  • Delgany, Co Wicklow, Jan 8th 1982... The man behind the camera was Ted Spendlove.. The owner of the Wicklow Arms at the time. Included in the clip are John Barry (First in clip), Ray Barry (walking by the Horse and Hound carrying the gas cylinder ), Bertie McKay, Mrs McKay Ollie Hayden.... Too many hats and hoods to identify any more. Notice the old entrance to the Horse bar on the corner of building when Bertie walks past (pause video at 2.50).. . All this snow fell in just one night ... drifts up to 6 feet in places around the village...and up to 15 feet in other parts of the country.... 2 weeks off school.. happy days.

I was 10 - best time ever! 2 weeks off school! Heaven. But we wore snorkel jackets back then, somebody would call your name, you'd turn around .. .and get a snowball right down the pipe.

Great video, thanks for the memory! I lived in Loughlinstown at the time & we had 6 foot of snow up against our front door, we lived beneath the Hospital at the time!

Ha, I think that's my Dad, Doug Beattie, giving the wave at 0.50 before heading off down Priory Road. He would have known Ted quite well. Great footage - I remember that snow well.

Hello, I'd love to include this in a documentary about the snow in 1982. How might I get in touch with you? Best wishes, Caroline

George Sturdy depends on where you live. Storm Emma was probably worse for some areas in the east like kildare and wexford with record snowfall
