  • The Negro Soldier is a 1944 documentary created by the United States Army during World War II.[1] The film was produced by Frank Capra as a follow up to his successful film series Why We Fight. The army used this film as propaganda to convince Black Americans to enlist in the army and fight in the war. Most people regarded the film very highly, some going as far as to say that The Negro Soldier was "one of the finest things that ever happened to America".[1] Due to both high reviews and great cinematography, The Negro Soldier proved to be a breakout film influencing army members and civilians of all races. In 2011, it was chosen to be preserved in the National Film Registry of the Library of Congress.

Because MOST Black Americans TODAY are Demoncrats in spite of that party's racist history.

I have to say that this is probably the first time I've seen my people portrayed on film in such an amazing way from those olden days. Usually Hollywood plays upon the damaging and disrespectful stereotypes. For the 1940s this was amazing to see. And such handsome soldiers.

My maternal grandfather worked with artillery in the Army during WWII. Grandpa was African-American, faced racism when he came home, but was always a proud, hard-working citizen who was able to buy a nice home and take good care of his family. I often wondered about his experiences during the war and really should've asked more questions about it before he passed. My great-uncle, also on my mother's side, was a Black American who served in WWII as well. He was a career military man throughout his entire life and worked as an engineer in the Army. These documentaries are fascinating to me. Thank you for sharing!

Hi cow, Dindin's comments are valid...the ultimate hypocrisy is to potentially ask someone to serve (with the possibility of loss of life) their country and then
subjugate them to blatant and covert racism after the war is over... especially in the south. Not to mention even worse occurrences treatments some undocumented. White people take their privileges for granted for too long and often. It is hard to objectively comment on something you

And yet, some blacks don't see color, while many many white vets are treated very poorly as well. It's a shame. I see this film by Frank Capra as trying to honor the black heros with respect. He made the series "Why We Fight" (7 films) that were pivotal and inspirational by dint of their honesty and straightforward message. Without this tribute here to the soldiers of color, America would just be in more uneccesary ignorance. I can't help being angry about how the Bible was censored and reading & writing punishable offense by law for a negro.

Frank Capra missed Dorie Miller, a hero at Pearl Harbor. He was an American Messman Third Class in the United States Navy. During the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, Miller manned anti-aircraft guns (despite having no formal training in their use) and attended to the wounded. For his actions, he was recognized by the Navy and awarded the Navy Cross.
He was the first African American to be awarded the Navy Cross, the third highest honor awarded by the US Navy at the time, after the Medal of Honor and the Navy Distinguished Service Medal. The Navy Cross now precedes the Navy Distinguished Service Medal. Miller's acts were heavily publicized in the black press, making him an iconic emblem of the war for black Americans. Nearly two years after Pearl Harbor, he was killed in action when his ship, Liscome Bay, was sunk by a Japanese submarine during the Battle of Makin

The military advisor for this film was General Benjamin O. Davis, the first black man to attain the rank of general in the U.S. Army. Davis knew that if large numbers of blacks could be convinced to go fight and contribute to victory in Europe, they would return to America greatly dissatisfied with their 2nd class status as American citizens. Davis knew this would start an historic movement for black civil rights in America.

@@Lordsincere1 check out Capra's Why We Fight series, particularly the Prelude to War. Yes, it is propaganda but it lays out pretty well indeed why we fight against totalitarianism. The history of that series is pretty interesting. Capra was struggling to figure out how to do this series; he'd never done any documentaries, non fiction stuff (he left Hollywood and its money/fame for the Army). He decided in the end to use the propaganda of the Germans, Italians and Japanese themselves to make the case. Very effective. In particular he used The Triumph of the Will, Reni Riefenstahl's masterpiece made for Hitler and the Nazis (a great companion piece to that film is The Wonderful Horrible Life of Leni Riefenstahl). Sometimes propaganda can indeed be used for good purposes. Capra's work is I believe an example of that. An aside, for the series he did a film on Russia and its fight. It was indeed exaggerated and, in the larger picture of Communism, filled with left out truths as to the brutality of Uncle Joe's Soviet Union. But he needed to cement in the minds of America and its soldiers that these hitherto enemies were our allies - and indeed they were taking the brunt of the Nazi onslaught. Uncle Joe was so pleased with the film that he made copies and sent it all over the Soviet Union for viewing. It helped buck up the people under that onslaught but it was indeed less than truthful filming.

Being something of a WW2 historian I agree with you, the contributions of African Americans is never recognized or given just credit, of the thousands of books or documentaries there is scant in relation to it. Even worse is the fact that many units were openly derided and lied about as being lazy or incompetent by their superior commanders despite their efforts being just as or superseding their counterparts. My late partners father was African/Native American and fought in both WW2 and Korea. It blows my minds that men can sacrifice so much for a country that barely recognized them a people, to return home to the same social constructs...I'm sure many of those guys wondered who the real enemy was.

I just saw the movie THE INVISIBLE SOLDIER. It's on UA-cam. My dad served in the UNITED STATES ARMY during the SECOND WORLD WAR to the beginning of the VIETNAM WAR which was at that time called The War in Indochina.
The PSYCHOLOGICAL TRAUMA of serving in a SEGREGATED ARMED FORCES while under fire was worst than the ACTUAL COMBAT EXPERIENCE according to my father and mother who were military doctors and had to fight against the Japanese and Germans and later the North Vietnamese and Chinese and a few Russian Soldiers in Vietnam.
Unfortunately from my own personal experience while serving in the Navy, RACISM IS ALIVE AND WELL IN THE UNITED STATES ARMED FORCES.
HYPOCRISY versus DEMOCRACY and DEMOCRACY versus HYPOCRISY when you are BLACK and serving in the UNITED STATES ARMED FORCES.
Unfortunately for the UA-cam CHANNEL that posted THE INVISIBLE SOLDIER didn't allow for viewers to post their comments.
Now the CHICKENS ARE COMING HOME TO ROOST FOR AMERICA.
The country is being torn apart and its true colors are showing.
In AMERICA FREEDOM AND DEMOCRACY IS THE BIGGEST SCAM. IT'S A FARCE AN ILLUSION OF THE SEMBLANCE OF FREEDOM FOR BLACK PEOPLE.
By 2024, the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA will no longer exist as you know it.
Now don't go flying off the handle because you WHITE FOLKS are going to suffer dearly too. If you think that you are a WHITE SUPREMACIST WHO IS WORKING FOR THE IDEALS OF AMERICA? You are just merely expendable PAWNS FOR THE GLOBALIST ELITE to further their agenda of GLOBAL EUGENICS.
Let me ask you this question for all of you younger WHITE FOLKS who have the ILLUSION of SUPREMACY:
"WHERE DO YOU THINK YOU WILL BE AFTER MIDNIGHT ON DECEMBER 31, 2029?
Do you KNOW WHAT IS EXACTLY IN ALL OF THE INJECTABLE MEDICATIONS THAT YOU WERE GIVEN INCLUDING THE CORONAVIRUS VACCINE?
I was Aide de Camp for Zibignew Brzezinski who was President Carter's National Security Adviser and the FIRST PRESIDENT TO THE TRILATERAL COMMISSION. I studied extensively AGENDA 21 and AGENDA 2030.
Do you know that the so called SABER RATTLING BETWEEN CHINA AND THE UNITED STATES IS JUST A ROUSE AND THAT THEY ARE ACTUALLY FRIENDS to further the GLOBAL AGENDA OF EUGENICS FOR A SUSTAINABLE POPULATION AND DEVELOPMENT.
The entire COLD WAR was just a DISTRACTION for the implementation of the GLOBAL PLAN FOR DEPOPULATION.
I often wonder if the entire planet was facing annihilation from an unknown alien species, would race, creed, color, gender, ethnicity disappear for the good of saving the entire HUMAN RACE? Or will my worst fear come to be a reality in which the WHITE SUPREMACIST will be INTERGALACTIC COLLABORATORS AND BETRAY THE EARTH ONLY TO FIND OUT THAT THEY WILL BE VICTIMS FOR ANNIHILATION TOO?
The RAINBOW is a SYMBOL FROM GOD A PROMISE THAT HE WILL NEVER DESTROY THE EARTH BY USING WATER.
Well my friends That RAINBOW has been HIJACKED by the Alphabet Community and thus eventually HUMANS will just simply destroy each other.
For it is written and thus it shall be LAW which will become a reality.
Humans will NEVER be able to get along.
Now I urge all of you to please STAY HOME ON JANUARY 19 TO JANUARY 21, 2021. STAY HOME AND ENJOY FAMILY QUALITY LIFE WITH YOUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS. STAY OFF THE STREETS. Do not allow the media to exploit you by feeding you with DISINFORMATION. Stay away from WASHINGTON D.C. AND OTHER GOVERNMENT OFFICES AND BUILDINGS IN YOUR STATE. LOCK YOUR DOORS AND WINDOWS. Turn off your phone and computer and your television. Don't even answer your door or phone until January 22, 2021.

@@hrwatchinpuff6551 as a veteran, a lot of these wars we were idiots to participate in, black white hispanic Asian didn't make a difference, because we signed up and by signing up we honored the commitment that's understandable. Not all wars are honorable Wars and they don't automatically become honorable just because America starts it or joins it. However, the men who honor their commitment, are always honorable, on either side, as long as they stay to the rules of War. patriotism is not the core of democracy, the right to dissent is, it's rare among nations, think about it.....
