What's funny is that the anime isn't trying to be groundbreaking or innovating with never-before-seen concepts and themes. It instead sticks to the basics and refine those basic aspects before it tries and tackle something new and fresh.
That's exactly it. The theme of the anime is so very familiar and yet so captivating. I mean we have the common western fantasy lore like the giants prowess, the evil step brother, the sinister devils and such living beneath the ground and a magic mirror. We are familiar with all of it in one way or another. It's the polish that makes the difference, so that we once again learn, that we do not yearn for "new" stories, but for "better crafted" stories.
I just realized, the art style, the way it's written, it's literally like a child's storybook being read by an adult. There's adult themes, but the story is simple enough, the art is simple enough, that a child can follow and identify that life's not so simple as black and white, but the actions and direction, the motivations for a character are what pushes people to do the things that they do. Man, if there was an anime I'd ever show my kid, it's probably Ousama Ranking because it so fucking masterfully crafts a world that feels real, despite the magic, but a compelling story of characters that aren't as simple as they look.
Fun fact, the author of the manga was initially trying to make a picture book for children (from a note at the end of Volume 2 of the manga, also mentioned at ANN interview). So yes, this is a story for children but also give us, the adult, rollercoaster of emotion. What a masterpiece.
I totally agree! I was just listening to a live stream by a Japanese singer I really like, and he also compared ousama ranking to an illustrated book with how soft the palette is, it's really wonderful how clean and pleasant this anime is
I watched this with my nephew expecting simple adventure story, but then hit by feels train. My 7 years old nephew understand the story and rooting for both Bojji and Daida. We love this show!
What first grabbed me was Queen Hiling, Boji's stepmother. At first, she was set up to be the typical evil stepmother. When actually, she's the Tsundere stepmom, and already holds the title for Best Mom in Anime. Now I watch scenes of Hiling showing love to Boji like a drug. That was just one of the many ways this anime subverted my expectations, which it has done at nearly every turn!
But it is not only her, their are a bunch of characters that are set up as if they are complete one dimensional good/bad guys, but then turnout to be the opposite or more reasenable personality of what was expected.
Honestly, I love how the series plays with expectations of who cares about Bojji and who doesn't in an authentic way that doesn't subert expectations for expectations sake. This is a SPOILER for like idk lets just say up until episode 7. We're introduced to Hiling and think she's evil when honestly, she's just suuuuuuuper protective of Bojji. She's blunt and rude, at least in the introduction, but she clearly knows that being king isn't to be taken lightly and honestly at that time Bojji wasn't fit for the job. On the flip side we find out that the king was going to take over Bojji's body and transfer his strength into it, on top of finding out that he basically screwed his future child who became Bojji in order to gather enough peace to protect the land that would become his kingdom. He was going to use Bojji which is why he wanted him to be king (though it's also probably because Bojji is the child of his first love as well). Both situations ended up being the complete opposite of how the character's were introduced and neither feel cheap or done just because plot twists are trendy.
@@MegaShinobi2011 Ya, but the plot twists in the show are done well. They aren't ham fisted, and so much of the plot, characters, and story driven actions are so fucking crisp and clean, so focused, that nothing ever feels wasted. You know how in anime there's a ton of filler shit like catering to fans with big tit shots? This anime doesn't waste it's time with shit like that and, instead, focuses everything into creating a wonderfully woven masterpiece of a story.
People who say this show looks bad are going to make anime completely unwatchable. This is literally the only TV anime I've ever seen that's so smooth it doesn't Judder on pan shots. The line art is so sharp and detailed compared to filtered crap mass produced today.
@@Talia_Vantas I honestly really miss the old refraction style of lighting they used in the 80's/90's. I understand why it's not worth doing anymore but sometimes it just looks so cool.
The thing with Bojji is that he wasn't "Born that way", his strength was stolen from him by his father and the whole reason he was born was for that reason. The fact that he keeps moving forward with a smile on his face even though nobody respects him is why im more emotionally invested in him than any other anime hero.
I would like to think that Bojji could still have been born deaf and mute even if his strength/potential/power (depends on translation) was not stolen from him. It's not like Bosse has extraordinary voice/hearing apart from being a literal giant iirc
@@AllTheArtsy That's a good point, Bosse was granted his new born child's strength to become the strongest. There is a possibility Bojji was going to be deaf/mute naturally. Like you said Bosse didn't get super hearing or anything it was just strength. If it was everything Bojji would probably just be an unmoving body. I now head cannon Bojji being naturally deaf/mute.
Bruh I decided to give this anime a try. I was with REALLY high expectations since I just finished Blue Period and Odd Taxi (which were god tier for me) and holly fking shoot did I just watch all 9 episodes in 1 night? Yes sir. This is a masterpiece.
You thought the anime for Blue Period was god tier????? It was an ok adaptation, but such a disappointment to me compared to the manga :(( if you havent already, def read the manga!
@@euphoriast6593 Yes I'm def reading it! Idk if it was a good adaptation, all I know is I loved it. I'm an artist and did studied Fine Arts so everything on this anime is relatable and inspirational on many levels to me 🖤
I watched all 8 episodes so far (that are released at the time) and I haven’t had a single moment where I was bored with any episode everyone was engaging
It's almost hard to discuss Ranking of Kings because (so far at least) I haven't found any flaws to speak of. It's just that well put together. Having a main character with a real life physical disability (being death/mute) is already a step up but, to have it handled so appropriately with accurate sign language and everything in an already amazing story, is nothing short of a masterpiece in my eyes.
I can nitpick very subjective flaw about it even. It's very petty and subjective, but i noticed the anime has a thing for flashbacks, i know full well it's necessary, but it's just so often. And that's probably it lol, the anime does a good job at everything else
Maybe kage can speak for you like he did boji the whole show and spare us from your garbage comment. Kidding, your a good guy. I'm just making a joke. But i hated the anime
I cried / shed a tear every episode so far. I usually don't recommend anime to people I know (different tastes, etc), but I'm on a mission to make everyone watch Ousama Ranking.
I relate 100%. Tears for every ep and my friends who watch anime have different tastes than me but I want everyone to watch ranking of kings because it is god tier
I especially like that the anime makes characters look like the most stereotypical one note characters but then have their character be the exact oppoisite of the cliche they normally would fall into. Example Spoilers: The evil stepmother is actually really kind The nice looking instructor is a huge asshole The mean/dark looking guard is actually respectful/kind The asshole brother (is still an asshole), but respects strength through hardlabor over power that is freely given.
@@TheMathtag Well he had orders from the King. Ain't following the orders of a King is called treason to one's country. He had to choose between the King and the Prince and he chose the King. Ain't gon blame him. He even tried to poison Bojji but Kage foiled it
Hiling is best mom. She isn't perfect, but she cares for her son and stepson. She is rude sometimes, and can get triggered easily, but still has that kindness. And I also just like all the other characters, that doesn't happen often that all characters are likeable, even with their flaws
It's the storytelling. It is so well made that I have seen zero fans discussing what are the kings and powerscaling them etc and instead they focus on what matters.. the history.. the misteries.. and how everyone loves Bojji and Hilling
The story managed to be convoluted and utterly slow at the same time. And impressively unimpressive combination. One of the anime I've ever seen that's for aure
As someone who has read all the available chapters in japanese as well as the anime, I can unequivocally state, the anime is a vast improvement to the manga. Other than the obvious improvements such as color, sound and animation, the anime script is so much better. If you read the manga, you will see that the mangaka has a very rough way of doing exposition, he tends to reiterate points he's established early on, and sometimes the way he moves b/w time scenes can be a bit jarring at times. Most of these issues are very well addressed in the anime making it much more concise without losing any of the substance from the manga. 10/10 would recommend.
Did you buy the manga to read? Or did you find it online somewhere which is free to read? If so, please let me know what website you used. I've been aching to read the manga rather than waiting for the weekly episodes.
That is because the mangaka used to be an office worker who quit in his 40s to start drawing manga, without any artistic background. This is his first artistic work so it's normal for it to have its lows. I absolutely respect the shit out of that man.
You know... I've gotta admit, the idea of a character with realistic flaws and having to deal with a world where those flaws get him looked down upon really appeal to me. Sure, seeing the character with the lack of superpowers rise up and prove people wrong (albeit gaining a superpower from someone else) is nice or the village pariah being able to become a respected and powerful leader. But seeing a character that I can clearly see and relate to in a sense is... honestly really nice. Bojji is realistically disabled like me (Autism) and trust me when I say this, I know what it's like to have people look down upon you. I also know what it's like to try and rise up to prove them wrong. So I honestly hope Bojji is able to rise above everyone else and become a king worth respecting just for the sake of getting a major win. Not just because 'Oh, that's his dream' or 'That's what he represents' but just because the boy should get his victory through effort and hardwork.
This show is a masterclass on writing, animation, and just overall storytelling. EVERY character has motivations/emotions that makes everything feel fleshed out and complex. Even the 'villains' are never simply being evil for the sake of evil.
This is one of the few entertainment pieces that broke me. That's a big thing for me, cuz I rarely cry when watching emotional stuff. It takes a lot for me to cry
What's amazing about it isn't trying to stand out just like cash grab anime were studio choose popular or “cool character design" that can be used to get some merchandise sells. WIT could have choose other popular manga but they chose this. This feels really like old animes where its more of an art/plot/story appreciation. Another “childlish" looking anime art style that once you thought it would be just a daily love and happy story just to found out it can consider as 18+ anime.
I couldn't have imagined it being as good as it is, but fuck me was I proven wrong. Not only that, but Queen Hiling is unironically my top #1 Waifu pick. Unlike most other common waifus, she feels like an actual human, albeit a bit exaggerated because of anime. I also like her Design a lot, it leaves an impression for sure
what this dude didn't mention is that Ousama Ranking didn't just start out as a little-known manga, it started out as a WEBCOMIC. Kind of like ONE's One-Punch Man and Mob Psycho 100
Honestly, for me the story telling, the world building, and the characters are all paced and placed exactly where they need to be. There's minor background the viewer understands as they continue to watch, but the important parts are never lost in translation at first glance from the narrative perspective so the viewer understands what's going on. I'm definitely taking notes! But the thing that caught me was not only the simplistic retro art style that feels so cozy and nostalgic, but this is the first time I've seen a protagonist with a disability where it's something that's acknowledged and interacted with realistically and not glossed over with some kind of power gain or suspension of disbelief. I'm mesmerized by the hand animation as the characters sign as they speak - something that I feel the simple art style does wonders to allow - because it's such a minor detail that's huge and often completely overlooked in other anime. Through it you realize how much it effects Bojji and creates this sense of vulnerability and attachment to his character and how fragile he seems...It's inspiring that Bojji himself is the first to remind everyone through his actions - even the viewers - that he's not fragile for having his own way of doing things. He doesn't need pity. Just a friend to join him on his journey. I cannot wait to watch the rest of this!
The animation is so smooth. It’s based on a manga and likely will adapt the first part or most of it. Daida despite his fathers wishes although Bojji... it’s just a simplistic style that resembles some time between the 70s to 90s. And such smooth Sakuga and facial expressions that you wouldn’t see in old anime. And the story is much darker than it appears. Also a lot of name puns
I feel like the artstyle is genuinelly refreshing, as it feels like many animes that come out now have very similar artstyles that make it hard for me to form an interest in them.
I really loved how nuanced every character was. All of them had their own reasons for acting the way they did and none of them are perfect. Literally there is no villain in this story just people reacting to things that happened to them.
When Bojji cried the first time, when his mom healed him and was always there to protect him, when his brother low-key cared for him, the scene when he was injured and kage was there, etc... Going really good.. ''一人ぼっちにはさせないでよー。。。'' Even the soundtrack's great! maaaannnn...
I would agree with you, if it wasn’t for the dogshit ending. Everyone forgiving Miranjo, the one who was the evil mastermind behind everything, including planned murder on children and pretty much torturing Daida, only for him to develop Stockholm syndrome and wanting to Marry a Woman who is over 20 years older than him is the shitiest ending of a Manga i have seen since the OG Attack on Titan
Every single character is relatable. They’re all going through some sort of moral or internal struggle that they have to deal with. It’s all just so well done
As someone who has grown up with a learning disability, it was nice to see a story where the parents isn't really all out bad. But ends up feeling they need to "protect" their child or finds it hard sometimes to believe in what potential they have because they've been told to expect less. That said even Hiling wasn't really fully aware of how much Boji had developed since her attention turned to Daida. That first scene feels excessively cruel first viewing, but if you go back - she at least understands that Boji should know the expectations of him but doesn't know he can read her lips when she's said the harshest thing she could ever say to his face (but knows enough to request it not be translated to Boji...)
Now that it's finished I can say. It is one of the most refreshing animes that has aired ever. It's childrens story book vibe and subversion of character traits is really refreshing and unique. The story telling and such is top tier and the animation in key moments are beautiful. It's on my personal and critical top 5 animes.
Thanks for this review. I haven't thought much about the animation style. What draws me to this anime is the story that all of us can easily relate to. The protagonist can easily pull the heartstrings of viewers as he struggles his way to the world that is full of betrayal, inequity, and prejudice, which, all of us somehow experience at certain moments in our lives. But at the same time he finds a few who believes in him and treats him with dignity, respect and love. To a lesser or greater degree, there's a little Boji in all of us who painfully wants to be loved and treated right. Hang in there buddy. No matter what happens, we can make it through. 🙂
Honestly I just kinda gave the show a shot after hearing good things from friends and i can genuinely say its a show that is worth the time. I must say the two things the show has done that has me hooked is 1) everything it felt like it was setting up in the beginning honestly has nothing to do with story that ends up being told, it builds your expectations towards one way and then after one particular episode and scene it flips all of it on its head and you never really know where its going to go from that point and 2) the world this show takes place in is just so interesting. there's essentially no explanation to the rules or lore of this world and its honestly one of my favorite parts. It requires you too pay attention to the little details and hope you're able to piece together certain stories by yourself and I love that. The world is so vast and has so much story left to tell it feels like. I cant really recommend this show enough its truly amazing
I need to catch up with the show again, but after watching some of this show I was able to form a solid opinion. Bojii is by all traditional means and systems a complete failure, he is physically weak and frail. And considering he is a giant, laughably small. But all that adversity created such a vibrant and beautiful soul. Sure he cant beat you in a power battle, but in speed and precision Bojii just looks effortless and untouchable. And its well known that all the strength and power in the world is useless if you can not land a blow on your opponent. His spirit is kind and gentle, but when needed he stands tall as he needs be and you are subtly reminded this is not a boy THIS IS A GIANT. He WILL rise up. And when he does so, you feel a sense of pride for he is the one you said is worthy of being called the strongest king.
It really breaks any expectations! Like I had initially expected this anime to be a comedy and pretty much a kids show but I never expected such a deep and intriguing plot!! My fave anime right now for sure!
Not me looking up reviews because I decided to binge this in a night and now I'm chasing the high from the emotional roller coaster this show put me through....
The thing is, They don't think Bojji is fit to be king, but they want him to remain safe from harm. They also wanted bojji to know himself that he isn't fit to be king so they had to be a little rough with him
This show beats expectations at every turn and leaves the viewer stunned every time. op and ed being so top notch doesn’t help it’s dark horse incognito status. Best of the season hands down.
Great review, good puns, no intro, no commercials, no "SUBSCRIBE AND SMASH THAT LIKE BUTTON" and more importantly, excellent edition and sound quality. You've got a new fan, my friend.
I believe what makes this particular anime so good is the authors and studio’s ability to display and express emotion. The environment, body and facial expressions quickly lets the audience empathize with each character, especially bojji. All of us cried on episode 2. All of us cheered on episode 3. All of us grew upset with the betrayal. It keeps getting better and better, and all of us feel like children again by just watching Bojji triumph
This was an extremely well-done video that makes me want to watch Ranking of Kings, which I'm going to do tomorrow. But, I have to point out that "emphasize" and "empathize" are two different words that mean vastly different things. Everyone has words like that! Subscribed, and keep up the good work!
I watched the first episode during my lunch break today after watching this video. Man am I glad I did that. I'm hooked after the first episode. And now I get to binge watch the rest tonight!
dude i just watched the latest episode and the buildup and mystery and plot twists just goosebumps everytime. very exceptional storytelling and animation and storyboarding indeed unexpectedly sophisticated. my favorite if not for 86 2nd season. man i feel the emotion so much i feel so sorry for daida. his va is really amazing. it frustrates me that assassin old brat more popular
This anime was so refreshing, it reminded me of Durarara in a way, every character has like 50 backstories and development arcs, and there's so many of them. Who ever wrote the story is really good at developing their characters and shaping the story based on how they develop/act, rather than what most writers make the mistake to do, which is shape the characters to fit into a specific story that they want to happen in a specific way. The Witcher netflix show is a prime example of what bad writing does, they have the books to base their scripts on, yet they hired some horrible writers who wanna rewrite what made The Witcher into a masterpiece, and then we end up with quotes from that dumb lady Lauren something "We wanted someone to die in this episode, so we had to change how some characters acted to make it happen". Also a pretty good indicator as to why Anime is taking over, while Hollywood is going downhill. It's hard to have such good material and screw it up, like Game of Thrones did in the last few seasons, and so many other shows. Anime does it too (Tokyo Ghoul), but they realize that sticking to the original story is usually a good thing, when the original story is what was popular in the first place.
I've referred to Ousama Ranking multiple times as a once-in-a-year anime. But now I realise, it's a once-in-three-years anime, the kind that deserves to be watched by everyone, whether you're a newcomer to anime or a veteran. It's that good-good.
Parent characters are so underrated. A lot of times they're either dead before the story begins, purely good, or purely bad and aren't really treated as actual people or allowed to be characters with arcs. I like how both Hilling and Bosse love Bojji and Daida, yet are still flawed and hurt them in ways they didn't mean to, which is true of most parents. Hilling was initially set up to be the evil stepmom archetype who wants her blood son to usurp the throne, but we learn that she does really love Bojji as her own. She just doesn't believe in him because of his disabilities and set up Daida as king to protect Bojji from the responsibility. Which is something that hurt Bojji, but it's a mindset a lot of parents of disabled children have. Bosse is initially set up as the caring father who believed in Bojji before his death. But then it's revealed that he knowingly sacrificed his son for power, without realizing the weight of his actions until he was born. He's the reason Bojji is so weak and became that caring father figure out of guilt. And when he's resurrected in Daida's body, he still seems guilty about sacrificing another son. But what he plans to do about it is still unclear.
probably 10 minutes of bojji going to back to bosse kingdom, and the another 10 minutes of daida on the void talking with kid miranjo (that i'm honestly more excited for)
I like Bojji so much because I can definitely relate to how he feels, I don't often cry watching anime, so I was surprised I teared up when Bojji was crying from feeling powerless and frustrated because I would respond like that in situations where I feel like the world was against me, but Bojji doesn't let that keep him down and keeps moving forward which I should definitely learn from
This anime is just a nice fresh air it's not overly fanservice and the style is a very welcomed simplicity that brings me back to when more was hand done. I also love the color pallete its so calming yet still expressive. This anime is just what we needed for a while.
I was kinda judgemental coz of its animation when the trailer came out, but when it aired, not just i was amazed by it, it also make me cry like i was a baby looking for milk. While everyone was hyped of takt.op, demon slayer, my dress up darling, attack on titan coz of it's superb animation, still ranking of kings was the anime that im really looking forward to watch every week.
This show is so damn good! I legit fucking balled after the duel with diada and he was all battered up trying his hardest to lift the sword out of frustration. Such an amazing show
Man such a nice video now whenever I will ask someone to watch Ousama Ranking I just simply forward this video to them couldn't have been explained better. And Bojji is the strongest Man #8
Honestly I stopped watching anime for a while but Ousama Ranking just reignited my love for it, it's definitely one of the best anime I've seen in recent years and each episode just gets better and better and I honestly can't wait for more.
I just hoped this anime won't created such fanatic and toxic fandoms which many so-called "masterpiece" animes have made, and if there is second season it will not disappoint everyone (like, you know) and ending don't be disappointing
I absolutely loved the show. It may looked simple and perhaps cartoony compared to a typical anime, but it is visually pleasing. And I love the character of Boji, who I relate as a deaf person. He had people talk down on him, just as I did before. And the recent episode nearly had me in tears, as Boji proved himself and got the respect he deserved. A wonderfully crafted show.
The audience bursting into applause for Boji gave me goosebumps and I wish it was recorded. Side note, clips from some boji UA-cam channel dropped into my recommended and blew my mind with how well it was animated, how cute it was, and the little things I could grasp from these characters’ relationships. I’m sure, that for most people, having something innocently drop into your feed and quickly become a beloved obsession is rare. I’m so onboard for this anime.
Even at the first episode, I was literally screaming and cheering for bojji when he was dodging daidas attack, I was so in love with bojji even from the first few moments, I really want bojji to achieve his goal
Ranking of kings is about the story, its what I love about anime. Anime is about the story, it's about the perspective related to the viewer through the art. It shows a life instead of an event.
This anime is so well put together and feels very wholesome. You can really tell how much work was put in by the flow of the anime, that just blinking while watching it is hard to do. You just don't want to miss a second of it simply because it is that good. The whole story itself is something heart warming in all, don't want to spoil it for anyone but just go watch it. This is the best anime of Fall 2021 hands down nothing comes close to it.
The way it sticks to the tropes yet subtly challenges them by giving real nuance to each character is incredible. The second you see a familiar pattern, you get to see the characters coming to grips with what they are doing/experiencing. When Bojji's brother was going to drink his father's slurry; when Hiling refused Boji's Journey; When that one person betrayed Bojji and had a mental breakdown for it, When the snake man took Kage away... When the King realizes he is alive. Everytime the slope is obvious, it oozes trope. Everytime there is a twist that enhances the Characters and the plot. It makes it so understandable, tangible... So HUMAN! It is an awesome story in and of itself. Add to that the production, animation & pacing mastery of WIT and it's a done deal. You may not like the style, but you absolutely can't deny that this show knocked it out of the park on every aspect.
This is why I have so much faith in WIT Studio, they keep killing it with every adaptation. I just hope they get the financial issues worked out because anime as a whole needs them to stick around and flourish.
The most peculiar thing with Ousama Ranking is that I have only positive feelings for every single character of the show. (Possible Spoilers up to Ep10) Domas, Daida, Bosse, I didn't despise them, even at their worst. The creators made me want to see them get redeemed and be happy, not to look like bitches and getting their ass kicked because they betrayed Bojji. After Episode 10 I believe they might also make me like the Mirror too. A show full of compassion and kindness.
All things aside, this video was awesome. I'm honestly surprised you don't have that many subscribers. This entire video's production quality was through the roof.
Oh my Roxy this is a banger of a video. Everything is on point and it's fucking hilarious 😂 Also will you do a video on the Heike Story? The anime just ended and people are missing out on probably one of the best shows of the year
At first I was unsure about this show, but having started it I'm happy I gave it a shot. The line work honestly reminds me of the DBS Broly movie sometimes, with the intentionally uneven thickness of the lines and the pencil drawn effect. Plus the shading/lighting is a lot more pleasing to look at than a lot of anime and western cartoons, and the actual animation is really smooth when we get to see Bojji dodge or Dorche pummel some monsters. If using this kind of art style is what lets us have smoother animation and more expressive characters, without having to spend a small fortune each season like Demon Slayer (not to bash them, but goddamn that must cost a lot to make), I'm all for it.
What's funny is that the anime isn't trying to be groundbreaking or innovating with never-before-seen concepts and themes. It instead sticks to the basics and refine those basic aspects before it tries and tackle something new and fresh.
Yeah. Its crazy how almost the entire anime is sakuga, but your average viewer is not likely to notice or appreciate beause its just so baked in.
It's just nostalgic
well done politics, loyalty, emotions are their, i ask for nothing more

@@MegaShinobi2011 the plot is very subtle to our stereotypical expectations. Well done
Must be newer fans and watchers, because after more than 10 years I'm so tired of seeing the same style of animation and design everywhere

I identify with Bojji so much due to my disability. Love this kid. I cried so much every time he cried.
We must protect him with our lives
@@Akezura I won't, but ill cheer you guys on
I couldn't stop crying in the first 3 episodes because of how cute and sad it was to me
If he cries, we cry. When bojji smiles, we smile.
I hate bojji and the stupid noises he makes.

I've been saving Odd Taxi for Christmas break. I hope I like it.

You thought the anime for Blue Period was god tier????? It was an ok adaptation, but such a disappointment to me compared to the manga :(( if you havent already, def read the manga!

Yes, this year is too amazing to me with Odd Taxi and this Gigachad King.
I watched all 8 episodes so far (that are released at the time) and I haven’t had a single moment where I was bored with any episode everyone was engaging
You should read the manga. And I have a major spoiler that ------
@@hori5810 where can i read the manga?
I used to hate this show at first, but then I asked myself why I kept watching it. Then it hit me, I actually enjoyed the show xD
I cried just 5min in ep 1 and continued 😭
Where can i read the manga??
It's almost hard to discuss Ranking of Kings because (so far at least) I haven't found any flaws to speak of. It's just that well put together. Having a main character with a real life physical disability (being death/mute) is already a step up but, to have it handled so appropriately with accurate sign language and everything in an already amazing story, is nothing short of a masterpiece in my eyes.
Deaf not death.
wtf death xD
yea ive heard death is pretty fatal
Ehh it have one but just me
The many many many MANY MANY plot twist to the character
I can nitpick very subjective flaw about it even. It's very petty and subjective, but i noticed the anime has a thing for flashbacks, i know full well it's necessary, but it's just so often. And that's probably it lol, the anime does a good job at everything else
Im proud of my instinct giving this anime a chance. Im already in the process of adopting bojji and kage
Same
same, first few episodes and its already making people cry. Its so good
Honestly same I’m constantly telling friends about it like a mosquito I can’t help it
I especially like that the anime makes characters look like the most stereotypical one note characters but then have their character be the exact oppoisite of the cliche they normally would fall into.
Example Spoilers:
The evil stepmother is actually really kind
The nice looking instructor is a huge asshole
The mean/dark looking guard is actually respectful/kind
The asshole brother (is still an asshole), but respects strength through hardlabor over power that is freely given.
This is exactly what i liked the most about this anime (along with the wholesomeness of bojji)
I get the feeling Bojji is going to save Daida
Domas ain't an asshole though
@@animeoniichan117 yes he is

@@TheMathtag Well he had orders from the King. Ain't following the orders of a King is called treason to one's country. He had to choose between the King and the Prince and he chose the King. Ain't gon blame him. He even tried to poison Bojji but Kage foiled it
Hiling is best mom.
She isn't perfect, but she cares for her son and stepson. She is rude sometimes, and can get triggered easily, but still has that kindness.
And I also just like all the other characters, that doesn't happen often that all characters are likeable, even with their flaws
It's the storytelling. It is so well made that I have seen zero fans discussing what are the kings and powerscaling them etc and instead they focus on what matters.. the history.. the misteries.. and how everyone loves Bojji and Hilling
ngl the story is the weakest part still a great show tho
10/10 would recommend.
does the manga have an ending? i love this show so much and i'm so curious how it's gonna end.
@@LovelyMotokochan It's still ongoing, but the current story(arc) ended recently. I suspect the 24 episodes that are being animated will cover it.
Did you buy the manga to read? Or did you find it online somewhere which is free to read? If so, please let me know what website you used. I've been aching to read the manga rather than waiting for the weekly episodes.
@@fulltimehololivestan I already told you what to google.
That is because the mangaka used to be an office worker who quit in his 40s to start drawing manga, without any artistic background. This is his first artistic work so it's normal for it to have its lows. I absolutely respect the shit out of that man.
Another gem that 2021 has given us, possibly the shiniest one
I know this is an old comment but this comment really encapsulates what i enjoy in media.
This show is a masterclass on writing, animation, and just overall storytelling. EVERY character has motivations/emotions that makes everything feel fleshed out and complex. Even the 'villains' are never simply being evil for the sake of evil.
This series also knows how to be wholesome yet surprisingly dark.
Very few anime could make me cry but this one made me cry like a little baby by episode two.
Episode two had me frickin balling

When you need more Ousama Ranking content so bad you end up watching random UA-cam videos about it.
same
what this dude didn't mention is that Ousama Ranking didn't just start out as a little-known manga, it started out as a WEBCOMIC.
I cried like a baby already in the first episode 🙈
I've been enjoying this show so much glad to see everybody else is too. Great video.
when bojji says "aa aaauuuveee vuuuu", oh GOD 😭❤️🥺
easily the best anime this season, I think it might be my anime of the year
Now that it's finished I can say. It is one of the most refreshing animes that has aired ever. It's childrens story book vibe and subversion of character traits is really refreshing and unique. The story telling and such is top tier and the animation in key moments are beautiful. It's on my personal and critical top 5 animes.
Finally someone talking about
OUSAMA BIN RANKING.
☝️
What I like about this anime is, every character have 2 sides of them.

Simply the way the charaters and the story is presented to us is fantastic
I'm only at episode 2 and I'm legit crying like a baby 😭 I've seen a lot of sad animes before and I haven't cried at all but this?! MENTAL BREAKDOWN
But dud u read the manga
I've referred to Ousama Ranking multiple times as a once-in-a-year anime. But now I realise, it's a once-in-three-years anime, the kind that deserves to be watched by everyone, whether you're a newcomer to anime or a veteran. It's that good-good.
the anime stopped at chatper 155 and nothing is yet translated past chapter 60, this will be painfull to wait
But what he plans to do about it is still unclear.
probably 10 minutes of bojji going to back to bosse kingdom, and the another 10 minutes of daida on the void talking with kid miranjo (that i'm honestly more excited for)
Yeah, I'm truly interested on how's Bosse gonna act cause he seems uninterested and just going with what miranjo wanted
The RE:Zero scene when he encounter his parents is so strong, you're right parent characters are underrated
vinland saga put a huge impact on me when thorfinns father died in the first ep made me tear up not sure what youre talking about lol
This is spoiler, you sshould add spoiler alert at first for who havent watched. Why bojji is so weak is a spoiled here
I like Bojji so much because I can definitely relate to how he feels, I don't often cry watching anime, so I was surprised I teared up when Bojji was crying from feeling powerless and frustrated because I would respond like that in situations where I feel like the world was against me, but Bojji doesn't let that keep him down and keeps moving forward which I should definitely learn from
It's a crime how underrated this anime is. People hyping for AOT while I search for hidden gems like this.
=-D
I love how the show keeps on tossing in moments that completely change the way I feel about characters.
Such an amazing show
the amount of joy I (someone who is hard of hearing) have seeing bojji is completely unable to be understated. He's the Main Character and I love him.
*Empathize
Great video. This was the anime I most looked forward to each week this year. I dream of a season 2.
Hey this is some really good content. You deserve way more than only a few 100 or even a few thousand views.
How funny a show about kings trying to climb the rankings Itself climbs the ranks in the anime listing quickly
I'm happy it's getting attention and i hope this is just the beginning
I just hoped this anime won't created such fanatic and toxic fandoms which many so-called "masterpiece" animes have made, and if there is second season it will not disappoint everyone (like, you know) and ending don't be disappointing
I absolutely loved the show. It may looked simple and perhaps cartoony compared to a typical anime, but it is visually pleasing.
And I love the character of Boji, who I relate as a deaf person. He had people talk down on him, just as I did before.
And the recent episode nearly had me in tears, as Boji proved himself and got the respect he deserved.
A wonderfully crafted show.
i love this anime because of its unique twists
My theory is that Bojji will use his speed to evade attacks while carrying or having kage on his back which will be the offense.
bojji is learning using fencing sword, which support his strength, speed, and still sharp enough to cut something.
I can imagine bojji holding kage like a sword but kage's the one who swings lmao
Ranking of kings is about the story, its what I love about anime.
Anime is about the story, it's about the perspective related to the viewer through the art.
It shows a life instead of an event.
This mfkin anime made me cry every episode. I love it.
This anime's animation is the best of this season imo
This anime deserves all the awards it gets and will get.
This animes will be a classic. The story telling is epic!
This is the first anime since Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood that I feel I could recommend to anybody on earth with no real caveats.
You know the anime is good when you feel like the episodes last 8 minutes :")
This is easily one of my favourite anime no doubt , even if it's ongoing I love it
The way it sticks to the tropes yet subtly challenges them by giving real nuance to each character is incredible.
When Daida drank the slurpee, I remembered Eren eating his dad. So sad...
Even in his another life he eats his father hm 😔
This is why I have so much faith in WIT Studio, they keep killing it with every adaptation. I just hope they get the financial issues worked out because anime as a whole needs them to stick around and flourish.
The most peculiar thing with Ousama Ranking is that I have only positive feelings for every single character of the show.
(Possible Spoilers up to Ep10)
Domas, Daida, Bosse, I didn't despise them, even at their worst. The creators made me want to see them get redeemed and be happy, not to look like bitches and getting their ass kicked because they betrayed Bojji. After Episode 10 I believe they might also make me like the Mirror too. A show full of compassion and kindness.
I cried to every single episode 😭😭😭 you know when you cried on something its good😭😭💖💖💖💖
It has a good flow like you don’t have to get to a 100 episode to find out what happen in like episode 2.
All things aside, this video was awesome. I'm honestly surprised you don't have that many subscribers. This entire video's production quality was through the roof.
Oh my Roxy this is a banger of a video. Everything is on point and it's fucking hilarious 😂
Also will you do a video on the Heike Story? The anime just ended and people are missing out on probably one of the best shows of the year
"Oh my Roxy" LMAO
Ah I see, Roxism at its finest ;)
