ATI HPSS-32R Siren Test, Voice and Chimes - Menominee, MI On 11/2/18

- Today I took my first ever trip to Michigan to record one of these rare ATI HPSS-32R's that Menominee, MI has. This siren is located at the sheriff's office in downtown Menominee, MI. I believe that this siren replaced the Alertronic 6000R that is further down the street on 10th Ave. Menominee had one of the earliest systems of ACA Alertronic's on record. The Alertronics were ACA's first version with the chain driven rotator opposed to the later style. That system was replaced over 16 years ago with this current system of ATI HPSS-32R's. None of the Alertronics in Menominee are still attached to power and one of them has even had its rotator chain fall out. There are three of these ATI's in Menominee and this is one of the two that have been confirmed to work the other is located at the high school on the west side of town. Sam (Openblast64) recorded the High School siren in 2017, and can somewhat be heard in this video. He also attempted to record the one on the way north side of town, but it failed in 2016. We believe that it is either broken or that it is too far away from the radio tower to pick up the tones. With these sirens, it is impossible to be able to tell if the siren worked based on the position of rotation before and after the test concludes. These sirens are programmed to return to the "home" position after the test concludes. Anyway, Menominee tests their sirens every Friday at Noon. Thanks for Watching please rate comment and subscribe!

Nice chimes. Very calming and relaxing sounds. Good radio voice on that siren! Love those echoes!
Those are ATI HPSS Maybe They're Chimes test

Rumor has it that Susquehanna Nuclear had these back in 2007. They later sued ATI for poor performance of the sirens and quality issues. At the time they (PP&L who no longer operates the plant) sued they had yet to disconnect all their Thunderbolts and STH-10’s and recommissioned them while they removed all the ATI’s. The next year they had a system of ASC T-121’s installed by ANS and the old Federal system was removed afterwards. Certainly cool to see these HPSS-32Rs considering ATI discontinued these and the HPSS16R last year.
firefreak57 You would be correct- I was growing up in the area as the system was replaced. PPL spent over a year trying to troubleshoot issues with the ATI’s, and by the time FEMA and NRC came down for the final inspection, they ended up rejecting the whole system, and that’s when PPL sued. ANS replaced the ATI’s in 2008 and the new T-121s were placed in service fairly quickly. I believe David Fritz (Rheems1) has a picture floating around somewhere showing one of their Thunderbolts with an HPSS32R next to it, and I also have a handful of old pictures somewhere from around 2011 after the T-121s were installed with some of the Thunderbolts still standing.
ATI is known for manufacturing Sirens, that barely meets the requirements. Rotation of these Sirens is weird. These Sirens usually have blown sound drivers, and only few of these drivers can withStand some of the tones of these Sirens. This siren has multiple problems: Blown drivers, some drivers activate earlier than others, resulting in this "repeating" effect, and the siren is About to Fall from the pole..
@@ScarOne314 ATI is pretty bad. They’re unreliable, they’re bad quality, and they’re not really that loud.
@@rainyrec what country is ATI based in? China?
@@ScarOne314 That "repeating" effect is actually echo. The sound is echoing. Notice how at 1:22 the "repeating" effect is no longer heard when the siren is facing the camera, because the echo is drowned out by the much louder sound of the siren itself.
This sound is so calm
The failer 32R has rotated in the past few years, so I believe it's been fixed.
Just Plain Weird Goat It is impossible to tell they rotate back to home position after tests.
FSThunderboltfan1000 It’s pointed a slightly different direction than it was a few years back.
There's a broken siren next to this! When I was younger I was fascinated by this stuff for some reason
The chimes remind me of the grandmother clock in my living room
Why does every youtuber that records tornado sirens write in the description "do not copy" it's annoying
There are many people who steal people's videos of sirens. Don't fucking complain.
@@SolidSableye oh, I've seen videos of sirens that were stolen, but the problem could be solved with that warning (no pun intended)
This is the good type of the ati

Can’t wait.
The way this rotates is weird. It finishes playing and then turn around to different distance and starts playing again. ATI HPSS are weird warning systems overall for me.
Ahem definitely didn’t copy Whelen’s designs
Ahem whelen definitely didn't copy ACA's Allertronic designs
@@user-ds6dn5nr4s The HPSS-32R looks nearly identical to the Alertronic RE-1600R.
@@rainyrec but is black
@@MonkeyFilmProductions It's just a color, not a model.
@@user-ds6dn5nr4s i think whelen came first
I hear this every Friday at 12:00 pm
Lol, Dirt Cheap (retail store in the US southeast) uses that first tone for its dressing rooms lol.
Going to be good
I mite go to a STL-10 today at noon
Thunderbolt 1000T Nice!
Turns out I forgot so yeah
Why is it not rotating
Bro no one even knows the fact this is an early HPSS-16r
This this is is only only a a test test
this this is is a a test test XD, it keeps repeating

@@whoadudestop ok thanks
Very rare!
Yes.
Go to the one by the fire department
Tristan Gillett Where is the one near the fire department? I only know of the three ATI’s in menominee.
45.106930, -87.606643 Got confused and thought there was one at the FD. I was trying to say that you should go to the allertronic at the coords I just posted.
@@utahsirens I did end up stopping by there and it appears as if the power has been disconnected. I think the ATI in this video replaced it.
