    Gee, just what I needed to go further than just reading Basic Operation manual that came with my BR1600
    All the helpful knowledge and time you put into this is so appreciated. Kind regards Roscoe.

    Just watched your video and it has convinced me that I need to have a recording unit. I've been playing for 40 years and the few moments I've recorded have been lost over the years. You have convinced me that I should purchase the Boss 1600 so I can at least try to leave a legacy. Cheers mate 🎶🎸

      They are a great little unit.
      You can still pick one up relatively cheaply too if your lucky!
      Thanks for the comment J.

    Nice Tutorial 🙂 How do you use the buildin effects without recording them? I want to make a live recording and use The monitoring function to record dry mix but for more pleasure during recording i like to use some reverb added to the monitoring signal without recording it...
    Thnx!

    • @masteringtoolkit

      Thanks Marcel. Loop effects (Reverb/Chorus/Delay) are not recorded to tracks unless you are bouncing or mastering, so if you just want to use some reverb while recording, simply press the reverb button, THEN the left arrow key (next to F1). These are the reverb settings for the INPUT sources. Adjust as required and record away.
      Any settings you make here are then COPIED to the reverb playback settings on the corresponding track. So although it may seem like you recorded reverb to the track when listening back, it is just adding reverb to the track playback and can be changed or even turned off completely afterwards. Hope that helps.
      I do plan on making a video covering both insert and loop effects in a bit more detail.

    Hello, can you please explain how to create additional voices with the Vocal Tool Box,

      Hello Gerhard. Is your BR1600 firmware up to date? The Vocal Toolbox was updated in version 2 to get more a few more options - its well worth updating.
      There is quite a detailed explanation on how to use the Vocal toolbox in the Version 2 update manual which might help:

      @@Gerd-u2u For backing vocals that have a healthy amount of reverb and are not upfront in the mix, I think they are quite usable, but obviously that's very subjective.

    Would this be suitable as more of a mixer for studio and live use and thinking of the recording function as a backup capture feature to capture the live sets? There’s one for sale locally for $250 aud so wondering if it’s a good double use device.

    • @masteringtoolkit
      @masteringtoolkit  7 місяців тому

      Hey Cris - You could certainly use it as a mixer. It has very usable preamps and phantom power for the 8 simultaneous inputs.
      I have seen it used for live recording - even linking two together to capture 16 tracks. The only thing to consider is what you will do with the recordings afterwards. Typically you record the full set which means you have a single large file. There is no way internally to split this into separate songs and with it only having a USB1 output, it can take a long time to transfer off the machines. You can buy 3rd party software to speed up the process, but out of the box, transfering is very slow, especially for "set size" files.

      @@masteringtoolkitcan you dump your tracks into a PC DAW? Oh, and can you uncouple the stereo tracks and use them as a single track if needed?.... thanks.

    • @masteringtoolkit
      @masteringtoolkit  5 місяців тому

      @@titmusspaultpaul5 - No, not directly as the are in a proprietary Roland format. You have a few options though:
      - Export the tracks from the BR1600 while connected to a PC via USB.
      This is quite time consuming though as it needs to convert them all to WAV internally first and then you copy them over USB (which is a USB1 connection)
      There is software available to convert the VR8 files directly to WAV which you can buy, and there is also some free software to do this too.
      - If it is just a couple of tracks, exporting to a CD is a pretty efficient way to do it. You can use a CD-RW too and re use it as many times as you need.
      This is a good way to transfer a couple of track or a finished mix across.
      - You can connect the BR1600 to the PC via the digital IN/OUT and sync it to a DAW via MIDI. You can then transfer tracks backwards and forwards in real time.
      With regards to using the individual channels within a stereo track, in short, yes you can, but it has a number of limitations.
      I covered these in my previous video here:

    Still a VERY capable unit. Is this a unit where people have swapped the hard drive with a Compact Flash Card or Solid State Ram drive?

    • @masteringtoolkit
      @masteringtoolkit  Рік тому

      It certainly is! That's the reason I thought I'd put these videos together. There is not much in the way of tutorials for it out there (apart from the official DVD Owners Manual and that only really skims the surface of what it can do).
      Yes, the HDD can be replaced/swapped out. A CF card doesn't work on the BR 1600 though, but it does on the BR 1180 (based on my testing anyway).

    hello excuse me but we make electric music with this studio ?

    • @masteringtoolkit
      @masteringtoolkit  Рік тому

      It depends on how you want to produce the music. The BR1600 is a multi-track recorder and will record anything you play into it. However, if you want to produce songs using just midi, virtual instruments, software synths and samples then the answer is no, and you should use a DAW instead.

    I’m still trying to figure out how to split up a song onto two pieces. I have a 2 hour recording I want to split into 6 songs

    • @masteringtoolkit
      @masteringtoolkit  Рік тому

      Assuming that your recording is a single stereo track, you can use the markers to set the start and end point of each song. Then use the track Copy function to copy each song section to a new pair of tracks (or a stereo track). Make a copy of the project for each song, and then delete everything you don't want to end up with one song per project.
      Alternatively, you can export each song section via CD R/W and then import that back into a new project for each.
      Lastly, if the songs are finished, you could also just use the CD track markers to set the start of each songs and then burn to CD.

      @@gazoo1990 The BR1600 is not really designed to be used like a stereo field recorder, but is for single song/single project multi tracks.
      There isn't any way to copy tracks between different projects via the BR1600.
      Are the songs finished and just need to be split, or are you planning to add more tracks to each?

      @gazoo1990 Рік тому

      @@masteringtoolkit to be more specific. I have a 7 input multitrack live recording 2 hours long. About 4GB. The entire thing needs to be mixed differently because of different instruments coming in. If I mix it down to 15/16 no problem. I can export the entire thing and split it on computer. But I’d rather not sit there for two hours mixing. I’ve set markers. Just wish I could say, “take tracks from marker 3 to marker 5 and create a new song. But it doesn’t look like that is possible.
