If I'm remembering correctly, these were the test chargers used to see if the coming ALC42 could handle the hardest long distance run Amtrak has. The locomotives did fine, until they hit a dumptruck in Nevada on the return trip. Thus, with a little switching around, the P42 was returned to the head.
I traveled from Chicago to Emeryville last week… I strongly suggest taking the California Zephyr from Denver to Grand Junction. Ride on the right side of the train from Denver to Moffat tunnel and then switch to the left side for best viewing. Coach seats are more spacious and comfortable than anything in what Amtrak calls first class. Views are spectacular. The first class is not first class. I paid $2300 for an accessible room and it was terrible. Amtrak needs to rebrand what they consider first class…Coach at best.
Never seen SC44s used like that, although it is interesting that Amtrak went for 2 different charger variants as opposed to how the use the GE Genesis for everything, especially since it looks like they’re gonna use the ALC-42 for non-long range service with airo

good catch mate but a bit of advice you should consider buying a tripod or do something about that camera shake
Interesting, leading with the classic Genesis, the goat locomotive, with brand new SC44’s behind that’s rare
Those Chargers are rare and they are good quality, especially on the paint scheme.
In cali it would be common to see a charger lol😅

Good video. Next time try videoing landscape instead of portrait. You get more content on screen.
I'll remember that for next time. Thank you for the feedback.
Wow!!! Nine cars.
No gates ?
The coaches sound like my Bachmann Henry’s boogie wheels of the rails
