Summer in Bray, Co. Wicklow, Ireland 1978

As temperatures soar people heading to popular destinations are warned to keep water safety in mind.
The sun shone all over Ireland with temperatures reaching 20 degrees in the west and south.
That’s above normal but a strong breeze kept it cooler in the east and north.
In response to the brilliant weather, people take to beaches and parks in their thousands. In Dublin the seaside area at Seapoint is in hot demand. Another popular destination is Dublin Zoo, which many children are visiting for the first time.
In County Wicklow, Bray is the resort of choice, with the promenade and surrounding area thronged with visitors enjoying the sunshine.
However, with the fine weather comes a message of warning from the Minister of State Ruairí Quinn on the dangers of watersports.
He appealed to those in charge of children to be particularly vigilant.
Four Wicklow men in a small boat run into trouble when their engine breaks down about a mile away from Bray. They have to seek assistance from the Air Corps and Dún Laoghaire lifeboat
