Wesley Snipes is an extremely accomplished martial artist, so all those moves were really him. He even had to slow down because the camera couldn't keep up with his speed.
Also, Blade II is inexplicably directed by Guillermo del Toro. It's one of the most insane sequels in the history of cinema and I can't wait for you two to react to it.

@@Cream-2128 I think the point is that is saved Marvel in actual $$$$ not in terms of brand awareness. I only kinda knew he was based on a comic book character because of friends. But to your point, folks just went because they heard it was awesome not because it was the Next Big Comic Book Movie.
So then it gave the IP owners both the cash and confidence to make the X-Men movies.... which amplified the cash and confidence even more thus bringing us SPIDERMAN... which kept the ball rolling into Marvel trying their hand at starting their own movie studio which gave us IRONMAN. The rest is known history.
But yeah by the late 90s even the comics and even Marvel video games weren't doing all that great because arcades were dying so shit was getting grim. This movie was a huge deal behind the scenes in addition to being a cultural touchstone.

Blade is referred to as the movie that saved Marvel. It was released long before the modern day MCU and the success of the Fox X-Men movie franchise. In the late 90's, New Line Cinema took a gamble on an obscure, peripheral, Marvel anti-hero, that most folks never heard of outside of 70's Marvel lore and a brief appearance on Fox's popular early 90's animation series centered around Spider-Man. With almost no fanfare, and fueled solely on Snipes' star-power recognition, Blade entered theaters in 97 as the first Marvel movie to be rated R. It was a blockbuster success, spawning 2 sequels and cementing Wesley's legacy as a star. It also heralded the new wave of comic book to film successes that breathed new life into Marvel.

41:50 That injection she gave herself while talking with Whistler was the cure for herself, she is just un-sure if it will work on Blade... it might work, it might not. If it don't work she would have to develop an alternative.

My theory is they followed Karen from the hospital when she left to get that equipment.
Also, in the end, Frost wasn't at full power because one of the vampires was killed and Blade wasn't in the chamber when it got hit by lightning.

Hey, BJ and Asia. Wesley Snipes is thoroughly trained in martial arts. He's trained in quite a few different techniques, Brazilian Jitsu, karate, Kung foo, are just a few of his multiple black belts in his many different types of martial arts he has studied throughout his life time. He has a 5th degree black belt in Shotokan. All of the stunts you see him doing in the movie it's really him, he even helped choreograph a lot of the stunts, and fights in the moves.. He has a few other great films like U. S. Marshalls with Tommy Lee Curtis.

Let's be clear...THIS move started the Marvel Movie machine as we know it. I'm 53 years old, and vividly remember when this came out in 1998. I can't tell you how many times I saw this in the theater. Wes Snipes...Blade...is where it STARTED!! And that's why all of us lost our minds when Blade appeared in Deadpool & Wolverine. It's been way too long since we've seen him on the big screen. I will forever argue the introduction of Blade in the first 10 minutes is the BEST Marvel intro of all-time.

Saw this when it came out on the big screen! First time I heard about Blade, the character, was in the 90s Spiderman animated series!

When screenwriter David S. Goyer first pitched the idea of doing a Blade movie, the executives of New Line felt there were only three actors who could possibly do the role: Wesley Snipes, Denzel Washington and Laurence Fishburne, but in Goyer's mind, Snipes was always the perfect choice for the character of Blade.
There is a deleted alternate ending where Blade was talking to Dr. Karen on the roof of the building. Off in the distance you can see a person standing on another rooftop looking at them and that person is Morbius. Dr. Karen notices him and tells Blade they're being watched, Blade turns around and says damn!

Blade did in fact save New Line Cinema. That production house had a strong start with A Nightmare on Elm Street series, but started to have much financial troubles, but with this film project also merged with then Time Warner (which is not Warner Bros. Studios). Blade was essential in New Line being taking over by Warner Bros., which by the way were co-producers with Village Roadshow Pictures, and the distributors of the whole Matrix films franchise.

Comics were dying. Marvel sold most of their A-Listers.This was Marvel's test project. Marvel did not want their name attached to a project in case it failed. When it blew up, Marvel realized that they should jump from comics to movies. Then they started planning the MCU. Tracy Lords! If you know, you know. Blood Rave!!!
