Hey! For those of you looking for some more in-depth tutorials, product giveaways and such like, Alina and I have launched the Drone Film Guide Club over on our website. We are working on the content as we speak so in the meantime, why don't you sign up and be the first to know then the new videos are ready! www.captaincornelius.co.uk/dronefilmguideclub-signup/
Have to say of the several UA-cam channels I view on Mavic and drones in general I get the most out of watching DFG! Thanks for all you put into these videos!
Hey! Thank you all for your comments and discussion below! Just to let you know that as this channel is growing, we are struggling to reply to each and every one of you but rest assured that we do read your comments and value your input. Please do keep your comments coming! Drone Film Guide is evolving into a cracking community for those of us who want to do more with our drones and fly like filmmakers...stay tuned!
I think you're the only channel that does not use D-Log.. Im going to be filming with a a7rii and Mavic, should I not use DLOG either to keep consistent look?
Thank you! For sure, we've been doing this a while and our opinions are based on our experience. We don't just recycle videos others post on YT...just saying!!!
I've used my pro with ND filter's 8 and 16 while in AUTO exposure, and the camera's auto adjustment to higher light area's (i.e. sunny sky) is surprisingly smooth... almost negligible, and can be removed in post very easy...Manual is smoother in good lighting areas if you know that's the only lighting condition you'll be filming in..... as your video demonstrates, but I film in wide arrays of lighting conditions, for example dropping down from a sunny sky to the shady side of a valley and filming the darker valley... I must say AUTO footage is just better, but only with that ND filter, as it cuts the cameras auto adjust work way down. In all but extreme cases, the lighting transition is smooth and unnoticeable... thx for the work you do...
I really enjoy watching your videos. I used your recommendations from some of your previous videos and really liked it. Just updated my firmware and lost all the settings again! Then I found this one. Thanks for putting it all together!
Excellent stuff for new Mavic owners, appreciate your homework and efforts. Plus I love your home country, shot a documentary there a decade ago, probably one of the most beautiful places on Earth, you're lucky you get to shoot drone footage there, the Scottish countryside makes every shot look epic and majestic.
Thanks a ton for all the information you put out here. Your channel is easily the best source of information for filming using drones. If I could suggest another topic: do an in-depth video for grading 😎
That's really good of you to say so. We're not posting too often so as to keep the quality of the content as high as possible. We have covered a fair bit of colour correction/grading here but we'll be revisiting it at some point: ua-cam.com/video/Rrxq7x8U7HM/v-deo.html
This was a great video, to the point, practical, and very useful. Gave me every single thing I wanted to know and didn't leave me searching for more tips.
Thanks so much... really helpful stuff. I used your recommended settings and I'm now getting much better footage. I still have a long way to go... all the best!
Excellent. ive subscribed and look forward to checking out more of your videos. Just about to get a mavic pro as upgrade for ph3 advanced after building my own aerial platforms many years ago. Technology has moved so quickly!!
Yet another well presented, technical guide. thank you. Very interesting and I shall be trying out this information to capture (appropriately) The Flying Scotsman this weekend.
Fantastic useful video thank you so much. It’s rare to have the knowledge spoken of so clearly and cleanly. I look forward to dialing up the settings and shooting some smooth Cine-Log footage. On that note, what LUT to start with?
Could you please put a link in the description to the video you refer to which has looked closely at the style settings please? I can't find the channel you refer to. Many thanks.
Thanks so much! Super useful! I really agree that it is important to be able to fly without the Intelligent Flight modes. They are super cool, but a bit limiting for close in work. The Mavic makes a great tight boom camera and I use it to replace a slider believe it or not. Works great for shooting cars. Great video as always and thanks so much for taking the time! Franny
Same for us...70% of what we do is low level, jib type stuff so nice smooth manual settings are key. Thank you for your continued interest in the channel!
Excellent informative video. Good to have all the info in one well produced video instead of having to hunt around the net. Looking forward to hearing your opinions and advice on ND filters, I shall hold off on buying a set until then.
Great video! Thank you. The depth of detail was very helpful. Out of the box, the Mavic, is a bit overwhelming; particularity video settings. You've provided a nice baseline to continue to experiment with. Nice job; separating it all out!
I came to this video looking for a way to reduce the left/right YAW movement sensitive to less than 0.2 No matter how steady I try, I cannot move the sticks as smooth as I want to. Is there a 0.05 setting???
Great video. Quick comment and question. A problem with 'auto exposure' is that you lose control over iso on the Mavic (no idea why). And the Mavic will often put you into iso 200 when it is unnecessary - say 1/160. This leads me to 'guess' that the inherent 'native' iso is 200 rather than iso100. Have you ever looked into this?
Amazing video mate. I have a quick question. Now I am filming in d-log with sharpness -1. Do u think that is better change to cine-like -1 -1 -1? Is this improving the color and dynamic range? Thanks in advance.
Watched a few of your videos this afternoon and this one was great! I'm seriously tempted by a Mavic Pro and I think you've just pushed me to buying one :) My wallet hates you right now!
Hi thank you very help full, the only thing and this could be language thing English being my second language but the Focus AF/MF is still not clear for me what would be best for beginner but easily one of my favorite UA-cam tutorial, i am in Divisor(J-P)
Thank you for the all the great vids! On this one, when talking about EXP values I noticed that you have also changed the Forward/Right/Backward/Left EXP value to 0.15 (factory default is 0.90), but you didn't make an explicit comment about this one. Isnt't a value of 0.15 going to make drone navigation very slow/unresponsive/hard?
This video was freakin' excellent! I was struggling with my strongly filtered footage almost since I bought this drone. Now I have hope that's it's just user error. I will test your settings and recommendations and try again!
The motion blur is linked to the ratio between FPS and aperture speed, so if you shot in 30 fps with an aperture speed of 1/60 or 60fps with an aperture speed of 1/120, there is no difference in term of motion blur, right?
It's one of those things where you 'should' have the correct shutter at all times so if you are using them then you should continue to do so for sure. When the shutter is 1/1000 for example and a bird flies by, you can tell because it all looks a bit stuttery and jaggy around the bird because the motion blur is incorrect and it's a give away that an ND was not used so it is definitely better to use them. BUT most shots don't have much motion in them so that's why we would argue that for most shots, you can get away without them.
Hi great Video here. I will say that shooting at a +1 you do get the noise issue that can only be fixed using Neat Video which takes a very long time to encode but is worth it because it give you the best color and detail. But I disagree that shooting in D-Cinelike does not give you the dynamic range of colors that D-Log give you and is easily fixable post edit by using a LUT. D-Cinelike is the next best thing though for those that do not want to do post work.
It`s what I needed, tnx for that! Only thing: English is not my mother-language and dear man; you are talking so fast! I have to play back&forward all the time to actual understand what`s been said. You have a world audience when on the net and I am one of them :-)
Thank you for saying so! Yes, they should do. On the P4 I think the settings only go down to 0.2 as opposed to 0.1 on the Mavic but the same principle applies, get it dialled right down.
I’ll try and sign up. I have a Phantom 2, Phantom 3 standard, Spark, and I was finally able to buy a used Mavic pro. I’m having trouble getting my Mavic to film even as clear as my Spark. I upgraded my SD card and am going to see if that works. I will check your videos and see if I can figure it out.
You are more thank welcome! Haven't flown the P4P but I suspect pretty much everything would be the same. We use these settings for our P4 but the EXP only goes down to 0.2.
I use Inspire 1s and 2s daily (X5 & X5S cameras with Olympus lenses) but my Phantom 4 Pro produces the best photos & video of them all. Variable aperture, adjustable focus and mechanical shutter! Fixed focal length is the only reason I don’t use for everything. D log can produce finest results but now post processing and grading becomes absolutely mandatory. Grading to Rec709 as a base reference is my first step.
It's actually 30fps in the US.... 24 is considered a "movie" rate anywhere in the world.... FPS is all based on the countries electrical system, and said the US is 60hz, you would need 30fps and film at double shutter speed to avoid flicker (much lile in the UK we have 50hz, so film at 25fps with a shutter close to 1/50)
Hi Stuart, thank you for the great tutorials you have provided. I am rather new with this drone, but I already love it. I have an amateur question that I thought you could help me with, or anyone else that could comment on this. What is the easiest way to exit from a programmed shot so I can regain manual control of the drone. I was doing a point of interest orbital and once the orbit was completed it just wanted to keep going into another full orbit. I finally just hit the return to home and that seem to end it, but what’s the best way to end a programmed shot, and continue on with manual flight. Thank you very much.
Hey! You should see a little red cross on the app which allows you to exit the move. There is also a pause button on the controller you can press to stop the move while you are looking on the app for the cross. Cheers!
hi, Could you send me the link for a video with the exact steps how to make this smooth and hazy title animation. Or if you have it as a template or in file I could use also would be a big help! thanks so much!

That's brilliant to hear! Lots more videos to come!
Cheers Gary!
lots of good information presented professionally and without the typical youtuber showboating and BS that comes with it! THANKS!!
100% couldn't agree more!

One of the best explanations of the Mavic camera. Great presentation and yes I hit that subscribe button for more !!
Really love the channel Stewart! Binge watching and learning a lot! Your footage always lends you a lot of credibility! KEEP EM COMING!

I have searched several videos on this topic and most tell you what to set it on but did not explain why. This video does. Thank You !!
I really enjoy watching your videos. I used your recommendations from some of your previous videos and really liked it. Just updated my firmware and lost all the settings again! Then I found this one. Thanks for putting it all together!
Great, glad you found it useful! More videos to come!
Straight to the point! No unnecessary blah blah. I liked your video very much.

Plus I love your home country, shot a documentary there a decade ago, probably one of the most beautiful places on Earth, you're lucky you get to shoot drone footage there, the Scottish countryside makes every shot look epic and majestic.
Absolutely! Very fortunate to have the Highlands within a couple of hours drive of the cities.
Thanks a ton for all the information you put out here. Your channel is easily the best source of information for filming using drones. If I could suggest another topic: do an in-depth video for grading 😎

Thanks, I've seen this one already. I was just hoping for more of that :-)
Thanks for the video... I got a hand-me-down DJI Mavic Pro and have been learning how to use it. This was very helpful.
100% perfect, never late to the party !
Good to know...thank you!!
Great video, loved it! I've been flying my Mavic Pro since Dec 2016 but still found this very helpful. Thank you
I need things to be dumbed down as I am completely new to the world of drones and filming. Thanks fella, genuinely appreciate this one
This was a great video, to the point, practical, and very useful. Gave me every single thing I wanted to know and didn't leave me searching for more tips.
Brilliant! Glad you found it useful!
As a new flyer and knowing zilch about the photo side : thanks for an excellent summary piece : top notch. :)
A mavick owner for a week now. Great tips, gonna try them on our trip to Scotland. Thanks!
Awesome, well hopefully this video helps you take a few short cuts!
I have had a mavic for 5 months and thought I knew most thing. Thank you, you have taught me a lot from watching this video. You have a new Sub
That's really good to hear. Many of the topic are well covered already but it's good to know our take on it is still of value!
Perfect. Pulls a lot of information together in one place. Another great and highly informative video, thank you!
Thank you! We are doing our best to keep the content as high quality as possible so your feedback is much appreciated!
Super concise and informative! Helps me with my new Mavic. Thank you !!
I just wanted to say that the settings you suggested on this video are on point. I did a few test runs myself and yours came out on top. Thank you!
Fantastic!
Excellent tut, straight to the points without wasting the viewers time.
No nonsense!
Another awesome video. Have hesitated to buy ND filters. Think I was right given most of my shots are landscapes.
Glad you got something out of it!!
musician bruce indeed, I don't
Great video - best explanations I've seen by far
Just came across your channel. Many thanks for your tutorials, they are most helpful and of excellent quality!
Yet another well presented, technical guide. thank you. Very interesting and I shall be trying out this information to capture (appropriately) The Flying Scotsman this weekend.
Awesome...good luck with that! Glenfinnan is it?
Fantastic useful video thank you so much. It’s rare to have the knowledge spoken of so clearly and cleanly. I look forward to dialing up the settings and shooting some smooth Cine-Log footage. On that note, what LUT to start with?

Glad you found it useful. We will have a video on ND filters soon(ish) so stay tuned for that!
You guys are my favorites! thanks, man!
Great video! Thank you. The depth of detail was very helpful. Out of the box, the Mavic, is a bit overwhelming; particularity video settings. You've provided a nice baseline to continue to experiment with. Nice job; separating it all out!
I love your videos. Thanks for all the work. Getting a Mavic or Spark soon and these will be very helpful.
Awesome, have fun!!
Nice video, I'm still trying to get the best out of my Mavic for them car shots!
Definitely one of the more challenging things to film with a drone but worth the effort!
Very nice job, I mean, excelent very nice edition of this videos. Congratulations. You got my subs.
Thanks for the great information! I look forward to trying these settings.
Awesome, glad you found something useful in there!
I find your videos very helpful you explain things very well! Thank you for doing these videos (thumbs up)
Much appreciated Magnus!
Amazing video from now on I am going to use your suggestion setting for my mavic pro.
You guys are great! Wonderful tips. Thanks.
Thanks man for this professional video!
I came to this video looking for a way to reduce the left/right YAW movement sensitive to less than 0.2 No matter how steady I try, I cannot move the sticks as smooth as I want to. Is there a 0.05 setting???
Sadly not!
Great stuff. Another go to vid for the beginner.
thank you very much for sharing, very useful
Tty as I might, I can't find the dlog and dcine memu. Thanks for all the assistance. Doing my course next week.
Amazing Video! Thanks a lot
Wonderful video and best I've seen on settings for video. Using these on my P4. Martin
Great! Indeed, we use these settings for our P4 also.
thanks a lot!! I've learnt so much about my mavic from you!!
You are more than welcome!
Thank you, I love the UK. Love your vids!
Very informative video. You have a firendly screen presence. Wish i had seen it before my recent trips to Iceland and Greece. Liked and suscribed. :)
This is really helpful, how can I slow down the footage shot in 4K at 24 or 30fps without it looking laggy in post!
So helpful and simple and short great videos
Great tips, Thanks
Fantastic channel and super useful video, thanks for sharing, and subscribed!
thank you for lesson sir 👍👍👍 I only have 1 drone with is - MP.this sharing knowledge tremendously helpful.
Thanks a bunch. Great video!

I can't say I have because we never use auto exposure so I'd be lying if I said I had an opinion...sorry!!
Thanks for perfect info
Amazing video mate.
I have a quick question. Now I am filming in d-log with sharpness -1. Do u think that is better change to cine-like -1 -1 -1?
Is this improving the color and dynamic range?

Watched a few of your videos this afternoon and this one was great! I'm seriously tempted by a Mavic Pro and I think you've just pushed me to buying one :) My wallet hates you right now!
Do it!!
Hi guys, I am in Bali Indonesia at the moment and will be attempting to master your settings near a volcano. Wish me luck.
I changed the speed settings as you laid out in this clip. Damn, what a difference. Cheers guys.
I noticed of if I change camera lens even if it is set to auto focus I have to tap the screen and force it to refocus or else it is blurry.
Brilliant! Thank you so much for these videos... first class.
Much appreciated...thank you!
Great Video!
Thank you for the brilliant tutorials keep up the good work. I have found them invaluable.
Thank you so much!
I followed these settings to the letter today and seen instant improvement.
Saved weeks of not months of work.
Thanks again.
Very useful video. Thanks.
Awesome!
Hi thank you very help full, the only thing and this could be language thing English being my second language but the Focus AF/MF is still not clear for me what would be best for beginner

Not in our experience, just makes movements smoother.
Hi guys, great channel, do you have any tips for flying the dji spark as this is my first drone.
Thank you sir!!
This video was freakin' excellent! I was struggling with my strongly filtered footage almost since I bought this drone. Now I have hope that's it's just user error. I will test your settings and recommendations and try again!
Great video good stuff
Favourited, thank you.
Thank YOU!
Great job! But, and the settings for gain: pitch, roll, yaw and vertical ?
awesome vid keep up the good work
Will do...more to come!!
The motion blur is linked to the ratio between FPS and aperture speed, so if you shot in 30 fps with an aperture speed of 1/60 or 60fps with an aperture speed of 1/120, there is no difference in term of motion blur, right?
I use ND filters 4 and 8 all the time . Are you saying you don't need the filters? Great vid again mate. Cheers.
Drone Film Guide c
As usual great thanks
Thank you!
Hey, we did a pretty thorough look at this in our colour grading video you might want to check out.
It`s what I needed, tnx for that! Only thing: English is not my mother-language and dear man; you are talking so fast! I have to play back&forward all the time to actual understand what`s been said. You have a world audience when on the net and I am one of them :-)
awesome thanks!
Great info, thanks for the tips!
No problem...glad you found the video useful!
I love your channel. keep it going as it's helping me LOADS. Do the yaw settings apply to DJI P3S?
thanks!
Amazing video tutorial! Can beginners also use the cinematic mode in the mavic pro?
My god this is so good.
Cheers!
Your channel is a fantastic resource. Thanks for your service! Would
you tweak any of the info in this video for the Phantom 4 Pro?
Well delivered.
Thank you! Much appreciated!
Great video! One question, do you keep the plastic dome on your lens when you fly or do you remove it?
It's actually 30fps in the US.... 24 is considered a "movie" rate anywhere in the world.... FPS is all based on the countries electrical system, and said the US is 60hz, you would need 30fps and film at double shutter speed to avoid flicker (much lile in the UK we have 50hz, so film at 25fps with a shutter close to 1/50)
Very informative video.
Thank you!
THX for that
Thank You!!!!!
Hi Stuart, thank you for the great tutorials you have provided. I am rather new with this drone, but I already love it. Hey! You should see a little red cross on the app which allows you to exit the move. There is also a pause button on the controller you can press to stop the move while you are looking on the app for the cross. Cheers!
@@DroneFilmGuide thank you so much appreciate the response, have a good one.
hi, Could you send me the link for a video with the exact steps how to make this smooth and hazy title animation. Or if you have it as a template or in file I could use also would be a big help! thanks so much!
So, you don't have any problems with sharpness -1 on your Mavic?
hi...1 simple question..i already own mavic mini for a year..now i think to buy used mavic pro..is it worth it in 2020?
