Yes, much of The Wall is similar, but with Pink Floyd everything is tied together neatly into a fabric of time and space where some lyrics or notes on the guitar or keyboard are shared between some songs within an album and even from album to album. Just because they gently pick you up at the beginning of an album and gently bring you down back where they left you doesn't mean they are finished.

The Wall has darkness and drama, but the darkest... not only in PF's discography, but... of all that I know of any band, is "The Final Cut" album.

I've always found it curious that the album "A Momentary Lapse of Reason" (1987) is so decried by PINK FLOYD fans and, in general, ranked so low in the various professional critics' charts (obviously, this first PF album signed David Gilmour, and without Roger Waters who did not hesitate to diminish its quality publicly and with an arrogance tinged with pettiness, frustrated more than one idolater of the founding pope). For my part, I consider it among the seven best albums produced by the group and it is moreover one of those that I re-listen to regularly with the most pleasure. Thanks.

Just think that after you’ve gone through all of Pink Floyd’s 70’s-90’s albums, as well as going through Genesis, you’ll have Friday and Sunday open for more. Maybe start a Porcupine Tree Tuesday or Wednesday is women singers?? Lol

Ok, so now that we can discuss this one freely, I can disclose that this song has always struggled to break out of the bottom 4th of my full discography ranking ...BUT, but...even admitting that, I have to give it props for two reasons. 1. It checks off another box in the Floyd Genre-Busting Bingo game. As you stated, here is yet another facet of their sound that defies easy categorization and sounds like nothing else they ever did before or since, and that diversity is one of my fav things about the band. And 2. It contains perhaps my single favorite transitional tempo shift as the guitar solo gives way to the sax solo. I may not listen to it for the kind of spiritual uplift and anxiety balm I rely on Floyd to provide, but like The Nile Song and One of These Days before it, it's a perfect song for driving fast with the top down. Also, "One World", twisted though it be by the dark subject matter, is the defacto thesis of the entire aMLoR album, as it's stated again in Sorrow and is the whole point of On the Turning Away.

This song, there was a poll one time, maybe Rollingstone? Can’t remember. But this song was somehow voted as the “worst” Pink Floyd song on that weird poll. Time has served this song well, I agree that it’s amazing and it says a lot about so called “critics”. And if this actually is the worst Pink Floyd song (I don’t agree), then what does that say about their body of work??

I just watched the remastered video of On The Turning Away. I’m glad it exists, because there are elements of the vocals in particular which sound different, rawer than the studio version and the Delicate Sound of Thunder. It’s the same recording so it’s interesting hearing how the same song can sound so different with a few turns of the knobs in production. That said, I agree. I’ve never gotten the criticism that the album has too much 80s sheen to it and they didn’t need to “clean it up” at all. But still it’s neat to have different versions to listen to.

This is already the late phase of the band, which indicates a bit the end of creativity. "Animals" was boring and with all the songs (like here with "Dogs Of War") after that the flow of the songs is pretty predictable und unsurprising. The basic rhythm always reminds me of "Black Velvet" by Alannah Myles. That came out two years after "Dogs Of War" though.
