OMG!!! I have been looking for this FOREVER! I never knew what it was called, but we had this record when I was a kid and it was my favorite thing about Halloween!
We had this playing through speakers outside for the trick or treaters to hear. I would make our porch pretty scary using this album, black lights, a strobe and props that we bought, but mostly made. I started decorating when I was 6 because I had gotten this album for my 5th birthday . I loved scary movies so after my parents went too bed I would turan the tv on low after my parents went to bed. I remember a vampire movie that David Lynch was in. I’ve never been able to find, but finding this album is encouraging, so maybe I will find the movie.
My brother and I played this constantly as kids!! Hearing it again, with the vinyl clicks and clacks, brings up Autumn memories from my childhood in the early 70's!♡♡♡
My mom purchased this for me after a long day at Disneyland. We had this tradition of ending our day there at that big main street souvenir shop. Our parents would let us browse the store and choose one or two things to buy. I recall not finding a single thing I liked in that entire store, until I came upon this record. It was the small vinyls and the background was purple instead of red but had the same picture. I must have listened to it a million times. It inspired me to get a bunch of my friends together and plan a big, walk-through haunted house for Halloween. It was a very big effort, more like a production, complete with special effects and lighting and automation. And of course, we had to have the organ music from the Haunted Mansion ride. Probably one of the most happy memories of my entire life. Such an exciting time to be with friends who are just as enthusiastic as you are about the project and it turning out to be a huge success. We rehearsed and planned and built for months. I threw a Halloween party and invited all my classmates and almost all attended. The only downer was it started to rain during the walk-through and though the entire thing was indoors, those waiting to have a turn had to wait outdoors and had no choice. a few kids got soaking wet and a few others almost missed a turn but we trudged through and did it one more time for those who almost missed out. All were impressed with the huge spectacle. I remember feeling empty inside after it was over because so much planning and collaboration had gone into it, it was like, now what? LOL. This little record started it all!
Every Halloween in the '70's my parents would play it on our giant wood furniture stereo. So glad I could find it. I remember those screams like it was yesterday. They give me chills because of the memories!
Same here brother. All of the houses in our neighborhood would play this album over and over again on Halloween night as you went door to door trick or treating.
Is this album the chilling thrilling sounds of the haunted 👻 house 🏠 on c.d. yet?. Because if it is I want to add this c.d. of the chilling thrilling sounds of the haunted 👻 house 🏠 to my music c.d. collection!.
And the most thing I like about this album the chilling thrilling sounds of the haunted 👻 house 🏠 is the screams and groans and the fuses and explosions.
I too had this record when I was little. Now I am 52 years old and setting up a lil' homemade haunted house for my kids to enjoy, just like my sisters & I used to do in the basement of our childhood home. My copy of this long lost, I hadn't thought about it in many years but suddenly HAD to find it to play tonight! Listening to it now brings it all back, a time when everyone in my family was alive, healthy and happy... I REMEMBER. And I find that I still know and can recite every word, every haunting sound, along with the recording. It's incredible! Thank you so, so much for uploading!!! 🎃👏
Same ..I haven't heard this in..has to be 45yrs..never knew what it was called...I just found it on here..man..the memories..I used to listen to this all yr round.. lifetime lover of Halloween..😊
So funny. I'm your age--53 now--and just went through exactly the same experience you did but a year later. I remembered this album yesterday and had to find it online. Here we are. So many Halloweens as a kid spent listening to this. Cheers.
I've been saying: "You are a Bold and Courageous person....afraid of nothing..." most of my adult life remembering back to when I was a kid and I would play this 100 out of 365 days year!
The pop and crackle of this vinyl takes me back...way back. So many Halloweens since then... Thank you for posting this great old record. Happy Halloween!
Oh my God, I remember this like it was yesterday!!! I never thought I would hear this again. I think I was 5 or 6 when i first heard this and I'm 41 now:-)
I remember my grandparents would decorate the house and play this record all night. That's when we could trick or treat till 10 pm. I remember the smell of the pumpkins and the smell of bubble gum and tootsies rolls.
I bought this record so long ago I can't remember how old I was. Played it a lot though. It's so strange how a record like "this" can bring back memories but it does. I think I was around 10 years old and my parents gave me the console stereo and bought a record player that had two speakers. In those days a record player and AM/FM stereo with two speakers and 8 track stereo player was revolutionary. Thank You for posting this and taking me back to my childhood years.
OMG!, I FOUND IT! - I had this LP in 1975 as a very young lad, and it was coool! So many years ago, youthful years are the best years. I did listen to it a lot. I don't know what the hell happened to my copy, I think my dad threw it away in one of our dreaded house moves. Thank You! Dean Leatherman for uploading this, last time I heard this was 1979, i think. Wow it brings back memories and my love for Halloween!!!! Awesome dude you rock!!!!!
On Halloween night my brother and I would stick one of my stereo speakers in the window, turn off the lights, wait for little kids to show up and start playing side two at 15:06 (we gave out candy too).
It does *not* have to be Halloween season to enjoy this. Here I am, in *March* of 2019, and I am loving reliving boyhood memories of this album. Nowhere near Halloween...and I *love* it!
My favorite! We played this on the record player (crudenza) every Halloween. Loved this! I was born in 1968, this came out in 1964, Last time I remember listening to this was when I was a teenager. Thank you for posting! This is the best album!!!
Not fair!!! How did I not know about this?!! At 62? Living just a few blocks from Disneyland, where, as a toddler, I’d get wheeled around with my brother, my aunt, and my cousins. Never knew this record even existed! Thank you for posting this. The vinyl crackles totally make it!!! Edit: first visit to Disneyland at 6months old, getting to listen to this for the first time at 62, ON Halloween day 2021? Priceless.
I was watching that film years ago, heard that scream and was instantly transported back in time. I was 5 years old listening to records in my room. “You thought there was going to be a huge explosion, didn’t you??”
My friends and I LOVED this record in the early 1970's! My mom purchased it for me, and we would play it on my turn table, and freak each other out! Awesome memories
During Halloween, we would open our windows and put both speakers on the window sill. Play it for the trick or treaters. It was so much fun back in those days.
I'm a 60's Halloween lover. This record played on real to real tape at every house. I was so scared, I refused to get my candy. Now I put on a super spooky show for kids. The Halloween house. lol
This album was playing throughout my bestie's neighborhood when I was whisked from middle school (junior high then) and surprised on Halloween with a trip to her house for trick or treating. It is my best best memory of childhood. I remember it so fondly. Someone was playing this album and it resonated thru the night and helped make me the Halloween fanatic I am today...
I was just saying 10 minutes ago, beforevI read your comment that at least every other house in our neighborhood was playing this on Halloween night. Somewhere between 71 and 1973. Great memories!
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hilltop near your home stands a dilapidated old mansion. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the uppermost window of the old house. You decide to investigate...and you never return! The screaming lady always scared the shit out of me as a kid. Disney needs to finally release these on Cd.
But there's something to be said about the scratchy sound of the album. I have a turntable so I bought the album on eBay. I had it when I was 5 years old but it was lost over the last 35 years.
+Kenneth Christensen The "Screaming Lady" was taken from the 1946 film, "Great Expectations". It is the scream of Miss Havisham, as she catches on fire, & burns to death.
The Cat and Chinese Water Torture narrations were the ones I remembered best...and how side 2 was even scarier because I didn't have the narrator for company...I was on my own...all alone...in Halloween season...and it was *GREAAAAAAAT!!* ;>
Thank you for sharing this. I had the LP record when I was a kid, and it was one of those things that left a lasting impression on me in childhood. Brings back some great memories! This was one of the best presents my mom ever got me as a kid!
I had this album as a kid and LOVED it! Still do. Brings back so many memories. It may be the reason I love Halloween so much to this day. Funny thing is that even as young as I was, it never really scared me. It fascinated me.
+Escape2Muszik Same. It was not scary -it was enthralling. Yet it liberated my imagination to go to terrifying places. I think this album was probably the reason why the first thing i did as soon as i developed any rudimentary reading skills was to skip the small stuff and reach straight for Edgar Allen Poe! ;)
Wow. Speechless. I was born in 1973 and remember listening to this back in the 70's. Always wondered if I'd be able to find it again so my 9 year old daughter could enjoy it too.. She loves Halloween. This is awesome! Thx for uploading a walk down memory lane. :) If I could only put in words how meaningful this record was back then and I'm stunned that is is exactly how I remember it ...maybe don't remember every single sound but the feeling is exactly how I remember it. #NostalgiaPurity
Rod Burkholz This album is the soundtrack of my life! As a latchkey kid, parents divorced in 79, my sister & I used this album for our year round “Haunted Hell Amusement Park” in our garage & attic. We charged the neighborhood kids fifty cents to be guided through it. Most ran out hysterically crying! Many parents called our mother or came to house to complain about it.
This is awesome. I still have the original album of this. We used to put the speakers in the upstairs windows, scared the poop out the kids on trick or treat nights. LOL What memories I've had.
Thank you SO much for still having this.. I was born in 67 and to this day I remember this Album.. I only wish I still had this!! Thanks for sharing this wonderful childhood memory :)
Our mother played this recored for the six of us every time we carved jack-o-lanterns for Halloween. Now I'm playing this youtube post for my son - scary and cool - tks for posting!
It really was a brilliant idea for Phish to "cover" this. I was a child experiencing my first halloweens through the 80's and I totally recognized the sound of that woman's narration and the classic effects. I didn't have the recording myself back then, but I must've heard it a lot when out trick-or-treating. So, I'm sure there were a lot of people like myself that have it somewhere in their subconscious, not to mention those that had the recording and remember it well.
I waited until now to regain the memory of this album's title. Now, it's in my favorites! And next, to track down a physical copy on CD (original recording, not some burned illegal copy), in case this ever gets taken down off of You Tube.
I never had this album but someone brought it to school in 2nd grade and we listened to it. Never forgot it and downloaded the opening "You are a brave and courageous person...." from iTunes several years ago for my yard haunt. This is classic and take me back to a simpler and more enjoyable time!
We still have this album to this very day with all the scratches. I absolutely loved listening to this every year. This is the first time I've heard it since I was a teenager. I am now 52 years old and this brings back great great memories. By the way I always wondered who owned that house and who was inside of that house. And especially... Who turned on the light!?!
I typed in "scary sound effect record" just hoping to find this record. Success! I remember listening to this in the late 70s when I was about 6 until maybe until I was 10.
In 1977 My seventh grade music teacher played this for us never forgot that crunching sound @ 15min or so I'm ....looking for this today ...out of all the other choices ..I knew it by that crunching ......Thank You Mrs.Lnnell Pine Grove Junior High School 7A
This was one of my favorite childhood records in the early 1970s! I wish Disney or whoever owns the rights to it would reissue it on cd! Thanks for posting, Dean!
I remember my sister and I playing this over and over in the late 70’s . One of my favorite childhood memories. This is where my love for Halloween began
Lol, that scream! It's the only part I could do or recall for my now 30yr. old son! My older brothers put this on EVERY year and locked me in the basement to terrify me...and it did...and Iloved it! I didn't realize how many of us there were. I've never described this to anyone who knew what I was talking about! Such a shame for them~ whaaa haa haha!!! Thank you for sharing it with us. Gotta love UA-cam, you can find your treasured memories, happy AND sad here~ Enjoy everyone~🎃💝👻
13:30 is my favorite -- LOL -- my brother, a master electrician and sound engineer even as a kid (in the early 70s) played this through a beat up console stereo we set out in the carport -- LOVE LOVE LOVE it. Listening to it now is just amazing. "A light appears in the top window...." yay! Happy Halloween!
Played this out of my window during Halloween. Talk about flash backs from listening to this. Back when kids would still go door to door trick or treating.
I loved this when I was a kid. I bought a copy a few years ago and converted it to digital so I can use it at Halloween. One of my favorites. This and "Alfred Hitchcocks, Ghost Stories for Younger People".
Thanks for sharing this! Great listening to this now after some 40 plus years. Brings me right back to Halloween in the 70s my dad would put the speaker in the window and blast this ablum. Can't beat the crackling vinyl!
We had this album when we were kids...my brother and I were reminiscing....he send me a picture. 😂😂😂 so I looked here on you tube to see if it was here. Lol!
So Glad I found this, I loved this as a kid! use to play it on our old turn table all the time an just take a nap on the ground listening to it. pretty sure i had nightmares, but oh well.
What great memories! I loved that we always had this playing through the window of my room every Halloween! I used to scare all the little kids like crazy!
kevfla well I guess many teenagers all over the U.S.A were doing this exact same ritual of putting this record on during Halloween, placing their speakers near their open front bedroom windows and letting the whole street hear it...my younger sister at the time was always afraid to go near that particular house and nobody on that street never really knew the family that lived there. anyways, I owned that same vinyl record but didn't have the speakers to match and I envied the bastard. he put on a good show for 2 Halloween's until they moved in '72. don't know where they moved to......maybe Texas?
I remember this record when I was a kid. it was a staple at Halloween at my house! I was so pumped when i typed Disney Halloween record into google and it was the first thing that came up. I can't believe I remembered it was Disney!
I went to a hippie school in the 70's, and they had this record in their collection. We wore it out playing it at different speeds, backwards... any way but normal. What a flashback!
I too had this album as a child and have always remember it . I don't what became of that album and have looked for it in my mom 's record collection , guess it was lost to time . However I think this is perfect for Halloween , this a treat hearing this again . Thanks for uploading .
I can literally SMELL our old wooden stereo cabinet as this plays. What fantastic memories! Thank you!
Growing up as a kid in the 70's was magic!
YESSSSS I remember this on album,I think I still have it in my basement lol 😂
The good times never die.
OMG!!! I have been looking for this FOREVER! I never knew what it was called, but we had this record when I was a kid and it was my favorite thing about Halloween!
Same here! Used to have this one and an Alfred Hitchcock Scary story album too 👻☠💀😱😊.
Me too. I had it as a kid too
We had this playing through speakers outside for the trick or treaters to hear. I would make our porch pretty scary using this album, black lights, a strobe and props that we bought, but mostly made. Listened to this every Halloween with my brother.
I wish I didn't get rid of this one 😞
My brother and I played this constantly as kids!! Hearing it again, with the vinyl clicks and clacks, brings up Autumn memories from my childhood in the early 70's!♡♡♡
One of their absolute classics!
Narration by the late, great Laura Olsher, in case anyone was ever wondering.
I *was* wondering. Thank you! ... And thank you, Olsher! :D
thank you
Thank you,I was wondering!
When did Laura olsher pass away?.
My mom purchased this for me after a long day at Disneyland. We had this tradition of ending our day there at that big main street souvenir shop. Our parents would let us browse the store and choose one or two things to buy. I recall not finding a single thing I liked in that entire store, until I came upon this record.
Yes! Same giant beautiful stereo/TV combo console! And my Mom would hide in the big pine tree on her Witch costume and scare children 😁😂😉

I've been saying: "You are a Bold and Courageous person....afraid of nothing..." most of my adult life remembering back to when I was a kid and I would play this 100 out of 365 days year!
I used to think that if you were afraid of nothing... then you were a scaredy cat. ;-)
OMG me too! I had that whole thing memorized and recited it often. And still can to this day.
And then you see a Phish concert
"And you never return". Has been stuck in my head since the 70s.
Lol!! That opening phrase has also echoed in my head... for 45 years! It's so weird to hear it again. She sounds exactly as I remembered. So crazy.
I would sit and study this album cover all the time as a child as I listened. Loved the art.
I did tooooo
Me too 🎃
The pop and crackle of this vinyl takes me back...way back.
So many Halloweens since then...
Thank you for posting this great old record.
Happy Halloween!
I still have the record,, nothing beats the creaking sound of a vinyl record
Yup, I still have mine too. Happy Halloween!
I wished I still had mine.
lol i don't know what happened to mine, but i love this XD
My cursed older brothers destroyed mine decades ago. Tell me... what exactly were the "Spooky Party Hints" from the inside liner?
Better the sound of a creaking record ,,,than the sound of creaking floorboards of a real Haunted House !👻💀👻
Oh my God, I remember this like it was yesterday!!! I never thought I would hear this again. I think I was 5 or 6 when i first heard this and I'm 41 now:-)
This was a classic. My dad had this and it terrified me and I loved it all at the same time. 70's Halloween times were the best
I remember my grandparents would decorate the house and play this record all night. That's when we could trick or treat till 10 pm. I remember the smell of the pumpkins and the smell of bubble gum and tootsies rolls.
ahh! memories!!!!!!
Whoever did the scream at 2:47 had an incredible vocal range
If there is one thing I remember about this album, it is that scream!! We laughed so hard every time we heard it!!
I think it was a professional singer, like an operatic baritone. It would be great to know who it was!
That is freaking scary to this day, too!
Kinda sounds like Pinto Colvig. He did a lot of various voices, including Goofy. He also did the Goofy “wah-hoo-hoo-hooey”.
That scream used to terrify me when I was a kid in the 70s!! Love it now lol

I've been listening to this since '71.My mom still has it and smokes a joint to it every Halloween. What a way for a 73 yr old to spend the night, eh!
Thanks for posting!! This is the CLASSIC!
I fear this generation does not have stuff like this, that everyone remembers.
We had this on vinyl!!!
The band Phish created 10 pieces of music to go with each track and played them in Vegas on Halloween night 2014 . Check it out ,very creative.

Still have it. We lived in a big creepy mansion and this record made us sleep with the lights on.
This album was played for us in 3rd grade. Mrs. Hoffman's class (mid sixties). The spooky sounds make the hair on the back of my neck stand up.
I had this album as a kid and LOVED it! Still do. Brings back so many memories. It may be the reason I love Halloween so much to this day. Funny thing is that even as young as I was, it never really scared me. It fascinated me.

I had this when I was a kid, I didn't realize it was released in 1964.
born in 1966 and grew up listening to this every Halloween OVER AND OVER !! I always loved Halloween and this takes me back !!
I lost nearly all my Disney LPs in a fire.. but this survived.. still have it and play it every Halloween for the trick-or-treaters
Wow what a memory..had it as a kid and me and my sister used to listen to it every Halloween....
I remember owning this album when I was a kid, I think almost every house in my neighborhood use to play it on Halloween.
I can't believe I found this! When I was a kid I had this 45. The backside was the sound of barking dogs growing closer.
I had this as a kid in the 70's!! me and my friends wore this out playing it. Good memories!
Our mother played this recored for the six of us every time we carved jack-o-lanterns for Halloween. Now I'm playing this youtube post for my son - scary and cool - tks for posting!
I loved this as a kid in the 1960s. When the Haunted Mansion record came out, it was heaven as well!
I had this one when I was a kid!! Played it though out the year, not just Halloween.
Phish did a rendition of this album!!??? Huh?!! Was that an awesome rip on Phish?! Or were you being serious?!!
@@BushyHairedStranger Phish did a lot of cool stuff back in the 90’s.
I never had this album but someone brought it to school in 2nd grade and we listened to it. Never forgot it and downloaded the opening "You are a brave and courageous person...." from iTunes several years ago for my yard haunt. This is classic and take me back to a simpler and more enjoyable time!
Disney really made some creepy music and this by far is my favorite Halloween thing to listen to. still gives me chills!
Listened to this 1000 times as a kid. Still have the album. CLASSIC!
If it's in mint condition it would be worth a lot of money.
So awesome I totally remember this as a kid had the album! It was amazing! Brings back so many memories! Thanks for posting
I used this record for sound effects in my own tape recorded stories. GREAT childhood memories.
I typed in "scary sound effect record" just hoping to find this record. Success! I remember listening to this in the late 70s when I was about 6 until maybe until I was 10.
Yup, I had this as a kid. Scared the hell out of me and I loved it
In 1977 My seventh grade music teacher played this for us never forgot that crunching sound @ 15min or so I'm ....looking for this today ...out of all the other choices ..I knew it by that crunching ......Thank You Mrs.Lnnell Pine Grove Junior High School 7A
That’s what stood out for me as well. Don’t know what made me think about it after all these years, but glad I found this!
This was one of my favorite childhood records in the early 1970s! I wish Disney or whoever owns the rights to it would reissue it on cd! Thanks for posting, Dean!
I used to dig this and similar recordsout to listen in the earlie 90s... How i wish i can go back for a lil bit.
I remember my sister and I playing this over and over in the late 70’s . One of my favorite childhood memories. This is where my love for Halloween began
Use to scare the shit out of me!!!
Man - this is one CRAZY HOUSE!! lol
Gotta love UA-cam, you can find your treasured memories, happy AND sad here~
Enjoy everyone~🎃💝👻
I loved this album when I was a kid. The first time I heard it it did scare me a bit but I grew to really love it. We still own it I think...
Love this album ! Best childhood memories
Why would a light appear to be on?????🥹🥹
Played this out of my window during Halloween.
My siblings and I LOVED this album! I remember every single sound from it!
I still have this album!
Me as well. I remember studying on the album art as I listened. Too fun!!
Keep it, its has some value these days. :0) I need another copy myself.
I had this as a kid. it was old even when I was a kid. it came out 3 years before I was born.
Thanks for sharing this! Great listening to this now after some 40 plus years. Brings me right back to Halloween in the 70s my dad would put the speaker in the window and blast this ablum. Can't beat the crackling vinyl!
Great LP had it as a kid. Played it every Halloween. Great Memories. TY!

Axe E Dent My Parents bought my copy in '73 from Zody's in Pontiac, MI as one of my 5th birthday gifts. DOB:10/28/68. jedrzejczykstanleynick@gmail.com
Zody's...I remember.
You are now looking at a TERRFIED 6 year old that was forced by his big brother to endure these sounds!
I listened to this a hundred times if I listened to it once.... It takes me back.
loved as a kid playing now as I pass out treats...Happy Hallows Eve ya'll!!!!!
I still have this album.
Got it back in 1970 when I was 6.
What great memories! I loved that we always had this playing through the window of my room every Halloween! I used to scare all the little kids like crazy!
a neighbor of mine played this record through his window on charlaine st. in santa ana ca. during the 70's, was that you?
Nope. LOL
I lived in Texas in the 70's
kevfla well I guess many teenagers all over the U.S.A were doing this exact same ritual of putting this record on during Halloween, placing their speakers near their open front bedroom windows and letting the whole street hear it...my younger sister at the time was always afraid to go near that particular house and nobody on that street never really knew the family that lived there. anyways, I owned that same vinyl record but didn't have the speakers to match and I envied the bastard. he put on a good show for 2 Halloween's until they moved in '72. don't know where they moved to......maybe Texas?
Yes me too.I listen to it every year. Scared the crap out of me when I was really little. lol
Wow ! I SO remember this creepy record . The orange album jacket , omg ! Childhood in the 70's was special .
This is GOLD!! Thanks for the trip down memory lane👍
I remember this record when I was a kid. it was a staple at Halloween at my house! I was so pumped when i typed Disney Halloween record into google and it was the first thing that came up. I can't believe I remembered it was Disney!

*Not* old. We have taste. :)
Damn, I had a good life growing up. You just don't realize it until you're older and look back on relics such as this. GREAT TIMES!
Whoever uploaded this: you are a saint. Thank you
I went to a hippie school in the 70's, and they had this record in their collection.
