How I Play Robotron 2084

Watch footage of a session of Robotron to demonstrate how I physically used my hands to play. I know, it will be very difficult to get used to the arcade controls again, but real arcades are hard to come by.

One thing that makes the game easier, and that even many top players don't do, is to let the mines take out some of the grunts for you. On some of the heavily mined waves, I won't start shooting for a few seconds, and instead focus on walking around the mines while the grunts take themselves out. If you shoot those mines, then it takes two shots total to take out one mine AND a grunt.
On the tank and brain waves, you're in danger immediately so I start shooting right off the bat.

Now thats some skill in qction. Eugene Jarvis talked about being in the zone and his personal goal is a million points plus,he has a game cabinet in his basement. Addictive to watch a good player.

On the lady brain wave 5, we use to “save Mikey” and if none of your humans were reprogrammed, you completed the wave without dying and picked up Mikey last, we called it “a one man wave with style”. 🤟🏻
Btw. That’s craziness in the bottom, left corner on wave 13 is one of the reasons I still play this game 40 years later. The exhilaration of squeezing between stuff with shit flying all over the place is second to none. Ouch 40 years.

Does anyone out there know anything about changing the levels, or the video setting, -smooth, clean and something else? To me 5 doesn't seem much different than 2 or 3. And I believe 5 is the default setting. Has anyone tried higher than 5? Thx

@CCC0122 You need to use f1, f2 or f3. Can't remember which. You'll hear it boop and cycle through multiple screens until you get to the one where you can change number of men to start with and difficulty. You then use your joysticks to navigate and change values. Cheers!

I'm impressed. I have an original Robotron and before I got it, I tried lots of configurations on MAME without success. You should be very good on an original cab.
