  • Dr. Lynn Marie Trotti discusses common comorbidities that people with IH experience and how they may or may not inform the cause of IH. She also shares what symptoms may overlap and the "chicken or egg" dilemma.
Dr. Trotti is an Associate Professor of Neurology at Emory University, where she also serves as the Associate Program Director for the sleep medicine fellowship. Clinically, her practice is focused on treatment-refractory hypersomnolence disorders and the multidisciplinary care of people with Parkinson’s disease. Her research focuses on the pathophysiology and treatment of the central disorders of hypersomnolence, through investigator-initiated, randomized, controlled trials and functional neuroimaging.

It’s a shame no one mentions situational depression. I was so happy before I got sick and for the first year or two that i had believed it was going away any second. But i have a history of depression and anxiety so it was tough to get through to people/drs

I know I likely do not have IH, but I’m trying to figure what is and has been wrong with me for the past 40 years. I wet the bed for 22 years until the urologist’s meds stopped it, I’ve NEVER ever woken up feeling refreshed no matter how many hours I slept, I could NOT function when I had to work 5 days a week, I could never imagine having kids because I can’t do mornings and I’m often so very exhausted. The times I did go see a doctor it was ‘blood work looks fine, it’s adolescence/being young/stress, take it easy, you’re not a morning person’ The mornings I had to call in sick, I’d be suicidal because here was proof I was the laziest most useless person on the planet. Then I tried to end it a few times, more diagnosis, then physical stuff, surgeries, failed surgeries etc etc This video is helping me list all the diagnosis, the stuff that happened before/after/during, the strong meds (anti psychotic meds especially) etc. I’m now finally ready to see a sleep specialist and beg them to look for what and why. So thank you for the upload from a simple human being.

This may sound very strange for me to say, but have you had an EEG to check for recent seizure activity? They can happen in your sleep.

I have Arnold Chair Malformation 1, Idopathic Hypersomnia, eds, dysautonomia, and mcas. I don’t have mental health issues. I do have issues managing medication due to side effects and allergies, and my IH Medication doesn’t work well all the time either. I can’t take other types due to heart rate issues and the fact it can raise my intracranial pressure which isn’t allowed.
