Take your time going over the box. Don't rush it. I love when you go over all the specs. Spend the time to go over details if you can. Thank you for great videos.
Thanks John for providing the filters and thanks Pete for doing a thorough review of each. I wouldn't have a problem running any of these filters. They each seem to be well made. I do appreciate a filter that ships with a plastic film cover, and each of these had one. And as always, I would factor in the price of each as well.
Great Video Whip! Wow, pleasantly surprised with pretty solid construction of all 3 filters. I'd use any of the 3 in a pinch on a short oil change interval.
All 3 look pristine! Not any spot of rust, no missing glue, nothing misaligned, very good! 😃👍 I'd like the Purolator for the easy flow with the Napa filter media for good cleaning. 😉
Great Job, Pete, thanks for sharing John! I would pick the NAPA as well and just make sure to change it promptly. All three are well made and cleanly constructed, which is nice to see as seeing lots of sloppy glue drives me crazy. But at the end of the day, it is filtration and it looks like the NAPA would do the best job.
Nice video Pete. I gotta say those Ecoguard Filters are pretty nice too. Made in Vietnam is a bummer (wish it was USA), but all your videos about Ecoguard have shown they are pretty nice and clean (well made).
I'd probably go with the Napa, but I did notice the ADBV was smaller than the other two. It probably doesn't matter though. I've used ecotech air filters and cabin air filters before and they did a good job. But there was a lot of light coming through that media.
I like the construction of the Purolator a little better. The filter media in the NAPA looks like it would do a better job so out of the three that is the one I would pick.
@JodieMix fleetguard care , good quality, price is competitive, industry and agriculture respects them by experience and they blow more money on testing than marketing.
Nice job on the video, Pete. They are all inexpensive, basic filters. I wouldn’t run any of them because they don’t have silicone adbv’s. Truthfully I’ve seen much worse filters. Orange can of death comes to mind 🙄. Enjoy your Holiday weekend.
The NAPA oil filter in this video recommends a 3500-5000 mile (5000-8000) km oil change interval. That's quite a bit. Here I was just reading the 2011 Ford Fiesta owner's manual. The American version recommends an oil change interval of 10,000 miles (16,000 km)/one year. The European owner's manual recommends a replacement interval of 20,000 km (12,430 miles)/one year.
The "Purolator" a Puro in name only. It's an M&H made filter, but it does look very well made. And for what they go for on Amazon, worth it. I think resellers now swoop in to Amazon on some applications when the price drops to its normal low, then the price spikes for a while. Seen it with the popular TL14610 made in the US, true Puro. As for micro view of media, I think it could be deceptive. Thinking the Ecogard 100% cellulose, the others blended media with synthetic content. Thus the Eco media more opaque than the "Puro" and NP, but not necessarily more efficient. All things considered including price, of the three I'd take the "Puro" TL filter. Thanks for the vid.
@@WhipCityWrencher Whip I messed up. Thought the Eco was the more opaque media, wrong it's the Napa. Oops. But, I guess if one can't trust the box ratings then IDK what to say. I'd still take the Purolator though.
My Explorer with 3.5L V6 uses the same filter. But, I only use Motorcraft filters on all my Fords. I often use the EcoGuards on my son's Hyundai. It's definitely not the best filter out there, though.
Thanks for that great video! Question...is the Napa filter the same as their (what used to be/is) silver series? Their entry level filter right below the Gold?
Over the years I've watched the sourcing of parts like this go from USA to Mexico to China as they chase low costs. Now China is no longer the cheap source and I'm seeing a lot of stuff from Vietnam, India, and Indonesia.
I can only imagine others have mentioned this but there has to be an optimal point where oil flow is restricted by the filtering media if you pass that limit. The NAPA may look like it’s filtering better but only because it may have gone beyond the limit. It may be too closed . The more spaces we see on the Purolator and Ecogard may be a more correct flow spacing. At 100 times magnification we may see as dangerous what is actually the better filtering to flow ratio.
Napa wins hands down. Even though Napa has just recently got away from Wix building their filters. Now Donaldson, Baldwin and Premium Guard are building Napa filters. Depends upon the application on which of the three are building it. Napa told me that Wix was unable to supply the demand of filters that they required. Said to hear that, because Wix builds some fine filters. They really built great filters before they were bought out by Mann and Hummel. Now they have gotten a little more to the cheap side of things.
NAPA in this case is pro performer meaning the paper media would beat by quality filtering in a short lenght . Now if you contrasting Puralator one and Ecoguard high milages filters obviously Napa would not beat Puralator and get identic filtering quality media on Ecogard high mileage filter. It's like compairing Mopar , Fram and Supertech.
Probly the best way to test oil filter is go 5k miles on same engine same oil then test oil filter and oil, the one with cleanest oil is the one I'll buy......
They all you perfectly ok but it's a bummer that all these filters are imports from bad places. I prefer American, but I've been using made in Thailand factory Toyota filters on my Tacoma. I'm afraid to use after market filters while the truck is still under warranty.
Fail. In theory, the Napa filter will clog faster and go into bypass sooner....not filtering at all. That is because of the lesser filter media used and as you pointed out under microscope...lack of pass through in the media webbing. The real way to test a filter is only same oil analysis after same mile intervals.

Crimped seams look so much stronger/neater. All pretty well made. I prefer ones that are close to 99%. 👍

Fleetguard is better.

I don't think so, the Napa Proformer looks to be a different oil filter.
For me, I'd rather use a champ xl filter from rockauto if you're wanting to save some money. All the ones I've bought have been made in USA.
👍
All three appear to be decent filters. Soon all filters will be made in Asia.
I hope not, Thanks!👍
Or Africa because they're the next cheap labour force gold mine.😢
Seems like a lot of oil filters are made overseas now. I like made in usa filters better

All three filters look to be of good quality but I think the Puralator has the slight edge just because it appears to be a little more heavy duty.
Does a longer spring equal higher bypass pressure vs a smaller spring ?
I stick with a good old MotorCraft filter for the ford instead of Chinesesium filters, or go with AC Delco on the ford & let it taste that GM 😉
🤣👍
Being somewhat OCD, i would have a brain spasm for crossbranding like that lol 😭. Mopar for Dodge, MotorC for Ford, Delco for Chevy 😏
Fleetguard are hanging on to quality too.
@@shermangrant963 Purolator Boss for my 2014 3.5l EB. MC has been pretty suspect the last few years.
Motor crafts are just made by mann-hummel. It's still a cheap Purolator.
How did the by-pass valve seal on those?

Purolator should do away with that cheap filter model. Just keep the One & the Boss.
PUROLATOR BOSS IS BEST OIL FILTER
PUROLATOR TECH IS THERE MID-RANGE OIL FILTER
Bottom of line. Purolator 1 is middle of road filter.
Hopefully the Purolator Boss continues to be made in the USA. If not, I am done with them.
No! The BOSS is the BOSS!!!
Agreed, I hope they don’t move production.
Hopefully, the Boss doesn't move or I'm done with them also. Thanks!👍
Purolator made in China ..Sad I’ll stick with my made in USA 🇺🇸 Champ filters
Good video Pete. All those filters look like crap. NApa if I had to use.

Its very sad purolator sold their souls
Purolator red, One and Boss still very good.
The Purolator Boss is still USA-made. I haven't opened one up in a while, but the Purolator One is also USA-made.
They're basically all the same. Buy the cheapest with the lowest micron rating, I guess. I like that purolator has the most media area

Eco stands for economy (junk) not environmentally friendly like the spin merchants want you to believe.
