I 1st heard this piece about 6 yrs ago. I don't remember how I came across it, but I did & from the 1st time I was totally enthralled. I'm an old Vietnam Vet & spent most of my life working with The Dept of Defense. This rendition made me think of "TAPS". Now that I've read the history of "II Silenzio", Operation Market Garden, 8,301 American Military Grave Sites being tended by the residence of this Holland Town, & the Meaning & significance is magnified 1,000 times. Thank You to the People of Maastricht, Holland, The Netherlands, This is one of the most Beautiful Tributes for anything I've ever experienced. I look forward to sharing this with my friends, family & Veterans as far as I am able to reach. Thank You.
@ Ron Lamberston ...THANK YOU SIR for giving us FREEDOM and others , I believe to you this piece is meaningfull may God give you Peace and special place in his garden when times comes ,for the sacrifice and devotion you gave to fight evil. May God bless people from Holland /Maastricht for recognition and respect they give to our heros .
IAM LOST FOR WORDS !! THANK YOU FOR KEEPING THE MEMORY OF OUR FALLEN SOLDIERS ALIVE !! IT IS GREAT TO SEE HOW YOU HAVE HONORED THEM AND PASS IT ON TO YOUR CHILDREN. Lacrime agli occhi, pelle d'oca, mi si sono rizzati tutti i peli, eccezionale ragazza, mi fa ricordare i bei tempi del servizio militare a Milano, del 5° scaglione 1982 caserma Montello, Bravissima.

About six miles from Maastricht, in the Netherlands, lie buried 8,301 American soldiers who died in "Operation Market Garden" in the battles to liberate Holland in the fall and winter of 1944-5. Every one of the men buried in the cemetery, as well as those in the Canadian and British military cemeteries, has been adopted by a Dutch family who mind the grave, decorate it, and keep alive the memory of the soldier they have adopted. Annually, on "Liberation Day," memorial services are held for "the men who died to liberate Holland." The day concludes with a concert and the final piece is always "Il Silenzio," a memorial piece commissioned by the Dutch and first played in 1965 on the 20th anniversary of Holland's liberation. It has been the concluding piece of the memorial concert ever since. The soloist is 13-year-old Melissa Venema, backed by André Rieu and the Royal Orchestra of the Netherlands. This concert piece is based upon the original version of taps and was composed by Italian composer Nino Rossi. In this unique performance, the sound of the trumpet evokes harmony and heavenly peace. Il Silenzio' is an Italian instrumental piece written in 1965 by trumpet player Nini Rosso.

No dice so far...except Ms. Venema's website, which is a bit of a treasure (full disclosure: I played trumpet in elementary and high school). Do you know if this was just a concert that so happened to be played in Maastricht? If the location was just coincidental? I'm confused.

I felt like enjoying/crying about/listening to this piece together with my grandmother who died 5 years ago. I thank you, young Melissa Venema, for bringing these angel sounds to my ears, my granny wouldn't want anything more than her grand children remembering her with the beauty of life and music. Thank you,

with over 4 million views of this girl playing this instrument, certainly speaks for itself does it not? It takes great courage to stand in front of an audience and play like this, I saw this program on Sky Arts not only do I have a following of Andrea, but this girl is excellent and deserves the standing ovation she got
Thank you so much. As Americans we are NOT perfect but our Lord Jesus the Christ, Messiah of Israel IS. It was for freedom the Pilgrims gave up all to find a land where they could worship Jesus Christ FREELY. As a 9/11 Family and United States Veteran I want to thank Melissa Venema and the people of Holland who love our United States Armed Forces who LIBERATED their nation Holland. Freedom is NEVER FREE. Please remember my nation America, stand with us for the Almighty to grant us a great awakening. We are in desperate need of a mighty move of God. God bless you Holland. We The American People love you!
herinnering aan ons huwelijk en de crematie van mijn vader waar beide keren dit nummer werd gespeeld, prachtig. wat goed als op deze leeftijd al zo'n nummer kunt spelen.
This was the most moving trumpet piece I have ever heard. It brought a tear to me eye listening and thinking about the loss of all those brave soldiers !!! - RIP Brave Men of WW2.

For some reason Ennio Morricone copied this song and took credits for it in American Sniper as the end song Funeral. The music fits that scene in the movie perfectly , and brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it , this version by Melissa is so beautiful.
+janbouli ok,from what I learn,"il silenzio" was composed by Nini Rosso(1964),after he watched the funeral of JF Kennedy I think a year earlier(first live event ever on tv)where the US Army paid tribute, like always in a military funeral, playing "taps" (composed during the american civil war).......now Ennio Morricone used/composed few years later(still in the mid-60)his own version of "il silenzio" for an italian western movie (I think called "Ringo" something...)........now in "american sniper" Eastwood just used Morricone version..........
Браво 👏, дорогая! Ты талантище и не дуешь в трубу изо всех сил, вызывая резкий звук, который нарушает мелодию! Волшебно звучит твоя 🎺 труба, браво!!❤❤❤😊😊😊
thanks to Wikipedia I've got this info on the trumpet solo ..if it sounded "familiar" it's because you probably know as TAPS....Here's Wiki: "its thematic melody being an extension of the same Italian Cavalry bugle call used by the Russian composer Tchaikovsky to open his Capriccio Italien (often mistaken for the U.S. military bugle call "Taps".) It has become a worldwide instrumental standard, which has sold around 10 million copies." Apparently Tchaikovsky heard a bugle solo from the barracks next door to the hotel he lived in Rome.
the innocence of a child really captures this piece. It just resonates so much more, hitting all the right places of the heart and brain, places I didn't even know about.
There was a day when children aspired to greatness such as this. Please help your children to challenge themselves like this remarkable young lady. It seems like all we get on the telly these days is doom and gloom, or filth. The same bunch of criminals run the news as run the entertainment industry. This child shows us that great works are still within our reach, if only we stand against those that would wrench this beauty from our futures. Bravo Mellissa!
having been in the Italian Army, like my father and grandfather, this sound make me cry every time, this music makes me proud of my past, both personal and family, it reminds me a lot of people, a lot of friends, as it was written "brothers in arms", some are dead, others injured, this music in particular, reminds me of all of them as we were still together. Thanks Melissa, for me to remember them all yet.
Oh My Gosh!!! She just melts my heart, she is absolutely fantantasic. I hope she,,,, she can do more fantastic music. I absolutely love. I Think she would Make Nini Rosso proud for the remake of this (His) beautiful tune. Larry, Vancouver, B.C, Canada
It gives hope for the human race when a child shyly steps out of her dreams and makes music like this for the rest of us.
My husband, Mark loved this rendition by Melissa very much. He would listen to it over and over. Honey, I hope you are listening from Heaven tonight... To a great man, loving husband and father.
She plays like an angel. This ceremony is something we need to be more informed about.
The most beautiful Silence That I never heard............Bravo

thanks to Wikipedia I've got this info on the trumpet solo ..if it sounded "familiar" it's because you probably know as TAPS....Here's Wiki: "its thematic melody being an extension of the same Italian Cavalry bugle call used by the Russian composer Tchaikovsky to open his Capriccio Italien (often mistaken for the U.S. military bugle call "Taps".) Tak to prawda. Pozdrawiam. Eddy Calver wykonuje to mistrzowsko, słucham jego wykonania od 50 lat
This is NOT Taps. Il Silenzio was written by Nino Rosso in 1965.
I am So Proud of My British Heritage and There sacrifices !
What is the young lady's name? I've heard this many times, but it never fails to leave me in awe.
