I don't remember him doing the show without an audience, either. Or is Garry just bombing with them? Mike and the guests are laughing, but I don't hear any audience sounds.
Comedians' are in the minority.. because they don't take life that seriously. Most people are serious ( because they actually work ) Skilled comedians' know this.. that is why they make attempts to pull in/acknowledge their audience. Notice, Shandling " thanks " Mike, more than once.
How interesting. Many years later he describes himself growing up in Tuscon AZ as a confused person with no ambition who stumbles into a comedy show and asks George Carlin to read some of his material to see if it's funny. And, here he is years later schmatzing it up like he's professional BS artist.
College engineering student who writes some material that he gives Carlin who then gives it back and says there’s some stuff on each page. Stop being a jackass guy
Rest in peace Garry.
Yes, we miss you very much.
Garry was a little too frenetic here but his wit was fully developed. When he learned to slow it down, he really blossomed.
I forgot that Mike Douglas moved his show from Philly to Los Angeles.

Gary dumbed down his jokes, and they still didn't get them.
Mike has plenty show biz in his blood. He's good. He had Tom Waits on and never missed a beat.

This was pretty good, except when Mike Douglas would step all over Garry's setup.
Douglas had a habit of doing that, thinking he was funny himself and helping his guest.

Fake laughter. So unfunny. RIP Garry.
Not fake. They had fun.
