Which bike is your favourite? Does the drop bar on the SuperCali make you queasy? How about a carbon saddle on a retro rustbucket? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!
i love the on-one, and remember it fondly from matthew's praise of terrible bikes. its got rust, character in spades, charm, and most importantly, a unique life. its my favorite bikes to see: something with enormous sentimental value, looks like its been ridden hard, put away dirty, well loved, with tiny component choices/upgrades that make absolutely no sense to anyone but its rider.
Harold Lloyd (target audience reference) is doing an excellent job. Good to see The Woz back on our screens. Matthew: The review Meister. The Scottish lady in the jumper, great job too darling. 😃😉
That On One rust bucket is like my commuter. Honestly it sees more mileage than all my other bikes as it is literally my daily ride and my pub bike of choice.
Clicked on the vid for that Supercaliber, was a little disappointed that it was a big money build. With a new gravel bike and FS XC bike on the way I'm considering what I can potentially do to keep my old 26" wheel XC HT relevant and perhaps fill the gap between.
@Matthew you should take a look at a Surly Steamroller fork, I've added it to a Triban 100 to make it a "cross"bike, it looks good, it has a lot of clearance and it's very comfortable!
I was just thinking about the ultimate gravel bike. There are FS gravel bikes out there but every one I looked at missed the mark slightly. I thought hmmm, I wonder if I could put a drop bar on a Supercaliber?? Well, turns out you can and this might be just the thing for me. I have a couple of mtn bikes, I have a few road bikes, but there are gravel roads and gravel trails I would like to ride…
Damn, I recall telling somebody on one of these cycling illuminati channel comment sections to just put drop bars on a Supercaliber to make it as fast as a dedicated gravel bike on gravel. I was not expecting them to actually do it!
I really hope you can help me. I am 50 and want to put brakes on the aero bars. So I dont run into the back of a parked car. Have you ever heard of anyone making a split hydraulic brake with levers on both the aero and bull bars ?
It's only slightly higher than with 172.5's, but you're right that it does make a difference. I only really use the 56/11 on descents though - it's more about getting a big gear in the middle of the block to help optimise the chain line on flat/rolling roads. Can always drop down to the 42 up front if I need to for climbs, or use a wider cassette out back. I am considering trying a 1X setup too, as it's supposed to be slightly more aero... 🤔- Simon
@@bikeradar I also use 165mm cranks on the TT bike. Using an online calculator it looks to me that the gear ratio for 165mm crank, 53/11 is roughly 10 and for 172.5 crank, 56/11 is 10.1. Have a play your yourself with the numbers but had to change back to smaller rings when I change crank length.
@@philjono2462 Yeah, it works out as slightly bigger than a 58T with 172.5mm cranks, I believe. As mentioned though, I'm happy to have the bigger gear really - most TT courses here are pretty flat, so you can use the bigger gear to optimise your chainline at race speeds. - Simon
The Prime one doesn't, sadly - I think that sound tends to come from hollow/spoked disc wheels like the HED Jet Disc. I agree though, it's a very cool sound! - Simon

That Trek sure has bling n all but it's damn practical too. It's clear the person who rides it knows what they want. Love it.
that super caliber is the ultimate do it all lmao
Only reason I watched.

Thank you! I've enjoyed writing about this bike more than just about any other over the years.-Matthew
Cool! My Gravel monster made it to the video! =)
As an Italian i'm impressed that a bike is called pompino
Really can't believe that😅
💀

😳😳😳
I mean.... Mitsubishi used to make an off roader called the Pajero. Didn't sell that well in spanish talking country's tho.

That planet x bike is awesome

Warren those Helmets mun! And the always smiley Mr Loveridge
Lovin that supercal!
The retro rust bucket all day
Great to see Warren again. You've been missed, my old virtual friend.
Thanks for watching! Keep an eye out for more Warren very soon
Big fan of the exocet! I love mine. Down right practical as a home mechanic. No pfaffing with hidden bull$$$$. and lined internal cable routing.
Yeah, it's not the fanciest/fastest TT frame out there, but it does the job just fine and it's pretty easy to live with. Thanks for watching. - Simon
Good to see swissstop mentioned. Recently switched to their pads over sram, much better. Will try their discs also next.
works great very happy with it

Good call! I actually have the steel fork off my Genesis Croix de Fer spare and I'm tempted to fit that, but it's soooo heavy. -Matthew

What are those axle extensions on the trek supercalibre?
Great video!! The messed up mtb looks like fun but i should not ride it on the road

56 tooth ring combined with 165mm crank arms will give a huge effective gear.

You could add a BBSHD to make it a little bit faster lol
Please mention the song name played in the first half of your previous video
Does your planet X's disc do a whomp whomp sound at high speed?
The Prime one doesn't, sadly - I think that sound tends to come from hollow/spoked disc wheels like the HED Jet Disc. I agree though, it's a very cool sound! - Simon
You need Tririg omega brakes
You can make a show out of this
Pulse jet?
The supercali needs at least a 42t chainring to manage a longer ride..... dope otherwise.
Since i joined the cycling illuminati ahahah
The TT bike needs some TriRig breaks.
Yes, those would be a good upgrade - especially on the front... If only they were a little cheaper! 😵 - Simon
The planet X needs a new cockpit. Can't have it tubular stem on a tt bike.
That's one I've also considered, but aero stems are surprisingly expensive! - Simon
That supercaliber is a blasphemy to mountainbiking lol
'Brought' off Ali Express?
TREK ARE LEADERS IN EVERYTHING CYCLING
Planky was inspired by my friend Tom, it's all his fault 😁, he made a tall bike before the rest of us
Look for what "pompino" means.
The coverage of the Retro Fixie was too long and on the Trek Supercaliber too short imho.
Thanks for your feedback!
Hurtful. ;-) -Matthew
Calling the On One retro, might as well start calling my 30 y/o ass grandad.
why road bike dudee always so obses with faster, lighter, aero...just use superbike 1000cc....more faster more fun
