My girlfriend is Filipina, so I am trying to learn how to speak Tagalog. We’ve only gone through a handful of phrases so far, but she says this video is so good when usually she just critiques some other videos and language apps I’ve tried to learn from.

Dagdag pa dyan yun mga salitang kalye, jeprox, jejemon, gay lingo, Ang nakakatawa yun pilit na pag biglas ng banyage salita sa abakada alphabet. Dahil dyan, nabulok ang tamang pagbigkas. Sa makabagong filipino alphabet pinalita na ang abakada ng kompleto na letra.

Yes, this one is the best, and the one with JC. There isn't many. Tagalog is difficult but within range. I studied Spanish for a long long time and was only able to get to about intermediate level. I couldn't break through. Now, I ditched the Spanish and started with Tagalog since I live in an area where it is spoken. Some idiot told me, "It's just like Spanish". Which couldn't be uttered by an intelligent person. Just because a language has borrowed some words, doesn't make it "like" the other language. Tagalog is mahirap for a lot of reasons. The direct object and indirect object pronouns are impossible for me to understand and the way the words switch sometimes as a result of who or what is receiving /doing the action reminds me of the subjunctive in Spanish. It's very difficult. However, what I totally love about Tagalog is it's adherence to simplicity when talking about plurals and questions. And once you understand that there are about 5 or 6 different types of verbs, MA, IN, I, MAG, etc. then you can basically learn the aspects a whole lot easier than in Spanish. The nouns are chill too. But the syntax/grammar is off the chain difficult. And if a speaker is swapping there subject and predicates, better listen for the verb or you are toast.
Good luck man. Practice (of speaking) makes it easy. Correction is the key and will accelerate you. Don't be afraid to make small mistakes, and people may also nicely correct you, and you would learn a lot from that. Just ask "Támá ba?" ("Is it right?") or "Támá pó ba?" ("Was that right, sir?") if they have enough time and are willing to explain.
