I liked the Samsung Galaxy A54 from the beginning, but I'm pleased to see it's done well over the last year. In this follow up review, I'll talk about the updates and why you'd still want to buy one new in 2024.

Despite all the hate, the Galaxy A54 is holding up well!
It's mostly hated, as usual, by keyboard warriors that have never laid hands on one.
it's very bad on my side. It has only been 1 year and my battery is in bad condition. Extreme battery drain, constantly overheating, utra laggy. It says in diagnostics that my battery is in bad condition😢 I only use youtube and netflix but it only lasts 4 hours. my a50s lasts longer😢😢😢
dude it's not hate, it's common sense coming out loudly
@@nikose34 If you haven't got one or used one mate, your opinion is meaningless..
@@nikose34 so you've used it and didn't like it?
I can only confirm all of this. I have been using the A54 intensively every day for more than a year now. And since the update to OneUI6.1 it has been running 99% smoothly. I play games with it without any problems - even if it's not its strong point. But for RR3, for example, it's easily enough. But what amazes me most is how good it is once you're in the usual applications in everyday life (YT, Insta, Amazon, Netflix, etc.). There is no difference to any flagship. In addition, the S24 series is identical in design and with my silicone case you can't see any difference and it is well protected. The people who are badmouthing the A54 have never owned one themselves and are complaining about the processor. However, I have found that not only does it work well, but it never gets as hot as some Snapdragons. And anyone who believes this nonsense about things slowing down over time has no idea anyway. The 1380 was brand new last year and Samsung has only gradually adapted the software to it - to the delight of the people who are now buying an A35.
Enjoying my A54 as my daily driver.
Me too
Mee too
Me to
The same bs people used to say about the A54 they are now saying about the A55😅
Just got my A54 today, the 256GB/8GB one.
It's really good on my opinion
After 1 day?
I'm here to tell everyone. I had the Samsung Galaxy a54 5g and upgraded to the base model s23 and honestly after the One UI 6.1 update this s23 glitches, it makes notification sounds when i have no messages, calls, etc, while playing videos like prime video, netflix, basically streami f services it plays in slow motion for some reason then i have to pause it or swipe the notification panel down then up and it stops it for about 5 minutes or so. My point is, is that just because the a54 is cheaper does not mean that its less of a phone. The only thing the a54 is missing is a couple of features, aluminum frame. I would trade this s23 back for an a54 any day of the week. I didnt have this many problems with the a54 at all
Loving my a54 🤍 a fab phone
I've been using the a54 for 8 months now, it is still working quite well
A54 user here, and I absolutely love the phone!
Just don't update the ui
@@Wshm10 why not? does that ruin performance?
@xo_melo The interface looks ugly, some faced increased battery consumption and slower response rate
@Wshm10 my battery has gotten a bit worse but it'll get me to 7 or 8pm which I'm home from college by then so I'm fine with that samsing just need to improve the battery life a bit
I have an A54 and an S23 Uktra.. Its no S23 Ultra, but its more than good enough for the majority of non techies that must have the latest and greatest.
Came from a 13 mini and have to say its a breath of fresh air. The mini had a serious issue with not lasting. I always had to carry a charger, with the a54 i have not had that issue. I restart my phone weekly to do the battery optimization and app optimization. 512 sd card inserted and also have google storage so phone does not get full and busy with apps. Samsung music being free and downloading my music has also been great vs paying for apple music monthly. Not being locked into ios and able to customize my phone the way i want just works. I switched all of my apple products for samsung and wow just having all of my stuff on my other devices quickly vs using airdrop its been a godsend.
What I love about this channel, although I may not agree with you on every point I get value from each video and I can appreciate where you're point of view. Thanks Steve,
It's nice to be able to use a phone that feels as premium as this without a case because of the bezels and the low price point. Everyone always hates on the bezels, but they should try using a phone that doesn't have bezels without a case. They're going to get accidental screen presses all the time. I agree that the Android 14 made it better. It really feels like a flagship while doing everyday tasks. That being said, I wouldn't recommend it for gaming or video editing. It also occasionally lags during random times. Better battery life, a better processor, and a headphone jack would make this the ideal midrange smartphone. The A54 is a great phone, but not perfect. The A34 on the other hand doesn't have a lot of the issues that this phone has so that's probably the best A series phone when you take price into consideration in my opinion. The A54 is great for the average consumer who wants the look and feel of a flagship so it might be the ideal phone for some people. It's not the ideal phone for me though.
Edit: I've actually been using this as my daily driver for a week now and I'm not getting any lags or stutters that I got with previous versions of Android. It looks like they finally optimized the Exynos processor after all of these updates.
They nailed it with the A52s 5G. I don't get why they had to remove the headphone jack on a midrange.
@@avatarspirit57They were slowly gutting out the A series for quite some time. No more A73 successor and jack is gone starting from A53. Let's just assume sdcard will be next.
Samsung has been trying for quite some time to make sd cards and headphone jack look like poor people's features as their combo can only be seen on lame low end A series.
planning to buy A54 this week
im buying one soon in the summer
Just bought it online , price cut at 45%
I've gotten this phone since release, day one. Have not had a single issue or any complaint, whatsoever! Battery holds a decent charge, display is really nice, speakers are nice, cameras are pretty good too, just overall loved it so far.
A54 is awesome. Thanks for your reviews. Helped me to make the initial choice.
I've had my A54 since August 2023 and still works great
Does anyone know what "other files" is when you click on manage storage? I have 8 GB of "other files" and for some reason that number keeps going up. I intentionally bought this phone for the SD card slot because I know that the system and apps take up a lot of storage. I also have a lot of pictures and videos which are all on my SD card. Not sure why my my phone is automatically saving things to the internal storage despite me not having a lot of apps. I wish I knew what the "other files" are so I can delete them and clear up storage.
I have this phone ,it has 4 years upgrade, and I'll keep mine till 2026 and use it more then my s22 ultra till I get the s25 ultra next year.
It is a good phone. Have had it for exactly a year and some days. Only wear on the phone is near the USB-C port for the charger, the audio is what's surprising. It fills the living room, doesn't sound drowned out.
I bought two a54s 5 days ago and on both of them I notice that they have a slightly grainy display, given that I'm coming from an LCD, it's the first time I'm using an AMOLED, but it's something I noticed immediately and I don't understand why no one talks about it in the reviews. Is it a factory defect or is it normal?
I have one coming in a couple of days! Granted, I am going back to Android after yearssss of apple and I'm coming from an iPhone12 but the battery on this thing is terrible and this looked to be the best phone to get that actually looked like it would be the same and better in some aspects. Can't wait and thanks for these reviews!
Mine A54 is still on One UI 5.1 and Android 13 😢
Even my Secure floder is not working
I just upgraded from the A53 and I ain't gonna lie, I really love this phone. Its display and quality for $400 is really good. I don't really need a flagship, just something decent that'll let me scroll my social media and make my important calls.
Definitely a nice upgrade from the A53! Better performance for sure.
I have A54 too. And one UI 5.1 was running better on my device because in one UI 6, Animations run with a bit delay and I don't know why
This phone is still, and i think will be, one of the best when the price stays under the release price.
I‘d really love to see you taking a spin with the Nothing Phone 2a, just got it and i‘m both, amazed and a lil confused by it, maybe you have something to say about that phone since it‘s also a solid budget/midrange device tho :D
In my first few weeks of purchase this phone used to.get hot but after using it more and the phone learnt the usage patterns theres no heating and its super smooth no lag and no issues
I love this device lol ... i use it everyday... i'm gonna wait another year for A56 and see if it's worth upgrading and if not i probably keep it another year... i don't see the point in me upgrading to A55 it's really nothing special to me and I mean i'm a very basic user ... some reddit here and there , web browsering i play music on it the most lol and i use the phone as a phone and text people oh i do discord and also other social media, but honestly thats about it.. it runs well the 6gb to me is plenty since i dont run much on it at a time i play Final fantasy games on it and it works quite well idk... i honestly can say this A54 been of the best android phone i had since my sony xperia 10 mach III as i really love that phone as welll, but this A54 gives me that vibe and its a solid phone.
Does your have overheating issues? I want to buy it but I keep reading that it overheats by A LOT🤔
@@Mosestylez i went back on my iphone 14... works great im sticking with apple phones.
@@CRYPTiCEXiLE dam... Why?😮
Wasn't it any good? It was the best according to you, what happened?😅😜
Well, I'm sending this comment using my A54. I've used this phone for the past 11 months and all I can say is, that it's been a great all around phone. Yes, for the first 2 or 3 months I did get a stutter and a bit of a lag here and there but after that specially after the 6.0 update it's been awesome. Still got 3 OS updates and 4 security updates to go. I'm really happy with this phone and I do recommend it to anyone looking for a good phone that will keep on rollin for years to come! 👍🏽💯
Does your have overheating issues? I want to buy it but I keep reading that it overheats by A LOT🤔
@@Mosestylez It did get a bit warm a couple of times the first couple of months, but nothing to serious. Like I said before in my previous comment, after the 6.0 update it's been great. It's now on the 6.1 update and running awesome. Hope you decide to get it and hope you have a positive experience with it! (SAMSUNG GALAXY A54 5G AWESOME GRAPHITE) (FYI) Remember it's a mid-range phone not a flagship. So you get mid-range specs, but still a very capable phone! Hope this helps you on your final decision! 👍🏼💯
@@Mosestylez Alot of positive comments about the A54 5G in this post. I forgot to mention that my daughter has the A54 5G as well and she loves it & I do too! 👍🏽💯
The A54 has been a solid backup device for me. The exynos processor has never been a issue for me. Yeah it doesn't open apps as Quick as My flagship phone but I can live with that
Is it doing fine after a year of usage?
That's exactly the color of my current A54. Lime.
i have an a54 as a daily driver for 3 months now. the phone was a "gift" from my cell provider for signing the contract every2 years. it's use was mostly wifi enabled pda music player etc. my daily driver was an iphone 13 mini as a calls and text device.. i love small smartphones and at the time being i had thart device.. after an accident with the iphone i moved everything to the samsung. the phone works mainly on wifi and 4g when outside and need maps. the fucking battery drains like crazy! i am below average i nternet user but this shit needs a plug until the end of the day. the iphone was working 24/7 with calls and never had an issue with the battery. but this thing does.
Factory reset it , this phone is having one of the best battery backup
Is it better to buy Galaxy A54 or Xiaomi Redmi Note 13 Pro 5G?
Should I get this phone or s21?
I bought this on May 10 for only $200 flash sale.. it is a steal for me since the regular price ranges from $400-$450.
Year later mine still feels brand new never sluggish and I use it a lot with UA-cam ,BIGO ,TikTok etc .i use it more than I do my iPhone 14 Pro Max
I bought an A54 8gb/256gb today on Amazon and I'm looking forward to receiving it.
after 5 years with my a50, the battery is starting to be unusable and the charging port is not working very well, and im gonna upgrate to the a54 for around 300 dollars
I just got it for $100 and it will unlock in 2 months. Well worth. I'm coming from a Moto E 2020. So it will be a great upgrade and will last me years. You can't go wrong for $100 as you will not find anything else in this price range that unlocks in 2 months, amazing price to performance. lol
the only downside of this phone is how wide it is, but for what it is, it's a beautiful device, i wished i picked white/cyan variant, bcs black gets dull after a while
Watching on A54, it is my first exynose
Just ordered today through mint mobile
Lowest i’ve seen of this A54 is around $190 used 😊
Does this phone stutters? I never had a midrange phone before and considering to buy one (A55) coming from an iPhone 11.
I'd say no but the problem is unlike iOS, apps on android has issues with optimization no matter what phone you use flagship or midrange if it's not well-known developers have no interest to fix issues within apps and this applies for most popular apps too. Sometimes they send an update and it is ruining the experience until another update. This is tiring if you're heavy in tech, each year a major OS update comes and you wait for your favorite apps to update. But overall, no problem.
@@aydogank45 thanks for this info. I am refusing to buy high end devices for it’s price tag if i can have a similar user experience anyway.
@@JowellBautista same goes for me, a phone is a tool. as long as does the job specs and features are just the gimmicks that they'll sell to you.
Yep, it’s been a great phone for me too!
Definately a great value phone! The Motorola Thinkphone (which is superb w/ A14 right now) is the only phone that edges it out in value.
Agreed! Loving my ThinkPhone (along with my Samsung A54).
I would get a thinkphone before any A series. However the thinkphone isn't discounted everywhere. Also it may lose features by the carriers as it's not white-list like the A54. Features like wifi calling.
I've been gaming everyday on this A54, Call of Duty Mobile on High Graphics with Very High frame rate, and it doesnt lag at all. Two games in and it only dropped 10 percent. Its a solid phone for the price.
I switched over from the iPhone 13, because I wanted better battery life but I didnt want to buy the new iPhone 15 cos of its price.
you play any other "high demand" games? if so how does it perform on em?
@@xo_melo I have played Mobile Legends, very similar to League of Legends. It runs fine on Medium High settings but anything above that and the phone starts to struggle.
I have not tried genshin impact, but some reviewers say it runs okay on medium settings.
Looking to upgrade from my Galaxy A50. I was looking at getting an S23 but now seeing this, it doesnt seem worth it over just getting this A54. Even for the $450 it seems worth it to me
It absolutely doesnt, i've had more than 2 S23's in my hand for more than 3 months and my brother is rocking an A54, its a beast and it performs better than S23 especially in UI system and menus, the animations on OneUI 6.1 which is now available on A54 are running smoother than on the S23, its crazy i've sold my last S23 to buy a A54
Being a Samsung user since 2020 i can assure Samsung A series phones get better over the time and holds its smoothness. My 2 year old A52s runs like butter. I have doubts whether any Chinese midranger could hold itself over the time despite having a superior chipset compared to exynos.
Does this phone have overheating issues? I want to buy it but I keep reading that it overheats by A LOT🤔
Currently texting you with one, it's summer time where I am with highs of 45 and it gets warm on the occasion but nothing serious, battery life is superb..
Just got galaxy a54 5g phone have had for three weeks now
I put the S23 Fe default wallpaper on the A54, and people called me i have the S23 😂
☠️
Nice 💯💯💯
Mine is a52s 5g is still smooth at Android 14 update
if I buy this will I regret it Steve or go for pixel
Which pixel? I don’t think you will regret it.
I want to take great pictures Pixel 6a or s24
@@akeemstayfit No joke no BS get the pixel 6a those cameras are freaking awesome!
Watching this on an a54
I will buy it today🎉
I got a brand new one for my wife at 242 US$ a week ago.
Remember, the A54 was so good in 2023, that Samsung doesn't want to sell it's successor in the USA for 2024 because the A54 took away sales from an "S" series midrange flagship (S23 FE).
A54 is nice. Or should I say was? I'm still on 5.1 can't say anything bad but I feel sorry for those who update their phones to One UI 6. Clearly one update ruined all reputation of the phone. Every time I look at Reddit I see another complain. Bugs bugs bugs, everywhere. Why Samsung did this, don't know. I have lost my trust, because it's the One UI why I go for a Samsung in the first place. I will do another comment once I finish the video but yes, I love my A54. ❤
lol. I have just watched the video and surprised 😅 I really didn't expect the praising about the update.
I have it from 20 days, it's a great phone for me. Good camera and smooth gaming. For $300 (128/8gb)
The only negative is that there is no video stabilization at 60fps. The best quality video you can't use while moving. But 30 fps UHD is still a good quality video too and stabilization is good.
Glad you are enjoying it!
This or the A35?
Definitely this
Heating issue😢
Any tips?
Battery drain fast
Don't forget FE season.
The a54 performance is good 80% of the time, but 20% of the time, it's really bad. Chinese phones are smoother for the same price. Good camera and one ui is great except for the weird stutters. Really good screen and hardware. I would not game on. 7/10 phone
just buy a s22
