There are bad musicians, who don't sound as good as their records. There are good musicians, whose live performances sound just as good as their studio albums. And then there's Tom Waits - a 100 times better live than recorded and never the same! He's not a man - he's a freaking planet!
Man, despite loving Tom's music for years and years, I think this is the first time I've actually sat and watched and listened to a full concert. Great stuff, beautiful music.
more than 40 years later he is one of the best. Liston to the female Versions of bis songs, for me it was the point to understand the high quality of his songs, "THE THINGS YOU CANT REMEMBER - Tell tHE THINGS YOU CANT FORGET - INCREDIBEL GOOD. TOM or IS IT HIS WIFE, KATHLIN, IT MUST BE A WISE PAIR THANKS A LOT, your raindog Holger,
A long time ago when I was around 40 or so, my landlord dropped me off at the bank so I could cash in my $520 welfare check. He commented that I looked like I was homeless. I had to thank him kindly that it wasn't so and stumbled on to the bank. I felt like Tom Waits looks that day. Now I live in Japan. My wife owns two $4,000,000 houses. Life's improved - greatly. I still miss lookin' like a bum.
The chorus reminds me of a French old song... named Mathilda, it doesn't matter, but it might be that Tom has heard it when he was a child, somewhere. Anyway, his own song is different, so great, and much more beautiful, and it gives me a thrill as if he was remembering an old life in France!
A one off & he’s great for getting rid of my tasteless in music dull associates I have to work with An amazing artist & although I don’t play him every day, but he’s certainly one of my favourites
Someone: Who's the best, say, painter of all times? Me: Oh, that's hard, so many geniuses in history, also comparing art is meaningless, different styles, aesthetics, blah blah blah Someone: Ok, and what about the best musician of all times, past, future, this world and all conceivable universes? Me: Oh, that one's easy...
“Sucking on a saxophone, the blues feel like the greens felt, like ice cubes in my coffee soul on a bus stop bench waiting to catch another ungrateful lift to the nearest sunny day and or a cold. Lobotomize the lobo, turn the screwdriver into a drink, counterclockwisdom and flex into the mirror for no good reason except for simply something to do because you’re simple. In the kitchen with a toothbrush, out of the blue the black bird started singing, not to mock the bluebird who sang in the dark but because misery was falling for someone, for something. I adore a lady, a woman, a nurse. Why before me stands the ghost of sadness and behind me is her reflection in the mirror looking past me, distraught and tying my shoelaces together to hang from the telephone wire with me in them still, in shock.” ,dan’
Aww! This is Tom, as raw as I've ever seen him. It's beautiful like a rock that captures your eye, though you can't explain why.
I was a teenager when i bought this cd when my grandma died. Music is all even when you fall. Love.

No one will ever be as cool as this man!
Amen, Buddy! Don't get caught with yer drawers down. Step right up!

I love that the tuning process was a part of the show.
I really appreciated that as well
I haven’t heard these numbers since 1978. Great stuff!
This is possibly my favorite of his preferences
Still fucking cool 😎 in 2022
