Three weeks in Portugal with a carry-on and a lightweight backpack. I've been using packing cubes for years as I like to have my items organized. Thanks for all the great suggestions!
You are so welcome! Yes, I should have thought about suggestions for packing lighter, but with all the filming equipment, I pack pretty heavy now. Thanks for watching!!
We have travelled to Europe numerous times for an average of two weeks or more at a time. We do a sturdy lightweight backpack and a carry on. Note: European carry on sizes are smaller than North American. Choose clothes that wash well and dry quickly and limit the shoes. (Sad I know)
That helps, but I have to travel with a lot of equipment for recording content, so I can't really pack light. I've traveled a couple of times via airplane in Europe and haven't had a problem yet with overheads, really. I guess it depends though on what airlines you fly. Thanks for watching!!
We did our last big family holiday, travelled for 5 weeks, did over 10 countries, some hot, some cold, so we had to take clothes for all weather, in UK the guy asked if we were emigrating?😂😂 and in Singapore they wanted $600 for excess luggage, so I unpacked the coats, you can loop them on your arm, kids had to wear boots and cardigans (what the heck, airport was air-conditioned!!😂😂) and we just scraped under the limit!! Yay!!😂😂😂😂
I’m trying to pack light on my trip to Scotland this summer I noticed a few trips ago that the European carry on is smaller than what I had so I bought a new one. The old carry on will be my check-in bag this time. Just bought some lightweight pants and shirts that I think will work and items to layer. The shoe thing could be an issue, though.
Yes. My first Europe trip was for 8 weeks. I carried a a backpack and shipped 1/2 of my clothes home after the 1st week. Hand washing each night is the way to go.
@@Lovesapuzzle My friend and her husband travelled to Norway for 3 wks and only took carry-on bags. I was very impressed! It's really a good idea if you can do it.
Brittany, YOU are killing it! Both channels. I was going to get up to do chores and watch and I did not get up or look away the entire video, GREAT job, excellent flow of products and explanations. Thank you!!!
After having tried name brand luggage that never held up beyond one trip I invested in Samantha brown luggage. I bought it on HSN and to be honest I bought one of everything offered in my color choice. I now have 3 sizes o frolling suitcases, a rolling duffel bag, a rolling Weekender bag that is huge, two dowel bags, under seat bag and a couple more pieces. What's really neat is that all the pieces match in a crocodile style texture and when I travel whether it's alone or with family members, all of our luggage matches and it's very easy to locate because I chose koi which is a deep orange. This was almost 20 years ago. I'm still using it. I also started using packing cubes which will save your sanity as you travel. Try taking a cruise where all you have to do to unpack is pick up a cube and place it in a drawer. Same applies in a hotel. Your things are accessible, what's inside is clean and ready to wear, and when it comes time to go on zip the cube and put it back in your suitcase. If you're traveling with others use a different color cube set for each person. Simple. Hope this helps Other travelers.
A good rain cover is a poncho. Of course, it won't convey warmth, but it does cover you from your head to your knees - no matter how big or small you are. I always get really hot wearing rain gear, so a poncho works perfectly for me. I've used packing cubes and they're great! I have the ones that can be compressed once packed, so my clothes take up less space in my suitcase. They work really well.
That's so cool! I haven't tried the packing cubes yet, but I'm looking forward to using them on a longer trip! A poncho would be easier to travel with, but it can definitely be cold in Europe, even in the summer. So sometimes, especially depending on if you're in the northern countries, you'll need more than a rain jacket. Thanks for watching!!
Couldn't fit everything I do into my carry on without packing cubes. I roll everything and place side by side into my cubes. They are fabulous! Thanks Brittany! Fun video.
Granted, I'm not traveling with all the camera equipment that you do but, I think most people can get by with a lot less stuff. I carry on a small back pack for in flight comforts. I wear one sightseeing outfit, low wedges, a hooded jacket & a travel crossbody bag for important items on the plane. I check 1 size medium suitcase w/wheels. In it I pack: 2 more sight seeing outfits. I find skits and short sleeved tops to be comfortable and always appropriate. Walking shoes, an umbrella, a brimmed hat, minimal toiletries and liquid laundry detergent, a few zip lock bags and I'm good to go with room in my case for souvenirs.
Another aspect of protecting your belongings when you’re in public places is that some thieves will just try to cut the purse/bag strap and take the whole thing. There are brands of travel purses whose straps are uncuttable to avoid that problem.
My husband and I have traveled to Europe many times and I was pick pocketed for the first time ever in Rome last year. I couldn’t believe it. I was so mad. I was using cross body bag that had slid to my back and I didn’t notice. A very expensive teaching moment. I’ve got many charger but my favorite one is a small one that looks like a small barrel (width and length of the bottom of my pro max and it clicks in to the charge port. A lot lighter and really fast. You should try it. You can still call on your phone with it charging. Doesn’t take up hardly any space.
I'm so sorry that happened to you!! It's so common, and something most people from the States don't really think about since we don't really have that problem here. I hope you were able to get it resolved! That's awesome that you have a charging pack! They're so helpful!!
What a helpful/useful episode, thanks Brittany. The only thing I might add is a travel steamer if the hotel doesn't have them. That's for longer trips, obviously, or trips that will require fancier clothing so they're not always useful. However, when they come in handy they really come in handy. Just as a point of royal reference, Princess Catherine uses the Longchamps bag. Again, something that comes in handy.
Ah yes Calla! I should have mentioned that! Yes, very handy and a travel steamer is a great idea as well!! Especially on a longer trip! Traveling all over for a month is no easy feat! Thanks for watching!!
I recommend packing light with a capsule wardrobe of neutrals that can be switched up into different outfits. Your back will thank you as you traipse across cobblestones on the continent
What an amazing travel video! Wishing you such a good time in Scotland over 50 years ago in August We spent our Honeymoon in Scotland. Young Airforce Newlyweds lived in New Market, for almost 3years. Traveled throughout Europe by Train so much fun best memories.
Wonderful video. Could you provide a video for travel outfits to wear to/in the UK? Planning to go in the next year or so, would love some great suggestions, regarding weather, style and comfort. Thanks, from California
Yes! Few years ago I travelled from Cairo. 45-46 for about 4 weeks. One day we had a cool change, it was 44 degrees!!!! I landed in London and it was 6 degrees. Quite a change of weather. 😁😁👵🇦🇺
Awesome video Brittany! As someone who has travelled since 4 weeks old and done over a million miles, all of these tips are on point. Always lock my bag as well as not requesting cleaning, just in case someone does enter the room. Packing cubes are good, vacuum pack bags are even better. Just completed 2 weeks with a Tumi cabin roller and a backpack. Makes life SO easy not waiting an hour for checked luggage to arrive (Lisbon, Madrid and Vienna is really bad for that).
Always weigh your luggage b 4 the nite b 4 U leave An lord yes U must have good luggage I love Tuni & they have a sale soon r 4 others Tuni has a outlet in Atlanta Happy trails!
I watch your videos all the time, but I have to say I really loved this info one! Thank you!! How about tips on what kind of clothing to bring (carry on only) for a varied climate like Scotland / Ireland?
I love Pac safe backpack and crossbody bags. They have zippers that can be locked, rfid pockets to safe your passport/ cards being scanned. I bought my son the luggage when he left for college as he was a baseball Player and needed luggage for traveling with the team. He still uses it and he’s 28. It has held up well.
Loved this! I had about 7 of the 10. Can you explain your cellular more, also, have your rented a car? Driven? Also, clothing. I do love all the fun travel stuff out there. Have you ever shipped stuff home? The room service tip was a good one! ❤❤❤ Always keep copies of passport in luggage, purse and leave one at home! ❤
The packing bags are great but they have compression ones now as well which are better than the normal makes them so much thinner and you can add a lot of stuff. I also use Beats which are fabulous and they don’t hurt your ears at all.
I get an eSIM from International Card Center so I have data for my phone when travelling as it is cheaper than using my existing phone data overseas. You can choose regions (e.g., Europe) you are traveling to and duration. And the eSIM can be topped up if you are traveling to the same region for your next trip. They have a global option too. 😁
As in your picture, you had on sunglasses & you can get those anywhere, however, I’d HIGHLY recommend a 2nd pair of your prescription glasses if you wear them. And prescription sunglasses, or, I have PAIR brand prescription glasses & the sunglasses are just a thin magnetic shield. Have 2. It would really be a bummer if you broke or lost your glasses & couldn’t see!!! I watched this late, as I don’t travel internationally. Thank you Brittany! Very informative. 💕
I can’t get behind spending $600 or $700 on a (Tumi) suitcase that has easy to jab open zippers. My thinking is if you’re going to spend to get a Tumi, then get aluminum with impenetrable closures. You can get a zipper suitcase for $100. In other words zippered cases can be broken into easily, whereas a more expensive higher quality can’t be opened by slipping a pen tip between the zipper treads to pry it open.
One of the youtubers I follow has been pickpocketed twice in the last 2 months in London. Be vigilant while traveling. Also make note of your passport number and bank emergency phone number on the back of the card. That way you can cancel the card really quickly. I have also bought a travel safe that can be attached to something in the room that isn’t moveable, especially if you’re in an airbnb. That way you can leave a back up card or anything you don’t want to take with you during the day.
I would suggest also to bring some cash to Europe (greetings from Europe). You cannot pay everywhere with a credit card. And don´t forget, that in some countries you cannot pay with Euro (f.e. Czech republic). Have fun with traveling! Bon voyage! XX
This is timely. I’m going to Scotland August 1 with 3 friends (Rick Steve’s Tour). I’m bringing pretty much the same items you suggest. No big camera equipment (I’m thinking about leaving my little Sony point & shoot camera at home, but may rethink it). Since we’ll have to schlep our own bags, I’ll be taking a carry on and a small check-in this time. I’m usually at 35 lbs, but will try for less. I find the packing cubes very helpful for organization. I have a bunch from Walmart that have a mesh panel on each side so you can see what’s in them. I leave my passport and extra cash and credit card in the room safe. I have a money belt and one that goes around your neck, but I’m not a big fan and find them annoying. Do you or anyone else use them?
I've never been a fan of the money belts, so I stick with crossbody or a backpack if I need to lug around the camera. I'm just super contentious of where it's at at all times and what kind of crowd that I'm in. Nothing is ever foolproof, but I haven't had an issue yet. I'm just always super, duper cautious. Thanks for watching!!
I tried money belt before but it was such a hassle getting to the cash when paying for stuff. Now I use YouTrip which is a travel card. It’s both a physical card as well as a virtual card so you can use it with your phone. Easy to top up on the go with the currency you need, which reduces need to carry too much cash. Used very much like a credit card.
Sometimes I forget that most people don't travel with a bunch of camera equipment. Yes, but if you can travel light, it's always better! Thanks for watching!!
Thank you for your tips, I decided to purchase a Kindle for traveling, books get heavy, I love my packing cubes to compress my clothes, do not like to check luggage so I will do what I can to cut down on items I need to bring
I’m doing 6 weeks in Iceland and Scotland in Autumn and I’m so concerned with getting all my cold weather gear packed in my suitcase. Since in live in Western Australia I’m not that experienced in what I need for the cold so I’m probably going to take way to much like usual. I can only take a medium suitcase for Iceland so I’m probably going to upgrade in Dublin so I have more room for shopping and souvenirs
One more tip from a world traveler - don't just take adapters for the countries you are visiting but for the airlines too....we had adapters for Italy but flew back on a British flight and we couldn't charge our devices because we needed the adapter for Britain.... pro-tip (learned from experience)
Hi Brittany, big fun, another fantastic video. Please can I ask. What is the best option in a foreign country to pay by cash, card, or credit card? Thank you
You can probably find some watching the original livestreams. There were cheers, of course, but the pouring rain can dampen the festivities, no pun intended. It also depends on where the camera catches them, as they will only get cheers as they carriage rides by. If it's in front of the press, that won't happen. Thanks for watching!!
You don't have to buy retail for your camera equipment There is a website most professionals send and sell used anyone can access that cover's world wide shipping.
I have actually a couple of used items. Just depends though, as I like to inspect things and have a local option in case something doesn't work. Thanks for watching!!
Of course it’s expensive if you own it. However, for those of us who travel by train in the UK, & Europe, may I respectfully suggest one you can haul up train steps and a backpack! That giant pink monster of yours would kill me off! If you travel First Class, keep in mind when you leave the station you walk for miles only then to try and haul a big suitcase up the steps. A bottle of Woolite, a clip pants hanger and dress hanger will get you through your trip with half the clothes.
I actually did take trains and lug the bags on and off myself. I had a larger back since I was there for nearly a month. It's totally possible to travel that way, and to make everything work with trains and everything. I actually had to change a train numerous times in order to catch a Eurostar. And sometimes, you can't always help packing certain items, especially nicer items as I was attending royal events as a member of the press. So I hope this helps! Thanks for watching!!
I traveled to Orkney, Inverness, Edinburgh, London, Paris, Amsterdam, the Hague, and Brussels. I was gone for 31 days in temps that varied by 20 degrees (F) in one carry-on and a medium sized tote. No lost luggage and the ability to travel train to train to train and subways throughout the UK and parts of Europe.
@@AndreaMichele65 a true experienced traveler. BRAVA! 🌺 But we didn’t have press passes throughout Europe for Royal Events. In that case, we would have needed more, say a chic washable black dress. 💕
I had those washing sheets (no liquid worries) and washed once a week. It works. Thank you. I am planning for Italy, south France, Spain, Portugal trip next. With a carry-on. 😅
@@AndreaMichele65 , oh my! I’ll make sure to look for them. Old habits die hard. Yours are much more packable. This is what happens when you get older. But I’ll find them. Traveling to my BFF house, then on to Italy too. Have a wonderful trip! Thanks so much for the pointer. I’ll get enough for both of us, as we’ll be gone 3 weeks. Carry on’s and light backpacks. 💕
I read prodigiously, but ditched my Kindle for my smartphone - Samsung Galaxy high spec, which includes Kindle but also offers Audible for audio books, Netflix etc. I like to minimise my kit if I can, being the mistress of minimal packing.
No, but you do need to check with your cellphone provider. They need to officially note that you are traveling, and there usually is an extra fee. Thanks for watching!!
Last time I went to London I called AT&T and purchased an international plan, used it only during the trip. As soon as I got home I once again called AT&T and stopped/cancelled the international plan- thereby only paying for a couple of weeks!! Was way less hassle and expense 👍🏻. Trick here is to remember to cancel it 😅
Just FYI, if you're good with Android for a tablet at least Walmart has store brand ones for not as much as something like Apple or Samsung. And, I know at least the US has the option to get a Passport card as well that according to State Department website " is for U.S. citizens who travel by land and sea from Canada, Mexico, Bermuda, and Caribbean countries."
You can get much nicer walking shoes than those enormous clodhoppers. I habitually travel with a nice pair of leather or suede loafers - stylish, smaller, very very comfortable. And you can get ones with cushioned soles too.
Nasty much? Sometimes camera angles and position can make things look larger than usual… to say that the sneakers are clodhoppers is to say that someone has overly big feet. Your comment is just so crass… but of course you think that you are so refined with your nice pair of stylish loafers… if only your (lack of) manners matched the refinement of shoes…
As a european, here's my advice for your travel in Europe: don't be loud. The american language has a very high pitched sound, which is very grating on the nerve of europeans. Please, please, please, I know you can't change your language, but you most certainly can change the volume of your voice.
I heard that none of the other royal commentators will speak with you. Let you feel like your superior to them, but the other influencers have more information than you.
Umm, I speak with other royal commentators through private channels. Not sure about the point of your comment. 🤨 Everyone is free to do their own thing, after all. Thanks for watching!!

It’s both a physical card as well as a virtual card so you can use it with your phone. Easy to top up on the go with the currency you need, which reduces need to carry too much cash. Used very much like a credit card.
@@RoyalFashionNews Thanks for your input. Have a great time on your trip.
There are dual voltage hair appliances that only need an adapter which are good.
You look so cute in the thumbnail!
If I carried all that stuff, I would never go anywhere .
Thank you
Have you tried wheel covers with tread.
I once didn't have much room in my case, so I wore layers of clothes to get on the plane. Not the best idea as I was sweating buckets!
Are there any videos of people cheering for Catherine? All I can find is still photos without sound.
You don't have to buy retail for your camera equipment
There is a website most professionals send and sell used anyone can access that cover's world wide shipping.
Question: Do you need a special phone plan to use your phone in Europe?
No, but you do need to check with your cellphone provider. They need to officially note that you are traveling, and there usually is an extra fee. Thanks for watching!!
Last year my family and I went to Greece (my husbands family is from there) and it was $10 extra per day, per line for international. I have AT&T……
Yes, that's the case! Others might be different, so just reach out and see how things work.

Why do you make such an unpleasant comment? What do you want to achieve with that?
Sugar alert!
@MaryLovesLex
Sharkle? Is that you?
Rather rude to say that.
Great informative 💕👍👍
