Excellent advice on stringing a nylon / classical guitar!! I'm currently swapping strings on my old Spanish for a LaBella set (bought at Thomann of course 😎👍) which has ball-ends, so that's very convenient :)
i hope this helps my "HB Sandos" to stay in tune better after changing strings - well i knew i did it wrong, but how is right? - now i know - thank you :)
I heard once that you shouldn't untighten all strings together to prevent having the bridge without any tension but I don't know if it's really that important.
It's not super important but it does help. If your bridge comes off, you're going to have to hold it down while tightening the low E string. There's also a chance you would put your bridge back on the wrong way.
I've never had an issue with that. I recently had a 12-string acoustic without strings for more than a year, put on a new set and it still plays beautifully. May depend on the guitar, but if it's a well built semi-modern guitar I think the concern is overblown.
Great video, thanks for posting it. I go back and review it every time I re string. I have an Alvarez which has 12 holes at the bridge. ☹️ Despite your excellent advice I’ve managed to over wind & break the B string on my last 2 attempts . I’m obviously doing something wrong. I struggle to get it tuned and consequently I over tighten it. Still with some perseverance I eventually works. Thanks Kris.

I like your videos, seen them and used the tips you share with us before. But I find it very confusing, when you advice to wind both E strings to the inside on a tuning post and other four strings to the outside (which some guitarists find as an incorrect way), and then on a test ride we can clearly see that E strings are wind up to the outside, and other strings to the inside, as one would expect. Kind of strange. :)
Dude what is the classical music you play at 07:30 ? I forgot the name of it... but I have heard it so many times. Would really appreciate if someone would let me know ?
Your knot will stretch, you merely loop the string backward to mech rotation and hitch under where the string enters, it locks itself under tension and there's less that can stretch
Seems like the treble strings made today are much more slippery than old days, maybe it is because they are now polished and play easier for the design reasons? I started using bridge beads more as they work for me. Thoughts?
@@ThomannsGuitarsBassesNo no no, that makes no sense. And at the end of the video, the guitar you are playing clearly has the strings wound that way, opposite to how you showed in the video. Seriously, WTF?
It's a mess having the strings bind eachother at the saddle. Use one loop on the E-string, two on the A-string and three on the rest, and they don't have to tie eachother. I'm not talking about loops through the hole.

Hey, thanks a lot! Yes, there's a reason for this technique. You can see at 2:50 how close the E string is to the headstock (between the tuner post and the nut). If you wind the E strings up facing the outside of the headstock they will rub against the wood and scratch the finish after a time. Especially the wound low E string. //cheers, Kris
This is by far the worst way to restring a classical guitar.. why tf do the strings cross each other on the top?? Why do you only make one loop at the bridge?? PLUS IF YOU LOOK AT THE TOP OF THE GUITAR AT THE END OF THE VIDEO THEY ARE EXACTLY THE OPPOSITE OF HOW YOU TAUGHT TO RESTRING THEM WTF DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA HOW STRESSFUL IT IS FOR BEGINNERS
Some like it this way, this to get about the same break angle - can't say I support the idea though. And admittedly it's really not a good tutorial for beginners.
Question, i heard in some videos that it is not good to remove all the strings at once. What do y'all think about that? Is it safe to remove all strings at once or nah?
Hey I inherited a Gibson C1 we’re it looks like 3 metal bass and 3 nylon treble. What kinda strings should I buy what is a a decent brand for that are not to expensive. Thanks!
When removing and installing new strings, protect the finish of your guitar by laying down a sheet of paper behind the bridge, held in place with blue tape. It takes about two days before your new strings settle-in and hold tune.
I have a Yamaha C40. why do both e strings go inside at an angle to the tuner post? Is it not better that the strings are more straight after it leaves the nut toward the tuning post? Like the A,D,G,B strings?

From my experience with nylon strings it takes a good 2 or 3 days of stretching the strings every few hours and retuning before you will find some stability. Can't I use metal strings as a replacement for nylon strings for this type of bridge? Does it affect the intonation of the guitar if I replace it with metal strings? Please anwers 🥺♥️ I like your tutorial
Yes it does, also the tension of metal strings might be too much for the saddle of a classical guitar. You can add nylon to regular acoustics if they have ball ends but the other way around can really mess your guitar. Best of luck
What does it mean to Wind the string to the inside / outside of the post? I understand the inside /outside of the headstock when looping the string, but can't figure out what he means by outside of the post..
Just a shot in the dark here: has anyone experienced string breakage when the guitar is untouched? I have had three of the wound strings break in this manner. It's not oddly tuned or improperly strung. Ghosts?
Are they breaking at the same spot on the string or randomly? If same spot such as nut or saddle I would look for maybe a worn spot that is eating at the string. If not it could just be bad luck with strings. Sometimes strings companies just have bad batches and they fail. That is a frustrating problem. I have been there.
This video is a bit old. I think it's about time to promote the use of string ties as it is easier and neater. It eliminates the risk of string slip which can break the heart of the owner, especially if it is an expensive guitar. Also, it will expose the ornate bridge plate.
