had a lackluster team and UConn fields an All-Star team, we all see what happens with the talent monopolies. - We should stop comparing juju and others to Caitlin because Caitlin had the skill set of two top-tier players and it's too much pressure. - Hannah Stuelke is underrated, her game is built on speed, not sitting on the block.
Along with that,Taylor McCabe should be the designated sniper on the Iowa Hawkeyes next season! I’m hearing that Bluder put her in sparingly this past season so that she didn’t outshine Caitlin when she was out on the floor. McCabe did fill in for Caitlin at times to relieve her for a water or breather break. Stuelke IS CAPABLE OF HITTING 3 point shots. She did that a lot throughout her high school career. She is most utilized for the post because of her size and speed and verticality once she gets a step on the defender for the layup.
@@marcusb.3038 Hawkeyes yes, McCabe has a nice shot, definitely was no worry about her outshining Clark that is a rumor, we're still waiting to see if she can shine in crunch time. If Hannah developed a consistent 3 and could stretch out bags from the rim that would open up the Iowa lanes in a big way. Bluder knows how to coach and get the most out of each girl.
@@destinypirate Stuelke could use a few drop step moves in the paint as well as step throughs. Doing those correctly and consistently would boost her confidence sky high in the post.
@@marcusb.3038 agreed it gets so tricky with her having to play the five and not freed up to use her quickness more, and then before of course she had to Taylor her game to compliment clark and the four guard system
Hey, when you get a chance, check out the LSU women's basketball players meet and greet video. Izzy Besselman looks a lot like Kate Martin of Iowa(Las Vegas Aces). She could definitely be her sister. Tell me if you think I'm wrong.
And this is what a star player does to a not so powerhouse bball.program. That is why it is good for the league to spread all those star players to maintain parity but sadly most 5star incoming freshmen and transfers are afraid to carve their own path. Superteams are booooooring.
Marshall, Martin, n Davis averaged 27-29 mins a game NOT 40... Affoltor, McCabe, n Feuerbach also logged key mins in games too, kinda misleading the viewers with saying that.
Kiss&Tell Iowa will make the playoffs as a final 8 team without Lucy Olsen. Now Iowa has talent other than Caitlin Clarke , need the players couldn't shot 3s all day like Caitlin but when Caitlin is being sometimes 3 teamed who ever Caitlin pass that ball to nails the 3 pointer. They have more good enough to play anywhere but you got to be bad to consistently play the whole game with her.
Olsen played poorly against UConn this season, I don't think she will make that much difference for Iowa, sorry. One must remember, Olsen played in the BIG EASY, no competition, just UConn.
This was to be expected! She played with Maddie Seacrest last year! Guess who the leading scorer in the country last year was? No, it was not Caitlin Clark! If the media doesn’t, hype you up, you are basically nothing! That’s is the sad part about women’s college basketball!

😢Molly was a starter too. Everybody seems to be forgetting that.
Good Morning Quinta, your Chicago Sky is going to be a problem for the league. Omg
Chicago Sky will be THAT team! No doubt.👀👀👀💯
BTW, the Aces is my team!😂
Watching McCabe, I thought she was going to be the new PG next season. Ah well.
@@destinypirate well now Addison O’Grady can play the 5, Stuelke will get the 4, Affolter the 3, McCabe the 2 and Olsen the 1! Let’s Gooo!
It is unfair to ask anyone to be Caitlin Clark. Caitlin Clark is Caitlin Clark, Lucy Olsen is Lucy Olsen.
Graduate Student Molly Davis was Iowa’s point guard until she was hurt in the conference tournament.
Iowa needs another Caitlin Clark, Although they had a few good players, Clark carried the team.
Olsen played poorly against UConn this season, I don't think she will make that much difference for Iowa, sorry. One must remember, Olsen played in the BIG EASY, no competition, just UConn.
I thought she decided not to go to Iowa?
Cone on Mom and Dad ...Lucy!?....Lucy!Out of all the baby girl names, you pick some dam Lucy. I need a cigarette 🤨
3rd in scoring D1 not NCAA
She should fit in perfectly, small ,good shooter and bad defense.
To paraphrase Josef Stalin...prolific offense has a defensive quality all its own. Score 100 points and dare the other team to keep up.
@@elmarko9051Bad defense = 0 championships
@@rover7139 How many of those "champions" just inked a $25 Million shoe deal?
@@elmarko9051 so it's about shoe deals....stop talking about basketball you're embarrassing yourself.
This was to be expected! She played with Maddie Seacrest last year! Guess who the leading scorer in the country last year was? No, it was not Caitlin Clark! If the media doesn’t, hype you up, you are basically nothing! That’s is the sad part about women’s college basketball!
CC WAS the leader in SCORING last year. Also assists and 3 pointers made. Caitlin DESERVEDLY got the hype and viewers!
Please don't spout untrue things as if they are facts fool. These things can be looked up.
O Leary will improve, Molly Davis will be solid outside, stoffer will be good
