I’ve used both sigma and nikkor 105mm! To be honest the sigma is better but barely ahead of the nikkor! I went with the sigma 105mm simply because of the price difference! I’m waiting on that z mount 105 if it ever comes and it’s smaller than the sigma, go head and take my money!
Great Comprehensive Run down on what makes or breaks a lens for professional use. Not an answer to your question, but you should ask Nikon very nicely if you can have a few days with the "Eye of God" AKA the 58mm 0.95. Yes it's huge, and yes it's manual focus only, but I really want to see what TMIDD can pull off with that lens. Sometimes I toy with selling all my GFX stuff, getting a Z7 and just that lens to play with for a year.
Great suggestion! No doubt I would have fun with that lens right there. I may have to ask about that lens for sure it would be nice to see that in action, i've been doing a lot of manual focus with these film cameras anyway here recently. I still want to get a gfx especially if I find a nice deal because I enjoyed it last time I used it.
@@TMIDD Yeah, another of my temptations is to sell my native glass and go all manual. I started with manual lenses basically cause I was on a system where I could not trust AF, and anytime I do MF photography it's like breathing fresh air. Maybe technically have less keepers, but I feel at times the keepers I do have actually surpass what I get with AF lenses. The eyes may not be as pin perfect, but the depth of the images as a whole often have a magic AF can miss. FYI GFX 50R is the lightest of the GFX camera's most slim/compact, and can be had for 2K on a good day.
Your video came right on time. I was agonizing about getting the 85mm 1.2 but I already have the Sigma Art 105. I decided to get the 85mm 1.2 because of the form factor. It's also gonna be my only native lens to pair with my Z9 for now.
You got strong will bro I bought the 85mm 1.2 and my bank account cried a bit but that lens is just so damn good never leaves my camera and I’ll use it for years to come
Its def an investment. In full transparency I will say I may be a little less intrusive on pulling the trigger on a nikon purchase because of the loaner agreement I have with them but I'd certainly do it for this lens at the right price because I still want a Z8 haha
Definitely feel you on that. Yea I bought mine once Nikon had a sale on it a while back sometimes they drop a refurb sale which they lol take a good chunk off the lens. I love the z8 such a great cam and keeps me from feeling fomo with all these new cameras lol
Looks like I may have to go rent that nikkor 105 and then come back with another analysis haha. But this is a good debate I wanted to hear everyones side when it comes to these lenses. I enjoy the perspectives.
Thanks for sharing, beautiful works man keep on doing you, blessings to you and your crew for the rest of 2024 and going forward and beyond,
Much love!

okay is there any bias from you being a sigma glass owner👀🤣
So awesome, you got great lenses. Great video!
Thanks so much!

I can understand that! I still don't own a native lens for my setup but when I decide to make that purchase it will certainly be the same lens.

LMAO
105 mm
Team 105 I respect it!
@@TMIDD let’s face it the compression makes for a more dramatic finish and a cleaner interaction with the model.
Sigma 85mm 1.4
nice choice
What Up TMIDD???
Denise!!!!!!
Amazing
Thanks
@@TMIDD welcome
Nikkor 105 is in a league of its own. Sigma seems to be sharper but on z9 its too much. Nikkor render beautiful skin tones straight out of camera
