Thanks for the candid update. Before seeing this, I actually bought the 2-in-1 Weld Lux unit on Amazon which has both the soldering iron and hot air on the same unit which works really well and I like it. For a beginner, couldn't really ask for more and the price was reasonable ($65) and came with a bunch of accessories.
I initially bought the standard model which had the same problem as yours did, when I place the air blower back on its holder, it wouldn't shut off no matter what I tried, not even the power switch for it would turn it off. I had to unplug the device from wall. Manufacturer agreed it was faulty so I returned it.
I wanted to give it another shot but second time, I opted for the upgraded model for $10 or so more. The upgraded one actually also has a 3rd power switch for the entire machine on top of the sectional ones but the new one cools off and shuts off the air flow when placed on the holder so it is working as designed.

Regarding the tips, I think the manufacturers want you to buy into their line of accessories (their ecosystem) so interoperability is not a priority.

In this case the modification is very simple to do. Just grind that ring off of it and it will take long neck/sleeve custom tips/attachments.

I would bet that the purpose of that ring is to stop hot air that would otherwise be blown toward your hand because of the looseness inherent in tabbed “quick connect” tips…. Probably would only notice it when using a small/restricted tip.

A [START] button. When first powered on, have it in stand-by mode. All hot air stations should be made that way.

I wanted to say first that I love your content, you are a very awesome guy!
I wanted to ask if you heard of people modding thier 3070s vram and doubling it from 8gb to 16? Is this something you would ever consider doing for a customer. I just bought a zotac holo 3080ti bare pcb which might need your services, but I thought if the vram was the problem, maybe the vram chips could be replaced with 2 gb versions? Seems like an interesting idea

I'm certainly no expert, but I think I would put a micro switch in whatever holder you use to hang the nozzle when not in use. You said that you don't use the cradle so you must use something else. When you put the handle back in the holster (whatever you call it), it actuates the switch and does the same thing that you switch on the base unit front panel. I hope you get what I mean.

Good solution with the second switch. However, you dont use the factory Power switch to turn it on. So why adding the second switch? Rerouting the factory Power switch to accomplish the job of your second switch seems like a much cleaner way. In Terms of optic as well as usability :)

I just got some hot air station today a Quick or Atten or something didn't take it out of the box due to having to help someone. Can't remember what I bought and it got delayed due to some hurricane event, and UPS got way behind, they must of let stuff stack up for a week before starting to move it to the USA to clear customs. So much for UPS Global Express 1 week to my door 😂.

Don’t get me wrong, i’m a big fan of your channel, BUT this hot air station was designed for soldering and desoldering using your hands… not as a bga rework station… so it will be very hard to do a tweak to fulfill your need… get a bga rework station!!! :))) keep up good work! you have that magnetic switch inside, and you could just wire micro switch to it but the switch could be connected to a hook you hang the head on and then it deactivates like with magnetic sensor

imagine a long stick with circle on one end and l shape on the other, it would have to push microswitch while being pulled on so L would press the button when you pull on the circilar end, and that could be really thin like paper clip wire, i would put the circle at the end where hot air pipe is comming from and just hang it down by it
if that is a bad idea , sorry for wasting your time , i really like ho in depth you was with the nozzle situation and video was quite interesting

@@northwestrepair You really want a magnetic reed switch. It looks like a very thin light bulb about 1mm x 10mm or so. It's easy to install, just install where the switch is. If you simply rest the handle next to a magnet, it will switch on and turn off the unit. You can add some magnets to your stand. The high end hot air stations like the Quick 861DW use reed switches.

What they need to make is a gender changer that changes the nozzle of the new style to adapt to the old style. This is what I would request to WEP if you have a contact with them.

Im wandering why I don't see anyone useing dry nitragen for there air in there hot air stations the big thing with this is the fact that it stops the oxadizing of solder its used in lead free soldering
And you get as much or as little air as you want with a pressure regulator and a flow regulator image uesing no or very little flux and less fumes with more air control this station your useing is a perfect candidate instead of the pump you can install an electronic valve the next station i get im doing this mod

    • @m4ki9h76

    • @Fasteddiesinhomerepair
      @Fasteddiesinhomerepair Рік тому

@@m4ki9h76 you need to educate yourself more before making this kind of comment your saying lead or flux is more breathable than nitragen in a already ventilated space by the way im going to reiterate that is already being used like this for lead free safe environments to keep people from long-term problems and the biggest thing is it keeps the solder from oxadizing witch means less breathable lead no you don't want to wear a mask with nitragen and breath only that but in a ventilated space it works it's used in hvac as safer gases
