Hey everyone, let me know what irons you're currently gaming 👇 Big thanks for long-time partners of the channel Golfbidder for supporting this video, you can find out more about them here: www.golfbidder.co.uk
Came here to say the same thing. Still rocking a bag full of clubs from that era. I don’t feel like I’m missing out either. Clubs got weird looking and ugly in the last decade.
I recently "upgraded" to some Ping ISI's over my starter set from Wilson and it immediately cured my itch for "new" clubs. I hit these so much better than my previous set.
Finally got my P790s about 2 months ago after ordering in April. Absolutely love them. Roughly 18 handicapper and I’m starting to play some of my best golf with them now
So, this is just a big thank you. Down here in New Orleans where hurricane ida has left over 2 million without power, and we also lost cell service. When I finally could take a break from clearing up debris, somehow I had enough signal to watch this. Thank you for this chance. Don’t know if it’d be possible to ask for certain videos, but would love to see a Srixon driver review. Thanks for keeping the spirits up for us down here
I'm still playing Ping G5s that I've had from new. Love them. (I don't do social media so you won't be getting pics, but they are still in good nick.) One local pro who actually sells Ping advised me not to change them because later Gs haven't improved on the G5 that much - his advice was to improve my fairway woods instead. He was right!
LOL! I’m still playing Ping G2s (3-PW) I was fitted for in 2003-04. I have tested some others over the years, but nothing I’ve tried since then has shown me a big enough difference to pony up the cash. I also still absolutely love my Ping G5 driver with the green Aldila stiff shaft I picked up in a “used bargain bin” (barely used) for $30 around 2008. I may need to test out those super forgiving Cleveland irons, or the Ping G700 version of the hybrid irons, soon because I’d love a huge jump in forgiveness & distance as I get older.
My dad had a set of Ping G5's from 2005, and last year he upgraded to Ping G425's. I was able to get his old set, and they are still in fantastic shape. Certainly help up their shape better than my dad or I did over the past 17 years.
I've been gaming the MP18's since they were released and absolutely love them. I had played Mizuno's before and they felt great, but the new HD forging process they started using with the MP18's made them even better. Really pretty irons too.
Same, had the MP-18's with Nippon shafts since they came out and are just awesome. Yes, I bought Iron covers for them because they were so pretty I didn't want to risk anything, but after a few rounds I took them off. Again, because they look so damn good in the bag lol. They have aged well though, look just as good today as they did when I bought them and I play 2-3 times a week. I was an 11 handicap when I bought them and now I am a 5, so I would say don't be afraid to play a blade if you like them, just get fitted first!
I'm a new golfer. I got a set of ping G series for a steal at £150 for 4-PW. the pro at my course sold them to me. they arent the perfect size and not the correct spec but I'm loving them.
After playing only 5-6 rounds a year (kids) for last 10 years or so, they are now a bit older and I have more time for golf. I've replaced my very old Wilson pi5s (which I actually hit pretty well) with the Mizuno JPX921 forged. Went to a Mizuno fitting centre and got custom fitted. They are due to arrive any day now, and I can't wait to play them. I've wanted to play Mizuno Irons since I was a teenager.
I actual think your "minimalist" swing will be amazing for you. You are playing nicely and with alot less stress. It raises the question for you which is distance or accuracy. Anyhow thanks for the videos!
I play the 718 AP2s and I love them! When you hit them out of the middle they feel and fly beautifully, and when you don't they're not too bad either, plus I think they look great ❤️
Still loving my 714 AP2s. Like Paul said, more forgiving than most would think. Thinking about switching to P790s to get back some of the distance that I’ve lost in the last ten years.
With your insight, with your wisdom and to guarantee 500.000 likes, you could imagine putting together a series for us who envision a golf trip to England / Scotland / Wales with affordable courses for us with normal income and a somewhat limited travel budget. A week or two for golf alone, golf training, housing and still to experience the real golf and how it was meant to be played. Such a series would be something to really enjoy while combining with videos like this. Pretty please.
Pete, can I have your "rehab swing" once you're done with it? It's amazing!!! And I 100% agree when it comes to PINGs lasting forever. My current set is from 2014 and they look soooo good! Cheers!
Agree. I played with a friend of mine (6.8 index) yesterday who is gaming a set of Ping Zing 2 irons! They still look great and perform well save for the sand wedge which was near bouncless which made playing out of the china clay bunker sand near impossible! 😂
I’ve just picked up a set of Mizuno MP33’s. It’s true what they say, “Nothing feels like a Mizuno!!!” Thought I’d struggle with them being a mid teen handicap but OMG, they are awesome.
@@TheKansasfan1 thats interesting that you say that. Bought both the recent WS blades and the CB's. Sold the CB's but kept the blades as they are both soft and forgiving. Thought that Titleist MB's were the best blades ive tried but ive now found that the Wilson staff model blades are.
Just got a set of Wilson Staff FG Tour V6 irons this year. Best irons I've ever played. They feel like buuutttteeer when I hit the sweet spot. Wish I hit the sweet spot more.......
Am a beginner golfer and my first priority right now is forgiveness (my driver has a 14 degree loft), but my first reaction on looking at the Cleveland irons was: those aren’t hybrids?
I used the cleveland HB3 irons for about 9 months, they are very similar irons to the HB launchers but I couldnt get over the look of them, I just recently switched to the Mizuno JPX 800 irons, I love the look of them and the feel of them. Mizuno irons are truly the best
Just got a set of Srixon Z585s to replace my 2007 cobra S9s. I’ve been a good enough ball striker to hit forged irons for a while but am too cheap to spend a lot on clubs until I can consistently shoot under 80. Picked them up for $240 for a full set, they feel amazing. The V-sole makes a huge difference in the rough especially for longer irons, and they have forgiveness while still being workable and not hindering my natural ball flight. Only irons I’ve hit that felt better were a set of mizuno MP5s… these feel about the same as the JPX921 HMPs and Forged that I have hit on a sim. Which is very good.
Mr. Finch, First thing, thank you for all your content, i really do appreciate your enthusiasm for the game. I used one of your putting drills earlier today. (3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18 ft) You asked what i was playing currently (7.8 index). Let's see what month is it? Living in CA USA affords me the luxury of playing golf year round. (I get bored very quickly, so............) Spring / Summer of '23 April - MP-60 Cut Muscle May - 712MB June - MP-68 July - FT Worth 15 hi & Radial August - I-701 Tour I've collected more than 20 sets of irons, some dating back to the 50's. Seven sets of wedges, 20 drivers, 8 3-woods, countless putters and bags. Party on dude! Tee times: 6.22 @ 6:34, 6.26 @ 10:00, 6.29 @ 6:45...Being a widower does have its advantages but, I'd trade it all to have her back. 💔
Come across this video a little late but… I’m running the AP2’s and really enjoying them. I’d say that perhaps they aren’t the best for anyone above a 15 handicap or if you struggle to hit near the middle of the face. The distance does suffer quite a bit, when off centre. The flip side is that occasionally a shot can absolutely explode off the face and go an extra 15 yards, seemingly for no obvious reason. I’m sure I’ll be the reason for this but still worth noting.
After playing the forged Mizuno MP-64 irons with NS Pro lightweight whippy shafts for 10+ years... I recently got fitted by Mizuno rep, I played the JPX923-Forged and JPX923-HotMetalPro the best and got fitted to the Project X 6.0 LZ shafts. I think the change of shaft was the most important aspect of the fitting. I was lucky to pickup a second hand set of Mizuno JPX921-HotMetalPro with Project X 6.0 LZ shafts and they've been a great change to my game. More forgiveness, tighter dispersion and 12-15m longer than my previous irons.
Ive the 718 ap2’s and i absolutly love them. Im 20 playing off 8 and i always wanted a pair ever since i started playing, and when i got to single figures my dream came through😂 love them to bits
Although I did just switch to the Taylormade irons (combo P770 and P7MC), I do have to say Ping irons FTW! I don't love the looks of them recently... but I've been playing the Ping i210 for a couple years and they are awesome. The only reason for the switch is because I want something new and shiny. Those irons are fantastic and I plan on keeping them as a second set (for visitors or if I ever want to switch back to them).
I play Ben Hogan ‘73 Apex blades and absolutely love them, and I have the Mizuno MP 52 clubs as well and they are so good and forgiving. Neither of them are fitted for me but play so well. Mizuno and Ben Hogan have such great reputation of making top clubs and have very few clubs that a bad.
I'm a huge fan of my 718 AP1's, for a game improver set I think they look absolutely stunning and the forgiveness was noticeably better than the old pro-bilt muscle backs I'd been using that my dad got from a friend who won them in a raffle before I was even born!
I've got some of the Titleist 718 AP2s. It was great to see them starring in your video. I agree they are fantastic. Recently I started playing some Dunlop Pro model DP-101s and I feel about them what you feel about the MP18's!
Ok here we go... I say 5,000 likes and Pete has to drop the Ping iron from a balloon at 5,000 feet. Who's with me?!!! Great choices Pete. Those TM P-790's look amazing. I want to hit them!
The Mizuno wedges are amazing so I think when I am able to get back playing after wrist surgery I think I will need to try the Mizuno irons out for sure.
Rick Sheils said they are about 70% forgiveness.High handicap Going from 1994 Big Berthas (known for forgiveness) to the P790 I find them slightly easier to hit well and true than the Berthas. And significantly more attractive.
My neighbor finally got hired into a new career. I picked him up a lovely Tissot for him to wear to work. Of all my watches. I feel most proud of one that wont be mine. Its a unique feeling for sure.
First of all, I love your channel. I’m new subscriber from across the pond! I’m back into golf after 15 years to play with my son, who just started taking lessons. I bought him some Ping Eye 2’s. For myself, I decided to buy a set of Ping G15’s and so far they feel very nice.
Some cracking irons in this video. Suprised the Clevland Hb got a shout out but they are easy to hit. My top 3 Iron sets are Mizuno Mp18's, Wilson Staff Blades and my Favourites, and clubs i have had since 1998 and still use are Nike forged Blades. Lush feel, great shaping of shots, just great irons and only beaten on looks by the Wilson Staff irons.
I use the Cleveland HB 3-pm. Turbo 3-5-driver and RTX wedges mainly during winter and Wilson deep red fat shaft in summer. All graphite except for wedges
Interesting but one thing I've never seen by golf UA-camrs is any review of Yonex clubs. A few years ago I went to try out woods & irons with a view to replacing my old clubs. I tried various makes & coincidently opted for a Yonex Ezone driver & Yonex irons. The shaft of the driver has worn due to the padding on the metal bag dividers wearing out so I looked for a new driver. I searched through Ebay looking for a 2nd hand or new replacement for approx £200. I found a Yonex Ezone Series 3 with a 10. degree loft & a seniors shaft (I'm very nearly 75 years old) at ONLY £160.00 with the seller having excellent feedback. I bought it. When it arrived I was delighted (one of your favourite words) with it. I've never worried about the looks of a club, just its performance but the driver was superb to look at at address. When looking down there was a black head but a superb dark, bright blue covering to most of it. What I'm at last getting to is I've never seen any review or any Yonex club by any UA-camr golfers. Any chance of you doing so?
I’m on my second set of Ping G irons. Replaced the first set of 4 through PW in stiff flex, with a 5 through AW set in regular flex. I’m digging the regular flex set, because (1) I get more distance out of them, and (2) the AW; IE gap wedge is fire from 110 yards up to around the green. Really forgiving as well.
Retired in Dec 2020 and have been looking for replacement for my Cleveland CG1 irons...finally convinced the Taylormade P790s will be more productive for me...stay in the hunt!
I have to shout out to my Ben Hogan irons. Little known and often forgotten, the PTx can hold their own with anybody. Also, Big Berthas are the stuff of legend.
The Apex Irons from Ben Hogan were the best, the softest in impact feeling. But the PTx Pro are also forgiving and soft. They are underrated. The company do not spend sets or money to test them. So only Ben Hogan players know how good they are. I only play Ben Hogan and I offer them also for beginners because of the Edge or CFT model. Very late Ben Hogan began to deloft the numbers on their clubs.
@@bigdogpete43 oh, they are straight. And about the lengh: After I have played Apex 4 steel shaft in golden anniversary Apex Head, I add 20 yards with my PTx Pro with recoil shafts (both stiff).
Absolutely love the energy and passion you bring to your videos.. I chose a set of Callaway APEX 21 after testing the TM790, Ping 425 and multiple Mizuzo Models. The APEX are the best feeling clubs I have ever hit. The feedback is tremendous. I also USE iron headcovers because I absolutely want to keep these looking brand new. Get over it!!!! Happy holidays.
Been playing the ping i20 irons for 5 years or so and the durability is insane, would love to have the g425 or 410s but don't have the money for it so will probably be playing the i20s for a long time, love em tho
I am happy you mentioned the iron covers, dark secret I take them off on the course but whenever they go back in the car they go on. while not the MP-18's, my MP-20 HMBs are gorgeous.
PING G400 4-PW all graphite shafts. Best clubs I've owned and played since the Adams Idea A1 set I had back in the day. I also REALLY like the Titilest t100 set I rented on vacation. Really forgiving like the PINGs.
Peter, you are right about Ping. You can’t go wrong. Take some measurements. Know your color code and bam! Close to fitted clubs at a fraction of a fraction price. I’m still hitting my blue dot I3 blades. Full set. 3-Lob. I’m right on the line of blue and black so it’s easy to find Pings for my set up. I’ve got a set of Zings also. Ugly as heck but still go a mile.
712 Titleist AP2s were like hitting golf ball with a matchbox. No feel at all - none. By that time I was on Mizuno MP-60 set. Absolutely crisp and beautifull cavity backs. Then after for the last ten or so years Mizuno blades and off to Miuras.
I still play my Ping Eye2 BuCe Black Dot with original Microtaper shafts that I ordered in 1986 and can't really justify replacing now that I am approaching 71 years of age. A little beat up but still good when hit with a decent swing.
Still using Ping I3 blades. As with many of my clubs dad couldn't hit them and I would say 'let me give them a rip' and smash them. Dad would curse under is breath and say ' You want them?' Ended up with a few drivers that way. :)
My first set of blades (when I was assistant pro at Finchley) was a set of Ben Hogan Directors (1980s I think). Fast fwd to 2022, and I still use a set of Cleveland TA3 blades that I have had for donkeys years 4 - PW, plus 2 'special ground rusty' wedges (S300 shafts) a hybrid (S300) and a driver & putter.
Mixed bag of Mizuno and Ben hogan irons. Some new and some second hand. I play what I like the look of. Ben hogan uihi for my 4 iron, Mizuno jpx 919 pro 6-8, Ben hogan ptx pro 8 iron, Mizuno mp20 mmc for my 9 iron. .... second hand is the way to go because I only get to golf 10-15 times a year.
love ping irons. but with the purchase of ping irons, a fitting is absolutely necessary. even just a quick one to determine lie angle. you don't want the wrong color dot... that said, I got some i20's second hand that aren't quite the right dot and I still love them. golf ballin on a budget!
I switched from a set of super game improvement irons (Wilson D100) at handicap 14.8, to Nike Vapor Fly, and ended the season at 13.1. Love those clubs.
Hi Peter, I just got the Cleveland Launcher XL Halos irons but will be waiting after Christmas to use them. Yes they are a present. I’m also prepared to refer to the as hybrids when the questions start flying.

TM M2
Mizuno box 919 hot metal pro
Mizuno mp60, love them.
Slazenger Crown Limited 4-9, PW, SW. $35 for the set at Play It Again Sports. New grips on all... Golf Pride 4+ Align Mid-Size. Fantastic clubs!

I've got some of the Titleist 718 AP2s. It was great to see them starring in your video. I agree they are fantastic. Recently I started playing some Dunlop Pro model DP-101s and I feel about them what you feel about the MP18's!
Wouldn't be so proud to flaunt the Dunlop's maybe keep that on the hush 😂
I went from Ping G irons to Mizuno muscle back irons, which were too aggressive. Now I play P790’s and I absolutely love them.
Do you think a 15 handicapper could use these or are they for better players? Thanks
Ok here we go... I say 5,000 likes and Pete has to drop the Ping iron from a balloon at 5,000 feet. Who's with me?!!!
Great choices Pete. Those TM P-790's look amazing. I want to hit them!
21... This isn't going well...
Terminal Velocity might be over 300 MPH except the LOFT could force a "Flat-Spin" like a seed pod.
......waiting for the video.....
I got a set of Cleveland UHXs this year, and I love how great they feel and how forgiving they are.
Bought the Ping G irons when they first came out and still game them. Best irons I have played
They are still class
Love this list of best irons! The first set of clubs I bought were a used set of ping G irons. I got fitted this last year for the P790.
The Mizuno wedges are amazing so I think when I am able to get back playing after wrist surgery I think I will need to try the Mizuno irons out for sure.
I rock the P-790 clubs. I love them. Those murdered out ones are sick! Best feeling and performing clubs I've ever played.
Do you think a 15 handicapper could hit these or are these exclusively for better players?
Rick Sheils said they are about 70% forgiveness.High handicap Going from 1994 Big Berthas (known for forgiveness) to the P790 I find them slightly easier to hit well and true than the Berthas. And significantly more attractive.
My neighbor finally got hired into a new career. I picked him up a lovely Tissot for him to wear to work. Of all my watches. I feel most proud of one that wont be mine. Its a unique feeling for sure.
Been playing Sub 70 699 Pros for a year now and love it!!!
Just bought a set of the Titleist T-200s…am in love!! ❤️
I have those exact black P790s 3-P bought from Golf Bidder last year. It's nice to know that you think so highly of them. Thanks for the great videos!
what year are they? I would like to buy a set
Ap2. Absolute classs
Cobra T-Rail would be interesting comparison against the Halos. Terrific video as always!
In LOVE with my Nike Victory Red Forged Split Cavity Irons (3-PW)
I have a P790 driving iron. Love it. My favorite club in the bag
I like the cover photo with arbitrary describing words. Tour, blade, good, shiny, fun, handsome. Well done 😆
Srixon Z585s just got them built, absolutely love them, welcome change from Nike Slingshot 4Ds
First of all, I love your channel. I’m new subscriber from across the pond! I’m back into golf after 15 years to play with my son, who just started taking lessons. I bought him some Ping Eye 2’s. For myself, I decided to buy a set of Ping G15’s and so far they feel very nice.
I have a "Pinnacle 2" blade. Awsome club, many great shots played.
I have P790s and I have had them for 3 years and I absolutely love them
I still think the 718 AP2 is one of the best looking irons made. I love them!
I miss my P790 irons, should never have sold them.
I've got a Cleveland hb 5 iron. My favourite club. It's long and accurate and I can shape it when necessary. Beautiful flight..
Hey Mr Finch. I rock the Tour Edge Bazooka Ti. It rocks and I love them
Liked your choices...especially agree with you on Ping. They have some of the best clubs ever made.
I have owned the 08, 12, 14, 16, and 18 AP2's. All were absolute money. Gaming the AP1 now (718). I'm old now.
What’s the loft on your gap ?
Retired in Dec 2020 and have been looking for replacement for my Cleveland CG1 irons...finally convinced the Taylormade P790s will be more productive for me...stay in the hunt!
Just got my first set of blades p730s and I love them !
Love that putter. Silly comment for an iron video I know. But i just love it
Iv got old skool cobras. Had them for 10 years and they are awesome. Don't want to change
@@paavoschaefer37 Lets just keep it to ourselves. They probably arent the longest or straightest club, but they are superior in the short game for me.
@@bigdogpete43 oh, they are straight. And about the lengh: After I have played Apex 4 steel shaft in golden anniversary Apex Head, I add 20 yards with my PTx Pro with recoil shafts (both stiff).
@@paavoschaefer37 I don't hit them as long or as straight as my Cobras. But that might just be me. But the feel arpund the greens is why is use them.
One of your best video Peter!
Dude, I’d love to see ya play a full round with those Cleveland launchers, see how low ya score could go….👌
‘DUDE?! 🙄
He did use those Cleveland irons. He shot a 102
Absolutely love the energy and passion you bring to your videos..
Have a set of Ping i200’s. Absolutely love them. Ping makes such great irons.
Callaway Apex 14. Forgiving for a forged club and I absolutely love the workability.
I am happy you mentioned the iron covers, dark secret I take them off on the course but whenever they go back in the car they go on. while not the MP-18's, my MP-20 HMBs are gorgeous.
I am rocking the g400 irons and I love them. I am dreading replacing my wedges though as I have been using Nike wedges for 15 years.
All solid choices. I'm a big Mizuno fan and have the JPX 900 forged. Love them so much.
PING G400 4-PW all graphite shafts. Best clubs I've owned and played since the Adams Idea A1 set I had back in the day. I also REALLY like the Titilest t100 set I rented on vacation. Really forgiving like the PINGs.
Still loving my Ping Karsten IIIs.. from the 1970s... mind you before that I had Peter Thompson blades...
I game mp18 3-PW and a P790 UDI so Pete, well done you got it right!
I still play my Ping Eye2 BuCe Black Dot with original Microtaper shafts that I ordered in 1986 and can't really justify replacing now that I am approaching 71 years of age. A little beat up but still good when hit with a decent swing.
Miura 1957 baby blades.
Sweet beyond words. Just have to play them.
Still using Ping I3 blades. As with many of my clubs dad couldn't hit them and I would say 'let me give them a rip' and smash them. Dad would curse under is breath and say ' You want them?' Ended up with a few drivers that way. :)
TM P790 3-PW! I love them!
Totally agree about the Ping G’s, absolutely superb! Love the video, thanks for all the content!
Thank YOU for watching
Mizuno jpx 921 hot metal pro. Best feeling irons I have ever hit
Ordered a set of G425's five weeks ago; they're due to arrive five weeks from now. "The waiting is the hardest part," as Tom Petty said.
I love mine... had the Ping g425 driver too but have gotten rid of that
Haha same. Ordered 6 weeks ago. Should get them in another 4-5w.
Wish you would review some srixon clubs
Mixed bag of Mizuno and Ben hogan irons. Some new and some second hand. I play what I like the look of. Ben hogan uihi for my 4 iron, Mizuno jpx 919 pro 6-8, Ben hogan ptx pro 8 iron, Mizuno mp20 mmc for my 9 iron. .... second hand is the way to go because I only get to golf 10-15 times a year.
I got the T200 and they have been they have been fire. Love your channel Pete!
love ping irons. but with the purchase of ping irons, a fitting is absolutely necessary. even just a quick one to determine lie angle. you don't want the wrong color dot... that said, I got some i20's second hand that aren't quite the right dot and I still love them. golf ballin on a budget!
I've been using the ping G irons since launch and they've been great when struck pure especially! 12 handicap
I switched from a set of super game improvement irons (Wilson D100) at handicap 14.8, to Nike Vapor Fly, and ended the season at 13.1. Love those clubs.
Currently have P790's with MP18 MB's in reserve and 4-6 Cleveland Turbo Launcher HB's. Got this covered.
Recently bought a set of ping g irons, absolutely in love with them 👌
Hi Peter, I just got the Cleveland Launcher XL Halos irons but will be waiting after Christmas to use them. Yes they are a present. I’m also prepared to refer to the as hybrids when the questions start flying.
The Cleveland Halo are working fine for me. I swing slower these days and they seem to launch very well with the slow swing.
