    I have decluttered my home and it was feeling really great but now after about a year I’m starting to feel the clutter again. I really appreciate this perspective of beliefs and habits. Personally my habits are over buying with the belief these things will somehow make my life easier or happier. I will be reevaluating my buying habits moving forward to permanently keep out the clutter 💕

      Counting helps and challenges me: I need to declutter much more than I buy.

      I started keeping the tags of clothing (I know I'm a clothes horse) I buy and putting them in a box. I was shocked after 6 months how many items I actually bought. I will say that I had more go out than came in since I'm on a huge declutter spree. The visual of the tags is in my head for further purchases now so that the clutter won't come back.

      @@MRSancutzik, me too! I've been counting since the beginning of the year all of things I've decluttered and all the things I have bought. It helps me realize how much progress that I am making on both buying less and decluttering more!

    I like that you got down to rhe facts immediately. Some decluttering videos have a lengthy preamble first which feels like clutter. I enjoyed what you said. Habits and boundaries are important. If you don't make a mess you don't have to take extensive time to tidy it all up. The result is a consistently peaceful space.

    I am trying to create a habit of tidying daily. As I get rid of more stuff it's easier to stay on top of things. I like the suggestion from Dana from a Slob Comes Clean to literally set a timer and do a 5 minute pick up. You can give yourself permission to stop when the timer goes off and you'll be surprised how much better it looks. Make there place where they belong JUST as easy to put them there as it is to leave them out. Create a drop zone in the spot your husband is always leaving things so it looks tidy in the mean time, then remind him to put them away regularly. I also heard another suggesting to put stuff your kids leave out into a basket, that way you can enjoy a tidy home but can still make it your kids' responsibility to put things away. If they don't put items in the basket away when they get home from school, then they lose them.

      My husband doesn’t want me clearing off the top of his desk but then has the nerve to ask me to find stuff for him! His tools are wherever he used them last. With over 100 unfinished projects over the years, that could be any place on the property.

      @@michelekuhne9179 Putting stuff away can be a real struggle for people with ADHD. I was diagnosed in Decemeber and it’s such a relief to know that I’m not the only „broken” one that sometimes just can’t force one’s body to throw my socks into the laundry basket. I would love to be more organized (that’s why I’m watching videos like this one) but it’s not always laziness

    I have ADHD. Having a tidy and decluttered room is very important for me. I get super tired and overwhelmed otherwise. The ADHD of course makes it a challenge but that's why I make it a priority. I also live in a room with very little space... More like tiny.. I have too much stuff for the space but not too much stuff. I will be moving at one point luckily.. I just don't know when. But what I wanted to share was that one part of my adhd is that when I am premenstrual I have half the amount of dopamine in my brain compared to neurotypical people. The 3 days before getting my period tidying up becomes almost impossible. Almost yes but sometimes when I tidy anyway it makes my brain work waaaaaaay to hard and I get exhausted. Sometimes I let myself give up and be messy because I know that in just a few days later I will be able to tidy my room in 10-30 minutes instead of what might end taking 3 hours or a full day 😅 So I am damn tidy until those few days (or sometimes a week) hit and then I am very much am NOTTT tidy. Just wanted to explain my reason for being a tidy person that sometimes "fail" to be tidy.

    • @kellycook4347
      @kellycook4347 2 роки тому

      Ahhhh, I also realized this too. Learning your personal faults and staying focused on tasks can train your brain to get better. I have notes in Sharpie pen around the house like Order Creates Happiness and Put Things Away Right Away along with keeping a list of things to do and stick to just one task at a time. It can take years to condition yourself. Don't get discouraged.

    I think a HUGE part of "habit" is making everything easy to put away. If it's not easy to put away, you won't. Ask yourself, "If I had to find this item, where would I look for it first?" That's where it belongs. That advice I learned from Dana from A Slob Comes Clean.
    Next, organize your things in a way that works for YOUR brain, not what you see in a pretty picture somewhere. I love the way beautiful covered paper boxes look on a shelf, but I know darn well I will NEVER remember what's in them, nor want to take the time to open them to retrieve/ put something back into them. It took me a long time to realize, "If it's out of sight, it's out of my mind... And then I'll go buy another one cuz I forgot I already had one!" That means I can not use organizational tools (bins, storage pieces, etc.) that I cannot see through or at least see over the top of to know what's in them. Labels are extremely important, too, especially for opaque bins like tall baskets you can not easily see into or those paper boxes with lids. 😀
    Next, do you like having your items very specifically organized (micro), or would you rather just throw together like items under broader categories (macro)? For example, would you want a container for "Hair Stuff" with your brushes, combs, clips, hair ties, etc. all thrown into one "hair container" (but very easily put away?) Or would having little separate sections, small containers, or drawers for each little item type work better for you as your "hair container"? It's important to note that you may organize one type of item one way and a different type of item another way, depending on how you use or store certain items. For example, you may want to separate out your big purchase receipts, owners manuals, and medical bills in your files, but have just one bin that you can easily throw... in no particular order... all of your general receipts, bank slips, and canceled checks into for the whole year. There's no "right" or "wrong" way... it's what works for YOU and how YOUR mind works. Each way can be done to look beautiful, too! These concepts I learned from Cas at Clutterbug. It boils down to, are you a visual organizer or one who likes to have things hidden? And do you like things sorted in a micro way... very separated and detailed, or a macro way... still stored neatly and "contained," just in broader categories? There are four combinations of organizers and you can be a different type in different areas/situations of your home.
    Micro organizers tend to be better at remembering what is in each little box within a box and like to be able to retrieve their items more quickly than it takes to put them away. They may "pile" items until they have time to put them away "correctly" where they belong. They know which little section they put that certain hair clip in that may be inside a bigger hair container. Macro organizers are fine with just knowing their brushes and hair clips are in 'that' bin. They know which bin to go to find an item, and even though they may have to dig a little to retrieve it, they like that they can put it away very quickly. Things would never get put away if they had to take extra time be particular about where exactly they had to put each item in a container.
    I hope I'm making sense for someone out there... I'm still learning myself and finding the most difficulty with the "belief" side of things!

    Your video is spot~on this morning. Although I am far from being perfect, I absolutely try to put things back and make new plans decluttering and tossing along the way.
    My spouse is a wonderful hard-working man. however, he leaves a trail a mile wide. He never sits still even when he gets home from work. I am diplomatically trying to get his mindset into “don’t put it down put it away…” It only takes a few extra moments. 😊

    I keep finding interesting (to me, not another soul on the planet would think so) and doing 80% of the activity and as I get to the last part, or get stuck I leave it. I leave it was with all the pieces ready at hand to finish. Then I pick up another little project and then the next. By the time I am onto the fifth I have a pile of clutter being moved out of the way for yet another project. Okay, the great wall of China was not built in a day, but they didn't drop tools for a decade or two either.
    Things do get done. I complete a dozen projects before I finished the wall for the moat outside my front door. So it took 24 months. But it is done now. As soon as I get that item knocked of the top of my to do list and I ready to go. Procrastination is just a toughie to knock off. :)

    Sometimes I'm grateful for my inability to decide between 4 different citrus presses, one less gadget in the house. "If you think, a spoon would do it just as well, then you don't need the press" -my sisters comment.
    This thought of "do I have the space" is really rather new, since I live in this tiny apartment without much storage room

    But I paid $$$ for it!
    Yes, but that money is gone now!
    Get rid of it!
    Mine is not putting it away.
    One of my current goals is:
    Find a place for everything in the house, and for everything we bring into the house. Donate or trash everything else!

    I have a hard time with the word "system". Everyone thinks it is the way out and it definitely is not. Having a home for all belongings is the key component. If it doesn't have a home then the questions begin. Do we need this? Is it worth finding a place for? etc. I don't believe that anyone is "born to organize". Everyone struggles, but everyone can learn!! If someone doesn't put something away, I ask them to come to the place they left something and show them where it goes. They will then physically pick it up and put it away. 5 kids later I have an orderly home. (I do the same if someone leaves a light on as well!) Easiest for me!!

    • @MiaDanielle
      @MiaDanielle  2 роки тому +1

    I am the only person who cleans up after the people that live in my home, I got tired of complaining and repeating myself all of the time... it is so much easier and less stressful to do things on my own than to depend on others. It is not that difficult for me to take out the trash and wash the dishes and vacuum and dust when there is no clutter in the house. I watch the show Hoarders where nobody picks up after themselves or cleans anything because they are too lazy but if just one person gets off of their butt and does something it makes a big difference... I really do feel like Cinderella most of the time but it is better than living in a dirty house.

    • @MiaDanielle
      @MiaDanielle  2 роки тому +1

      I know some people who enjoy cleaning. But I do not and I just don't have it in me (personality-wise) to pick up after everyone. I also really love boundaries and equal contribution because I think it keeps my relationships running smoother
