The Ice Climbers have potential to be one of the most exciting characters in Smash, their extremely unique design as a character allows for some of the most creative and powerful combos possible in the right hands.
They may have their weaknesses, but when a good Ice Climbers is on point, there's not much else like it in Smash. (I highly recommend watching Wobbles at Evo 2013 if you're interested in seeing ICs at their finest)

Why can’t more ICs mains play like wobbles and Fly? They were so entertaining to watch.
Cause nowadays, you can't get far like that. Those dair chaingrabs? Everyone on high level SDI's that. Handoffs? RNG, unless you are at the ledge. It's just not a good pay off for getting a grab on a good player, which is really hard.
Handoffs aren’t guaranteed
It's easier to tap A than to know how to desync and do handoffs
If the ICs freeze glitch wasn't banned that would be all you see because it's even easier than wobbling. They have the same end result, get grab take stock repeat. Somehow these IC players have it in their mind that *NOT* being guaranteed a stock every time you land a grab is a _bad_ thing, or that it's _unfair_ despite ICs being the only character with a guaranteed grab kill. It's stupid how many times I've seen people argue that forcing ICs to use handoff grabs isn't fair JUST because it's not a 100% guaranteed kill like wobbling. That's just circular reasoning; how is wobbling even fair in the first place?
Because they want to win.
because the optimal play for ICies is to wobble because it is literally the most powerful punish in the entire game. this is why we should ban it, there is no good reason to do anything else with the character

People that can play Ice Climbers this well have so much respect in my book. They actually play instead of just wobbling. Wobble-banned tournaments are a good thing, cause they negate the cheesiest strategy in the game

He couldn't wobble. At least, not in tourney. There's footage of him attempting to wobble in set but he drops it then do handoffs. He said if he could do wobbling consistently he would.

YOU CAN'T ESCAPE!!!
If you try to mash out of grab, you usually press jump on X and Y, and if you are using the left stick, you might be pressing Tap Jump if you slide it upwards on the mash. Because of this, most of the meteor cancels can’t be done because you were “tech trapped” from the mashing, which is why I think most of the meteor cancels are missed.
Same with the SDI and Di, if you are mashing out of grab, and they try to do some of the options like waveland Fsmash, you aren’t really expecting it, and you weren’t even in position to DI or SDI correctlt because you were already focused on trying to mash out and not on the follow-ups.
Are the hand offs escapable?

See, one of the reasons I hate wobbling is that it's _visually boring:_ the two players just stand in place until the IC decides to kill them. Hand-offs use the same mechanic and accomplish basically the same thing, but they're WAY more interesting to watch, so I like them.
They are also 100 times as hard and 1000 times more inconsistent.
They aren't basically the same thing because it's harder and riskier to do them

Handoffs are definitely cooler to watch but its just as powerful as wobbling. As shown here, you can't escape if the icies know what they're doing.
They don't accomplish the same thing unless you are at the ledge. And, before you say "then ICs gameplan can be cornering their opponents", they can't do that against any viable character.

I wonder what melee ice climber players think of Smash Ultimate ice climbers. Since while you have to wait a second to regrab, they also get the huge buff from the buffering, as it makes desync combos more consistent.

@@scarffoxandfriends9401 my comment was aimed at the people interrested in your comment/discussion. Because ice climbers in Ultimate don't have a huge presence in the big scene these combos are probably new to many.
As an IC player who chooses not to wobble, Ultimate ICs are interesting. The change to perform desyncs out of grabs are hard to get used to because the timing is different. I think it's because of how I perform my desyncs in Melee and to an extent Brawl. For me the buffer system works and works against me since buffering didn't exist in Melee. Eventually Ultimate handoffs will become second nature in how I used them in Melee and Brawl.

Their meta isn't going to evolve. Hand-offs are objectively worse than wobbling and neither of them deal with their mediocre neutral game when they aren't able to land a grab. People who were carried by wobbling are going to plummet in tournament placings and more than likely, Ice Climbers will just disappear from high placing. The wobbling ban isn't about high level play. Its about low level play where wobbling tends to let low level Ice Climbers dominate their peers. A questionable ban, but if it keeps a local community alive, whatever.

Of course they could ban handoffs if they wanted to. They could reduce Ice Climbers grab game to just tech chases and Popo being the only one grabbing characters like off of D-throw. All that needs to happen is for Hand offs to be almost as effect at noob stomping as wobbling.

In half of the situations where Handoffs are done, a wobble could've been done for a guaranteed kill.
Yet people like Wobbles STILL choose to handoff because they know it's far faster, cooler and better for the game than a slow irritating kill you'd get off an infinite combo.
