Tetra Whisper Air Pump Review

- This is my Aquarium Tetra Whisper Air Pump review. The aquarium tetra air pump reviews are very good but there are better options. Tetra hasn't changed their design in 20 years and there are better designed pumps. If your looking for a quiet air pump, I would check out the links below. Air pumps can be somewhat annoying if they are too loud. Hopefully this review helps others when researching air pumps.

Tetra whisper air pumps are my mvp. They’re cheap, absolutely silent from more than 4 feet away, and put out plenty of air. Absolutely great pump, by far the best one available
Thanks a lot. I just picked up a little female betta, and I'm setting up a tank this size for her. If I decide to get her a roomy, I'll get a bigger tank and transfer this. It looks adequate in power for at least a 3 gallon one.
I just bought one of these for my two aquariums because they got rated number one for quietness and airflow! I’ve bought a few Aqua ones a while ago and they’re noisy airflow isn’t the best and they shake around all over the place! Looking forward to my tetra whisper air pump (I got a dual action) it’ll be here next week! 😀
I bought one 2 days ago and returned it today
Tetra air pumps rock, in my 40+ years of fish keeping I've had the old white ones, the Tetra Luft pump, and my current Tetra 30-60 gal. I've had for ten years now. So yeah, I like them.
On the cheap, the aqua-culture from Walmart are ok.
Man, I wish I could have an aquarium....you really are passionate about yours..."Tanks" for the great video!...
I have the same one and placed it in the tank cabinet,it was a little noisy so i put a small towel under it and that seemed to reduced the noise alot, however i don't think its putting out enough air. Planning on upgrading it.
I just bought one today and I love it so far so quiet
Hey question buddy ive been watching for a few years im having trouble getting enough air into my 75+20 hex im currently running a large pawfly 254gph and an aquaneat 300 gph going into a gang valve running to 2 large double bubble pillar colluseums from petsmart 1 60 sponge filter 1 150 sponge suction filter 1 20 sponge filter and the 60 sponge and the 20 sponge are always a trickle ive added knobs and valve and can play this thing like an instrument but not seem to evenly get enough flow
I have used many Tetra air pumps over 30 years of keeping many fish tanks and many fish, I have attempted buying repair kits and after a few pain in the butt attempts, I just buy a new one when the diaphragm dries up and cracks. They used to make a LUFT air pump that was $40 30 years ago and that was worth fixing but these newer ones are powerful, quiet, inexpensive, and last long enough to pay for themself
Thanks for the great videos 👍. I have question...
Can i use a bigger 4 way (600L/h) airpump in my 20 gal tank and run it on low setting? Will it be ok?
The 60's with dual outlet are like 12.99 on chewy and move a ton of air for how quite they are
They are only $16 today
Glad you’re doing better buddy
Any experience of A. the noise and B. the air volume output of the two smallest models in this line of air pumps?
I want the most quiet of the two, given the smallest is not totally weak (small, dual sponge filter in 40cm/16 inches of water).
i so worried about the tube coming off. i accidentally bump the pump and the tube came off and i realize with 2 hours there was no air flowing my tank and i worried that the fish may have died. how do you ensure it stays on?
Hi Chris ,I have tetra pump in bedroom, so quiet .
Nice and cheap. Great.
GREAT VIDEO
Do you think the 100 could run 3 sponge or dual filters?
Peace ✌️
Hi Chris, I recently purchased the tank you used in the video. The pump in the tank is super loud and driving me crazy. Thank you for this video.
Always loved them !1
What’s the size tank you have at 5:05?
Bought a tetra 100 air pump for my 75 gallon discus tank in December 2022 this morning woke up and the air stone wasn’t working but pump was running but not producing enough air, so just received a new pump same one so we shall see, if I have to replace this pump in 6 months I will begin to question the reliability of tetra air pumps beyond 6 months of use.
I just got this but it states to put pump above water which sucks i want to put it in the cabinet under the tank. I put a check valve on it do i still have to have it higher than the tank?
I had great experiences with it, it's extremely quiet
i have two 100 tetra air whisper that run undergravel filter on 55, and two 125 hydro luster sponge filters they work great and quiet
I have lots of these and they last. I love them!
I have @ 2 gallon tank will this work ? Thanks
Thanks! Does this pump come with accessories, or is it just the pump in the package.
As someone who owns this air pump, I can attest that the name “Whisper” is undeserving. But then again, the name “Loud Hum” might hurt sales a bit
I highly recommend you insulate that gradge door in the winter that's going to cause a fortune to run I bet the top of the gradge isn't insulated eather
Ok so I saw the air pump on top of your tank,I have a turtle but also have fish in the tank so I want to provide air for it,I'm so glad I watched your video, thank you,!
I have been using my tetra air whisper for 8yrs!!! Quiet still!
So these don't need to be above the water level?
tetra filter is not bad, I have one used for years, it’s the most affordable filter to use and replace. Any suggestions what brand should I buy?
Thanks for the review, which I found generally helpful. Suggestion: Give viewers more than a second or two of quiet to listen to the sound of the pump.
But I also have ran the 60g sponges on the 10's & 20's no problem tons of air for the size
I am planning on buying one and am new to fsh world-havw 10 gallon tank with a plankat betta
Any tips on what I can use diy to replace the little filter disk on the bottom?
I just use a part of a cotton ball and stuff it in.
So I counted and I have 18 of these. I recently switched to all tetra whisper after. My Fluval 0.5 , 1.0 , & 2.0 all quit within weeks of each other after about 18mo. I was pretty bummed but then my buddy said the 60's on these were cheap so I switched over all but 2 dual outlet adjustable eheims Wich are gr8 longevity wise but don't move as much air.
My 60 lasted a year I think
Can I use it for powering 6 aquariums
I just ordered mine on Amazon too!! 🎉
Do you have to buy anything separate when you buy one? I need one for my 55g. I’m new to the fish world
Yes,you need to get some air line tubing and an airstone.you also need a check valve if your tank is kept below.
I work from home, and I'm on the phone a lot. I'd like to set up a tank next to my desk, but only if I can be sure the people I talk to won't hear noise from it.
Will have to get one. I have a job pro silent 200 the humming drives me nuts
My tank is near me in my study, which I like to keep drone / hum free. I'm hoping this one is quiet enough. That's subjective, I'll see when it comes.
Best bang for buck air when u price match chewy at PetSmart u can get the 20-60 for 8-12$ so I go for 40-60's for the dual outlet
I just spent the last couple months setting up and stocking my 55 gallon tank. I had a whisper air pump however this past weekend the airline disconnected from the pump over night. The water drained from my tank onto the floor in my living room through the disconnect line and in the morning the tank was empty and all my fish died.
That was disappointing and devastating. I was so upset and pissed if at the same time.
Well that’s just unlocked a new fear. I didn’t even know that could happen.
@@biscuitjuice me either. I didn’t think I’d be so upset about a few dead fish, but I was heartbroken. I really didn’t care about the water damage. That was easy enough to clean up / fix. I was just really upset about the fish I killed.
Surprisingly, my Plecos lived. I was totally surprised to see one twitching in the empty tank. I grabbed him and threw him immediately into my 5 gallon isolation / medical tank. I checked my second Pleco and same thing. Two tough little warriors!
To avoid this from happening again, I zip-tied and gorilla glued my tubes to the pump. Yeah don’t think the tube will vibrate off of the valve now.
@@youmadbro7733 Plecos are pretty amazing. About 5 years ago I had one jump out of a quarantine tank in the night (through a tiny gap 🙄) and I found him on the floor the next morning looking quite dried up. No idea how long he’d been there, but I dropped him back in the tank anyway just to make sure he’d passed on. But he twitched back to life within a few minutes, and he’s still alive today.
I’m sorry about the rest of your fish. I’m definitely going out today to buy some zip ties and glue, I don’t think my poor pleco could handle another stint out of the water.
Always use a check valve.
This would of never happened :(
100000% users fault.... You ALWAYS put check valve in the line. And obviously you didn't get the hose on far enough lol.... Noway at all your situation was the fault of the air pump 🤷
My Tetra’ keep tearing their diaphragms. I have used a 60 and a 100. Both failed. The 60 diaphragms tore after 1 1/2 years and the 100’s tore in less than a year. I don’t suppose they have replacement diaphragms.
Only ones I use, they’re perfect. Got the 100, 60, and 2 20s
Tetra hang on back filters are great after you fully optimize them. I never run them stock.
First and great review
I like it! I think I'm going to buy it, arigato!🔥👍
for a nano i would go for a hygger they are silent pizo electric but these are great had them for years cheaper and better than eheim or fluval imo
😂😂😂😂😂 you made me laugh with the fly 😂
Where's the other end of the air line?
Will she purr in a 10 gally?
Hello if my small fish tank comes with a filter do I still need to add one of these in it. Or the filter should be OK by itself.
You’ll be okay with the hang on the back filter. This sponge filter + air pump system both cleans and blows bubbles to help add oxygen to the tank, so it’s 2 in 1.:) Your filter should be fine though!:)
@@albertpaints ok thanks
Bro I got that one air pump u did a review on a while back. It’s the loudest thing. It’s louder than my hang on backs
Lmao - which one?
The echo plus duel output
Open it. Loosen the 2 motor screws. Move it a hair. Tighten
I plan on buying one because PetSmart has a great deal right now
Always use a check valve for a standard use of air pump
I have a Tetra Whisper air pump that's over 30 years old. It's dark blue and is shaped like a box unlike this one. It has two outlets and still works perfect. It's still very quiet.
Baught one today rated for 40 gallons, got home and test it out, got my booths back on and return the product , that's to show you how bad it was! LOUD...
Mine is so loud and I just bought it I’m not sure what to do
It’s a 20 gallon one
I have one in each of my ten gallons
Squirrel! Stay focused man. ;-) Thanks for the review.
5 bucks on Amazon can’t beat it
i just send one back. it wasnt silent at all.
At 4:30 scene from MIB
Iam following you because you killed the fly..or at least tried too..🤣
.
Hello, I have good, experience with Whisper Quiet air pump
They, won't let you, down. They'll keep working
Until, they can't bubble, anymore.
The quietest air pumps I have ever used is Eheim
i have this pump. it is very quiet.
Just bought a replacement Tetra air pump, absolute noisy junk. Vibrates like crazy and very noisy. Returning to Amazon. Looking to get USB nano air pump
I have the tetra whisper 40 and it isn’t quiet at all. It does the job but it loud. Disappointed in the sound. I can hear the darn thing across our house. I tried taken it apart and tightening screws and loosening them and checked the diaphragm and still loud. It is the motor in it that’s making the noise. I can wrap the darn thing in a towel and still loud. Whoever thinks they are quiet is deaf as all get out or other pumps are way way way louder than this one. I going to exchange mine at petsmart and try another one but I going to try it out before I leave the store. I might have gotten a bad one but it is a bad joke. Like someone’s nickname is called little joe and you meet them and they are 600 pounds. Basically what mine is. It isn’t a whisper. Will wake the dead.
Can you send me one for my 5 gal fish tank. Thanks!
And these are super quit. I breed Africans and have no central air so I use a ton of these 60's running 2 60g sponges on most of my tanks I have 22-25 tanks goin at all times
Unless you have a physical receipt or registered it, the company will not honor any warranty claim. Buy online, don't register, you're sol.
Is the best, silent low cost electric bill and last for ever.
DONT BUY the 100 gal version! As having purchased five at once they all go bad within 6 months to 1 year. The diaphragm's break they're made of bad rubber that cracks and rips. Tetra will not warranty them even if it's under one year. That's why they are so cheap. 8 out of the 10 diaphragms (in 5 pumps) broke in under 1 year
