My personal favorite episode is the HvV premiere, from that helicopter intro to that iconic first challenge, the Jerri and Coach relationship, the Rob and Russel seesaw, Rob being the only competent Villain survival-wise, Coach climbing the tree, Sugar's disastrous flirting with Colby, it is just great!
Rob wasn't the only competent one, it's just no one wanted to do anything in hopes to provoke someone (control freak like Rob for example) to start shouting and try to boss people around :D

Personally, one of my favorite episodes is the one in Palau where Stephenie and Bobby-Jon are the last two members left in Ulong. Throughout the episode, those two are just giving into despair over constantly losing that it’s gotten to the point where Bobby-Jon is just destroying pieces of wood in frustration and is getting on Stephenie’s nerves by grossing her out with his snot-rockets that he keeps shooting right in the middle of where they sleep. Also, camp chores, such as pushing a boat into the ocean, are becoming much harder now that there’s only the two of them, which saps them of their energy and it’s clearly worn down on them physically and emotionally. Despite not giving up hope, they lose the immunity challenge to Koror anyways, leading to Survivor’s first ever fire-making challenge, where Stephenie comes out on top against the bigger fire-making expert Bobby-Jon. Now, Stephenie becomes a one-member tribe. A first in the entire series, and has never happened again ever since.
Damn imagine the Q & A challenge in Winners At War!! Q: "Who is the least deserving of their Sole Survivor title?" Q: "Who has the most to prove?" Q: "Who should not be here?" So many insanely good questions that would bring up so much beef.

the premier episode of pearl islands is one of my faves. The whole village scene was awesome. Billy falling in love with candace on cook islands is one of my faves also. And the season finale of australian survivor s1 (or 3 depends on who is counting) with Kristie emerging from an underdog to slay the competition
You scared me when you said the finale of Australian survivor. At first, I read “the finale of the Australian outback” which is a terrible, boring episode that gets worse and worse as it goes on
I don't remember mutch about australian outback since it's been 18 years since I saw that season but I remember my favourite challange being the one where they jumped off the cliff.. They don't do stuff like that on survivor anymore
Jiri H Yea they had the one where they had to jump down onto a really stiff net in One World and that one girl broke her wrist and got med-evac’d. That may have been the turning point for challenges that involved jumping from high ground
I think you hit on an interesting point when you mentioned at the end that all of your favorite episodes weren't strategy heavy and focused more on fun/emotion. I'm a big fan of strategy as well. Most of my complaints about certain seasons have to do with a lack of strategy: either it not being shown or it straight up not happening. But fundamentally, I do think strategy is more of a skeletal framework than the core of what we need in Survivor. Strategy is only fun if it's happening among compelling personalities that we care about on a base level. Gamebots aren't fun. The few that are are so because they're playing with a very dynamic cast. Strategy, on its own, it bland. And that's what makes Survivor so great: it's the perfect mix of fun, emotional stuff and a strategic game. ...and I just said the word "strategy" and variations of that way too many times.
I think it’s a mischaracterization to say the early seasons didn’t have strategy. Maybe Borneo wasn’t super strategic. By Australian Outback and Africa, people had a good grip of the game and were willing to be sneaky, lie to some extent and pave their way to the end. By Marquesas, we saw the first real “flip” where the people who entered the merge in the minority took control of the game and made it to the end. By Thailand, we saw someone not only plan out a path to the final 2, but intentionally bring along a “goat” with him so he could win the million dollar vote. By Amazon, we saw the “flip-flopper” where a player who clearly had no real allegiances and was willing to backstab anyone made it all the way to F3 and nearly won. The early seasons aren’t lacking in strategy at all. And they’re so much more full of life and emotion than the newer ones. Old survivor over new survivor any day (with the exception of Cagyan and Philippines)
David M All older seasons are entertaining to watch for me. I am not the biggest fan of seasons like The Australian Outback, Thailand and The Amazon, but who can deny that they’re all so full of life? Each of the first seven seasons felt like a journey all the way through. By the time they hit All Stars and Vanuatu, it felt different. The people who were being cast were people who weren’t exactly in it for the experience. None of them were genuinely nice people. Africa in particular is an example of a cast of strong personalities, yet they are all genuine. The players we see now... they honestly scare me and I’ve been disinterested in survivor for the past few years.

I think my favorite is the Three Amigos tribal council where Phillip gets blindsided. Just the pure chaotic energy coming from that tribal was one of the craziest ever at the time, and will forever be one of my favorite moments
Honestly I'm shocked that Episode 13 of Micronesia where Erik gives up Immunity didn't make the list. The entire editing is fantastic, the Tribal Council is amazing, and it goes down as one of the most iconic moments of all time.
The reason is because it's been the topic of many other Survivor videos of Peridiam's that it doesn't need to be brought up again. Plus it's not like it's happened before when someone had given up their immunity and then been voted out immediately afterward.

I said it before, I’ll say it again: “I Promise…” is just incredible. Great foreshadowing from Cirie right when they got back from Eliza tribal and also on Exile Island, a fun reward challenge and the reward itself was great, the best immunity challenge ever, and the whole blindside forming. And then the tribal, of course.
One of the funniest parts of the Philippines episode is that in that tribal Jeff asks each of the three why one of the others should be voted out. Both Russell and Malcolm say that if Denise makes it to the final tribal not only will she easily win but the jury will be falling overthemselves to write her the cheque themselves. It's very funny and such a great scene on a rewatch.

The two that come to mind are 1. Really random but the episode in all stars where Rupert has to decide all their meal and Shi Ann wins immunity. Idk why I just love all the elements, it’s my fav type of reward and immunity challenge and shi ann winning was fun. 2. The episode in Micronesia where Amanda goes to exile and plays her idol. Two random ones but those are probably the two I rewatch as a one-off most often.
What makes the Brandon vote-out even more heartbreaking is how he acts the next time we see him. And because of his outburst, we know we'll probably never see him on the show again.
That’s a good thing; he needs to get his life together and hopefully get some professional help. The producers had no business casting him on the show twice; he was not stable clearly.
You know Coach is one of the best characters in all of Survivor when he's a big part of 2 of these episodes. Coach was someone that as a kid confused me and as a teen/adult I laugh at and occasionally get an interesting moral/philosophical take from but 90% of time he's just a joy to watch.
My favourite episode is that one where Eric gives up immunity, because at the beginning its just a silly idea and the conspiracy develops making it real

HvV, Rupert and Colby fake an idol play to vote out Candice who just flipped to the villains the episode before even though Sandra was willing to flip with the heroes, imo, most underrated episode ever. Not to mention, this is a 2 hr episode, and in the second half Russell wins immunity and goes on a power trip, bullying Daniel, trying to pit her against Parvati, and resulting in Daniel going home
All time favorite is HvV merge episode with Parvati realizing she really is the biggest threat followed by the double idol play. All while giggling at Russell’s paranoia in the aftermath
The episode from Survivor Caramoan with Malcoms double idol play is one of my favorites. A lot of dramatic irony where the audience knows something the players don’t, makes the Philip blindside one of the most rewarding moments in survivor history.
Favorite episode has to be episode 11 of The Amazon, "Q and A." You get the auction, Rob C, the touchy subjects challenge but plus Matthew, and the amazing flip to blindside Alex.
I love how much you embrace the humanness of survivor. It’s the special part of the show and it’s something hardcore fans and people who do survivor analysis sometimes ignore but this top five is so rooted in that special messy human nature aspect of the show. As an ex-Christian who was twelve when South Pacific aired that season holds a weird special place in my heart and I think the last two episodes especially are really something unique and interesting and often dark
Coach episode, hands down, is the funniest episode. Editing masterclass and the exile montage might be the best thing ever on television. The scream at the end of the challenge KILLS me every single time🤣
Episode 8 of Cambodia, the Savage blindside episode, will always be my all-time favorite for personal reasons, so I'm SO happy to see it as one of your honorable mentions
Not gunna lie I was not a fan of South Pacific but I do remember that episode quit well because it was the only good episode in that whole season. But when you described it . you made me relieved why I liked it so much.
If you've listened to RHAP over the years you've heard many South Pacific jury/final 3 members appearing on the podcast telling Rob C that if Brandon had made it to the final 3 then he would have easily won. Apparently they all loved Brandon. The best part of this is that every time one of them tells Rob this he is confused by it and can't understand why.
My favorite part about that Shane and Courtney argument is that she was upset he said her apartment sucked and not that he said he was gonna kill her lol
My favorite episode is the one in caramoan with the exciting immunity challenge that reynold wins and then Malcolm plays idols for himself and Eddie, one of which he found hours before tribal in front of all his opponents, leaving the minority alliance all safe and then Phillip, the head of the snake gets voted out.

Great foreshadowing from Cirie right when they got back from Eliza tribal and also on Exile Island, a fun reward challenge and the reward itself was great, the best immunity challenge ever, and the whole blindside forming. And then the tribal, of course.

One of the funniest parts of the Philippines episode is that in that tribal Jeff asks each of the three why one of the others should be voted out. Both Russell and Malcolm say that if Denise makes it to the final tribal not only will she easily win but the jury will be falling overthemselves to write her the cheque themselves. It's very funny and such a great scene on a rewatch.

The two that come to mind are
1. Really random but the episode in all stars where Rupert has to decide all their meal and Shi Ann wins immunity. Idk why I just love all the elements, it’s my fav type of reward and immunity challenge and shi ann winning was fun.
2. The episode in Micronesia where Amanda goes to exile and plays her idol.
Two random ones but those are probably the two I rewatch as a one-off most often.
What makes the Brandon vote-out even more heartbreaking is how he acts the next time we see him. And because of his outburst, we know we'll probably never see him on the show again.
That’s a good thing; he needs to get his life together and hopefully get some professional help. The producers had no business casting him on the show twice; he was not stable clearly.
I love the episode of mvgx when will finally flips and then ken “tests him”
You know Coach is one of the best characters in all of Survivor when he's a big part of 2 of these episodes. Coach was someone that as a kid confused me and as a teen/adult I laugh at and occasionally get an interesting moral/philosophical take from but 90% of time he's just a joy to watch.
I love Coach so much. That scene with him lying in the creek hooked me on Survivor immediately.

I really like the episode when Rick Devons played the expired advantage menu Ron gave him, Ron thought he had him, Devons pulled an actual idol, and Ron went home. My mind was blown the first time watching it.

The reason I love Courtney is the fact that you can tell she knew he was joking but didn’t know how to respond so she turns the joke around by getting Shane going

HvV, Rupert and Colby fake an idol play to vote out Candice who just flipped to the villains the episode before even though Sandra was willing to flip with the heroes, imo, most underrated episode ever.
Not to mention, this is a 2 hr episode, and in the second half Russell wins immunity and goes on a power trip, bullying Daniel, trying to pit her against Parvati, and resulting in Daniel going home
All time favorite is HvV merge episode with Parvati realizing she really is the biggest threat followed by the double idol play. All while giggling at Russell’s paranoia in the aftermath

The episode from Survivor Caramoan with Malcoms double idol play is one of my favorites. A lot of dramatic irony where the audience knows something the players don’t, makes the Philip blindside one of the most rewarding moments in survivor history.
I still remember Malcolm tweeting right as it aired live. FIREWORKS!

Recently rewatched South Pacific and was blown away by “Then their were Five”. Any interaction with Brandon was absolutely tragic
I love how much you embrace the humanness of survivor. It’s the special part of the show and it’s something hardcore fans and people who do survivor analysis sometimes ignore but this top five is so rooted in that special messy human nature aspect of the show. As an ex-Christian who was twelve when South Pacific aired that season holds a weird special place in my heart and I think the last two episodes especially are really something unique and interesting and often dark

Not gunna lie I was not a fan of South Pacific but I do remember that episode quit well because it was the only good episode in that whole season. But when you described it . you made me relieved why I liked it so much.

If you've listened to RHAP over the years you've heard many South Pacific jury/final 3 members appearing on the podcast telling Rob C that if Brandon had made it to the final 3 then he would have easily won. Apparently they all loved Brandon. The best part of this is that every time one of them tells Rob this he is confused by it and can't understand why.
My favorite part about that Shane and Courtney argument is that she was upset he said her apartment sucked and not that he said he was gonna kill her lol

My favorite episode is the one in caramoan with the exciting immunity challenge that reynold wins and then Malcolm plays idols for himself and Eddie, one of which he found hours before tribal in front of all his opponents, leaving the minority alliance all safe and then Phillip, the head of the snake gets voted out.
I rolled my eyes so hard at the inclusion of a south pacific episode. Then I heard you and you sold the idea well.
But then another coach centric episode was too much.
Your 3 is my 1, and my 2 is extortion in WaW, because it is a wild ride and the best single episode performance in survivor history
