Happy birthday clay mate. Hope it was as good as it looked
Nice have not been out fishing out in Okiwi bay in years.
Beautiful song mate, had to hear something like that today! In a rough patch with myself mentally and it's getting in the way of mine and her relationship. Thanks for that minute of clarity clay! 👍
We have all been there mate. Hang in brother.
Happy birthday big D
Great video mate, and Happy Birthday,
Clay them Kahawai in your chilly bin were the perfect size live baits for kingies from 20lb up put them out on a balloon tied on with cotton so it breaks off when a kingi's hits
This slows the Kahawai down and stops it hiding on the bottom.
Used to catch them up a local estuary after-work in the summer ,then fish for snapper in the burley while you wait . Put the hook just behind the head sideways at 45 degree with point to the head, kingies always swallow head first, sharks go for the tail, the point will stand up when swallowed allowing a good hook up.
Good luck
Stingray's like the yellow eyed mullet on the bottom if you fancy messing with a freight train as we used to call them big UN's
Have to smash the heart on this insightful and useful comment. We don't wanna hook in to any freight trains so no more yellow eyed mullet then. Thanks mate
Best of luck Clay and hope to see you pulling in a nice kingie soon👍
Cool vid pal.... an the background music woz brill. 👍👏👏👏
P.s please bang in hunt vid please....haha
troy must have loved it when clay dropped that song on him. Legend 🎣🌊👍😜

Good to get some positive feedback mate. Thank you
Darling I Love U - Clay Tallstories, that's the song. I just had to pause and look for that one. What a jam!
The only love song I have written. I had to almost die to write that one lol.
@@ClayTallStories I felt it man! Good on you mate. Loving the channel and the new album. Thank you for all the positivity and love that send to the world!
You had the most perfect day out on a real beautiful sea. :-)
Only fail by not trying mate👌
cracking vid
Nice feed
Jeez clay all the new gear! I take a 6 month break from the Internet and come back to see you with all these snazzy new rods!! Love it mate! The top GB in Tasman getting what he deserves. Keep it up!
Welcome back!
What an awesome song!
Darling I love u
I wrote that 2 years ago on the first day out of hospital
When the Snoek shoals travel south from Namibia into SA it creates a buzz in all the coastal towns along the west coast of South Africa. Us "Capetonians" are willing to pay top dollar to have Snoek & chips all year round🐟🍟
Please keep sending your barracuda our way😁👍🏼
Will do captain. There is nothing wrong with that fish and the fact the S.As pay for it is proof.
too much clay always awesome watching your vids man ! TU MEKE!
All the best for your birthday Clay. You are certainly getting into the fishing mate,, enjoy every minute mate.
Thank you, I will
Awsome shark those threashers
Last trip from Okiwi was a test run of my replacement yak nearly two years ago. Paddled out to about halfway up Squally Cove as far as Samson Bay. Only forgot to take a couple of things, ... sunglasses, drink, food, .... Had a fish, tested out the long line I put together. Oh well, was still a good shakedown paddle in the Espri. Collected a Prowler 13 while I was there.
The prowlers 13 is a great fishing kayak. I love them.
@@ClayTallStories I've been a bit slack and haven't introduced it to a fishing rod yet. Been setting it up and will get it seriously wet shortly.
Thanks for this video clay . I'm in a really good mood today . I'm getting offers for my piece of land like crazy here in sydney mate . And I'm stoked to let it go and get myself a nice property . This video has made my day even better. Cheers mate 👍👍
Gd day fishing look the part an u fish well
great video bro always love ya videos. with kingfish put sinker then swivel then about 6-8feet of trace then live bait little kahawai is better than herrings. with kahawai put hook through flesh just under were the dorsal fin starts. herrings put hook from under jaw through the top dont go through the little brown spot on top of head thats its brain
Solid info. Thanks mate.
South Africa imported snoek to Britain when we were on food rations. Nobody liked it, so it was sold as cat food. We were not that hungry.
Interesting. At one time NZ was exporting 5000 ton a year to SA....it sounds like they ended up passing it on to your guys as cat food.
hey Clay, like to offer a bit of constructive criticism on your fishing technique mate, you may have already tweaked to these but if not - with the overhead real (for right handed wind) if you put your left hand on the grip above the reel you can use your thumb to spread the line when winding in if you don't do that the line will build up in one spot and you can get a jam or tangle - also when winding in a fish give yourself a bit more line between the rod tip and the fish to allow for the curve of the rod otherwise you can snap the rod tip - other than that mate you smashed it and I'm sure if you haven't already managed to hook up on a Kingfish off your boat I'm confident you soon will...... still loving these vid's - lucky Pase didn't crap on the big boat......... hahahahhhhh, Cheers
good tip mate. cheers
Cant wait till I'm in the position to be fishing the deep blue some years soon
With kingfish it depends on the day,if its calm they can be picky with yellow eye mullet,if they are go down a size on the live bait hook and u will get better hook up rates,if its choppy they will take it easily, keep it up! And use 100 pound fluro trace max or 80 pound so harder to see your line.
And put your hook throu the top back on a 45 degree angle facing towards its head.
Thanks for the info. Have to smash the heart on this helpful comment too. I appreciate your help.
@@ClayTallStories you follow me on Instagram clay you can see wot I catch there, let me know if you get into stick baiting.
HI CLAY PUT YOUR L/H IN FRONT OF THE REEL YOU CAN GUIDE THE LINE ON THE REEL AND GIVES MORE CONTROL WHEN FISH ON GREAT VIDEOS
Thanks for the tip
I saw last week some people where catching kingfish in Ngakuta Bay near Picton If you want to try, it might by your lucky chance bro!
Thank you for the tip mate.
Hi Clay new camera has great graphics, very detailed picture looks great :)
Hey, thanks
clay im not sure if you are aware but that maxel transformer reel is worth around $900 new, beautiful piece of kit
Wow. Blown away.
That's are far better vid clay great interest I reckon cheers ,shaneo ,nelson
thresher sharks usually hit bait fish with their tail to stun them this might've been what happened here maybe???
Totally
Might have to give Joe Edlington a call mate. He has been catching every king fish in NZ
Joe is the man hands down.
@@ClayTallStories I look forward to that Collab
Hey Mate (Clay Tall Stories) someone may have already mentioned it, but I would say the Junkie Jig represents a Squid, Cuttlefish or Octopus.
Love You Video as always too Mate :)
Cheers from across the ditch Neal...
P.S. Do you vacuum pack your fish, pork etc for freezing, I just did my first Aus Salmon Fillets (Kahawai) and after a week they are still as good as if they were just caught.
Yellow Eye Mullet, as good an eating fish as any fish Ive eaten when straight out of the water Mate!! :)
Good info. Yep we vac pac
ripper vid. ill bring ya up here to the mussel farms up and thames, you can pretty much spare the kingies from ya boat.
You should catch and cook a sting ray clay, I heard the wings are delish and taste similar to scallops fried up
I might have to research that first. I have heard that cooking them in milk lessons the ammonia in them?
@@ClayTallStories hey mate, just tryed one for the first time last week. Bloody Delicious! Just pan fired in butter, worth a try.
Gotta put them in lemon juice water over night to remove the ammonia Appel cider vinegar also works
@@ClayTallStories watch blue gabe or his brother deer meat for dinner on here, either one of them caught and cooked one the other week, looked bloody good too!
Awesome video Clay👍 I know you said it a million times but what is the setup (rod and reel) you use. The reel you use, does it automatically throw the ratchet on. Years ago I bought an alvey when they gave them a new look for for fishing the beach. The ratchet click couldn’t be manually controlled. It lasted 2 casts then went straight into the bin.
🤣 if you listen closely from about 20 minutes on he gets in to what he uses
Top quality stuff
@@joshualeelee577 I know he says it every couple videos, he’s even put it in the description of some. I’ll rewatch thanks 👍
@@joshualeelee577 yep about 22:55. I googled it and nearly shit my pants. $1299
The kingie set up is a rod from Jigstar and the reel is a Maxel Transformer. Not sure of the rod specs off the top of my head sorry mate.
@@ClayTallStories I found them with a google search. Mate you scored well with the setup. Thanks for your help and reply
Gutted you never got a king mate one day though why is a barracuda not such a good fish? 👍 🏴
People don't like chewing on the nematode worm in them. Does not bother me...all just tastes like fish I reckon.
Good shit bro some good fishing content! I love these long episodes. Happy birthday too, I see some comments from 2 days ago so I take it your birthday was a couple days ago? 20th? Anyway happy birthday and best of luck for this year mate!
Yeah bro. Those came from Patrons. Many thanks
Best viewed with the audio muted.
Thats a first lol
Is okiwi bay scallop beds still a no go
Can someone else answer this plz? I think it is a no go but I may be wrong?
Yeah my dad was getting pissed off.because the line was building up on one side
Haha. Hard case
Conger ells are gd eating clay
I have only ever had them smoked.
Make an awesome fish cake. To
so how much would you say your rod and reel combo cost? keen to get something like that.
I have no idea mate. H&F should be able to price them for you.
Another great video Clay. Good message in there ;)
What's your thoughts on telescopic rods? Are they any good or a waste of time?
Great from travel. I took one on the plane to the Chathams. A cheap warehouse job. I hooked into a big 7 gilled shark and it towed me around in a kayak and never broke. I also took a tele trout rod and hooked into a kahawai up in Mahia and it exploded into a hundred bits. If you get one buy a heavy one.
@@ClayTallStories Cheers Clay👍
hey clay i just learned of the john smith collection in mapua, Nelson.
is this collection near u at all?
I don't know sorry?
Can I go fishing with you l live in blinhem
maybe
How’s pace, dog giving him some tude on the beach wonders over to the log with towels and cracks on with a quick pee 😂😂😂
Hey clay bro, im worried about you on that keto diet coz you have lost alot of weight and now you can see it in your face mate lost serious weight.., just worried that u might be taking the keto a "bit" too far mate, peace bro
That's the cancer mate...not the keto
@@ClayTallStories Aww mate so sorry to hear this :( thought the big C was dealt with.. i feel so sorry for you mate propper :(
Hopefully it is in remission but it smashed me.
@@ClayTallStories mate im lost for word and feel bad even said anything. didnt mean it in a bad way, just worried 4 you bud, you will smash it 4 the 2nd time if u have and you know it
Bro im sorry that was kaka bro
Good...now let's hear some suggestions?
Clay mate fishing videos getting boring need to post hunting videos
I fish in the summer and hunt in the winter. I do it for food and soon the weather will cool down.
Why all the flavors just cook in a little oil enjoy real fish
Well I guess after the amount of years clay has eaten as you say real fish
And why not it's all to our own taste right
@@joshualeelee577 so why does that make me a hater
Why dont you just do what you do, and dont let it get to you when people do what they do ?
@@mikerandall8289 answer why does that make me a hater he is a great guy uour a ducj

IT SEEMS YOU DON'T LIKE FISHING WITH YOUR SON ,PROBABLY BECAUSE HE EMBARRASS YOU LANDING FISH. YOU NEED TO SPEND MORE TIME WITH YOUR SON NOT ALWAYS WITH OTHER BOYS.
Im pretty sure they live together ae and have you not asked that the boy needs to spend more time with clay?
Do you hear that son? We should spend more time fishing together! I am all for that Tom but he also has a life outside of just doing stuff with his old man. I feel very grateful for the time he makes for me already and love fishing with him. The only emotion I feel when he lands more fish than me is proud...not embarrassed on any level
