It's always even worse than you thought - with Jon Stewart
Consider the following: ONLY those species who get off of this Earth and out of this solar system will survive longer. All other Earthlings will not survive. Where would species be today if much of the militaries' budget were spent on space travel? Space travel, the ONLY thing that will even save a military.
This was great. It's not about left wing, right wing or chicken wing, it's about global stability and the mess we make when interfering with international conflicts.
@@m____w____6981 This really has no nuance at all. Do you really think that every single one of those conflicts had no justification. Some would’ve been better than others, however John’s myopic, condescending, and insecure opinions never cease to annoy the shit out of me.

So glad someone is finally acknowledging our failed military strategies.
It's not just failed military strategies, it's that a lots time the American public doesn't even know about them, and in cases they need the public support for it, they just outright lie to the public to create consensus.
to regular americans it failed. to the military industrial complex, all of these are huge successes. not only do they keep getting funding because of all these conflicts that they create themselves...they constantly get increased funding. When the 3 biggest miliaries in the world are under a single flag you have to have a lot of $$$ to back it up.
by someone do you mean a fellow American? Because the rest of the world has been aware for some time.
The entire new media landscape has been chock full of people who have been calling this out for literally years… maybe it’s time to cut the cable?

I know it's got to be exhausting, having to deal with the monumental amount of bullshit, stress, and the nutjobs in positions of 'leadership' who lie right to your face when shown receipts for their actions. Then you put together a t.v.show, which must be a gigantic pain in the ass. I'm grateful for even a breeze of truth in the hurricane of nonsense and soulessness that is the status quo. He's funny but the points are stupid. If not for the US military power, the world would've been taken over by ruSSia or China.
@@smokeyhoodoo Could you elaborate?
Reminds me of your "America to the rescue" segment on the daily show back in the day, that showed how pretty much every modern threat was one the US helped create.
If the US spent even a fraction of its war chest on building foreign infrastructure and providing aid, I think the world would be a much better place.
January 6 was the right thing to do, but the wrong people did it for all of the wrong reasons. Back in the 1950s, there was a situation when protesters rushed the Pentagon. It all gets swept under the rug to keep selling the myth that America is a "free, democratic society." It's not. It's a business built by slavery and genocide and maintained by lies and greed.
That's what China is doing. Soft power is a hard platform to sell as a candidate when your opponent is screaming, "Bomb, bomb, bomb,,,,bombbomb Iran".
Btw, that's why the guys who choose a name starting in A like good ol'Adolph should be a concern... Somehow they make the Talibans look good , who would have thunked 🤐
People routinely overestimate how much the US spends on foreign aid, which is less than 1% of the US budget. The State Department is seriously underfunded, especially compared to the military.
@@antigonemerlin everything's underfunded compared to the military
Finally Jon Stewart is going to back to the topics he does best. That is, America's ridiculous foreign policy.
Thank you Jon Stewart, for continuing to do a show like this. Your contribution to comedy and humanity are equal parts rare, invaluable and illuminating. Your ability to hold true to honesty and decency throughout the decades is an honorable example to journalism as a whole. You are one of my all-time favorites!!!
Well said.
I wish he would stop the show and run for office
Going after the military industrial complex, Jon has some serious balls
If he had serious balls, he'd play the 1942 USDA film *Hemp for Victory* to his audience and end war for oil, end the drug war, replace fossil fuels, end deforestation and stop climate change.
How would Americans feel if they actually found out that America legalized weed to fight the Nazis and stop the Holocaust?
It sounds pretty stupid, right? Like something that a stoner hippie would say, right? Except that it's on film at an official US government website.
@@Marijuanifornia It sounds stupid, because it is. Hemp doen not equal weed.
@@MPostma72 Watch *Hemp for Victory.* Don't argue about this. Just watch the first 3 minutes. The federal permit to grow Cannabis Sativa that is shown in *Hemp for Victory* reads in bold, black print:

I mean, he has to make up for giving that Azov Nazi a medal in Disney World... (Not joking, that's a real story!)
It really doesn't take balls to address a topic Dwight Eisenhower could mention in the 1950s without consequences.
Now this topic absolutely deserves being brought up and america deserves 100% of the criticism its getting for the very real consequences it brings to countries. But let's not act like this is a tabo topic.

The platinum package, ha, ha but watching that was depressing as the military complex is a money machine.
It abuses our soldiers and leaves them for dead, in poverty and traumatized for life.
Jon is back on the game. Like 2007
But is he? In August he pinned a medal on a Ukrainian Neo -Nazi at Disney World even though we forced the coup in Ukraine in 2014. Ukraine is the same playbook. When we send billions of dollars there it's under the condition that they spend it with American weapons manufacturers. If Jon truly believes what he said in the clip, then why does he publicly support a corrupt regime that proudly employs the Neo-Nazi Azov battalion and received the largest foreign aid weapons package in history? I love Jon's comedy, but his politics are kind of f*cked.

As in what? Hillary sat for two different congressional hearings. One for emails, 11 hours. And one for Benghazi, 6 hours. She was out of the country, and was never told the embassy had requested more security. Cleared. Was determined that though some emails were marked confidential, none were marked secret, or top secret. Her server was never hacked. Rice was nothing more than Rumsfeld's puppet. Back then, the Daily Show with Jon Stewart (a comedy show) was about the only high profile place to get that story straight up. Please, now go for the Venn diagram of people on both the boards of the major media companies and the big three defense contractors.
And the cultural background of each.
Cut out all of that bullshit and just watch the 14-minute 1942 USDA film *Hemp for Victory* and legalize "Marihuana" again to reduce unemployment, reduce poverty, reduce homelessness, reduce crime, reduce government spending, reduce corruption, reduce police brutality, reduce pollution, replace fossil fuels, end deforestation and stop climate change all at the same time.
Yes, this one policy change will create a ripple effect throughout the global economy, and that's why no one in mass media will talk about it.
There is an official .gov link to the video from the US National Archives. It became public in 1990.
The time for talk is now over, the American voter must stand and vote these politicians, who are pro war, out-of-office.

It's on video at an official US government website. Watch the 1942 USDA film, *Hemp for Victory.* The federal license to grow Cannabis that is shown in the film reads, "Producer of Marihuana." This is how to end the drug war, replace fossil fuels and end war for oil, end deforestation and stop climate change, and that's why the film was banned from the public for almost 50 years after World War II and has been ignored for more than 30 years since it was found in the Library of Congress.

I love the image of Laura Ingraham trying to lie to the audience and say America doesn't interfere in other countries, and even her guest was life, "come on."
To be fair, I think she actually did know, and wanted to get that across...in a sly, back-handed way. If she asked directly, that dude would have said something like "America does not and will never interfere in the legitimate election process of another country" (the wink being thrown at "legitimate"). This was actually much more effective.
Far right has become surprisingly anti-war lately...or at least with Biden at the helm.
What lie? She just asked him a straight question.
@@szahmad2416 The far-right has always been less prone to war than the center-right - not necessarily because it's anti-war per se, but because it doesn't like / care about foreigners. Trump has probably been the least hawkish Republican in history. He ran on greater isolationism in 2016 and is running on it again.
The far-left is also less hawkish out of pacifism, all couched in anti-American and anti-imperialist rhetoric, whereas the far-right is so out of isolationism couched in "Why should we give a fuck about these tracksuit-wearing, Squatting-Slav Eastern European punks? Our money is best spent here" type of rhetoric. So the center-right and the center-left have always been the most hawkish.
Of course, when it comes to Zelensky, the left will naturally like him more, because his country is weak and the guy is basically a welfare queen just bumming around the world in that stupid Eastern European tracksuit asking and guilt-tripping others for charity. If Ukraine wanted protection, it should've put out to NATO earlier, but Ukrainians themselves are divided between between pro-Russian and pro-Western. Not that it's any of our business.
@@nonmagicmike723 I'll put you down as one at least partially sympathetic to the far-right worldview, then, based on the bit about Zelensky, which I think is a bit misplaced.
But no, I'm positive that this mindset was NOT present among the far right when 'Murka was occupying Vietnam; many of the far right-wingers still had grievances that 'Murka hadn't nuked North Vietnam and won the war...and more recently, the humiliation of leaving Afghanistan without wholesale slaughtering of the Taliban. You can even see some of this in Bannon and Trump's MAGA rhetoric of restoring "greatness" and "winning" and America's place in the world.
This mindset is relatively new, and I think it started after the second Iraq war, when the far right saw that they, too, were taken for complete dupes; were used and abused just as much as the most establishment idealist they sneered at. That seems to be the trajectory of Tucker Carlson, certainly. The glory of belonging to something "great" that destroyed or created a vision on whim faded when they saw they were used as pawns, and did not reap any of the benefits of the invasion, or that they had not defended America or their homes in any way. I think, too, that (to their credit), they suddenly saw America the way many of America's conquered saw it - bent on conquest and a makeover of traditional cultures through bombs and dollars, all with a considering smile on its face, blessed by an entrenched media establishment which was part of that effort. Of course, they came to a different conclusion, but they nevertheless saw it.
Hey, how about this? We publish names and addresses of all the boards of directors of all these defense contractors? How would that be?
Well it's never happened yet, because even Wikileaks is just an agenda machine to keep the powerful in power.
Love John
I love Jon and this is an important topic to bring up, but I have a problem with those lists displayed on the screen.
On the top list of defence budgets, the United States have been outspending the next 14 to 20 countries *combined* for the past several decades. That info again, the annual US defence budget has been larger than those of the next 14 to 20 countries _taken together,_ for decades. And most of those "next countries" are America's closest allies, basically all of NATO and SEATO.
And what it is getting for all that ridiculous money that you could build entire new countries with, is dysfunctional systems like the Osprey or F35 that need additional trillions to fix after the fact because that is just the way of defence contractors to milk the system for even more cash ("create a problem - sell a solution"). Not to mention useless prestige projects like all these aircraft carriers that the US navy daren't even send to the real hot spots like Oh say, the Persian Gulf, for fear they might be embarrassingly sunk by something like a cheap Iranian diesel sub or an even cheaper Iranian fleet of tiny boats with guided anti-ship missiles (as happened during a war game) and that would be nuked out of the water immediately by ballistic missiles against which it is impossible to defend them if the shit actually did hit the fan eventually one day.
Money well spent, guys.
You could have _bought_ all of Afghanistan with the cash you spent on that war alone. Lock, stock and barrel. Cause the average annual income there is a thousand bucks per year.
Yea but, how does Lockheed make more profit quarter on quarter if we just BUY a country? What Corporation can make gains off that?
