Thank you for un-complicating this for me! I've watched at least 7 other videos that really discouraged me from even trying this. Yours restored my confidence!
This is such a helpful tutorial! Your results looked really great. I’d also love to see a boxy blazer fitted to a busty body, as you mentioned, since that’s my issue with any men’s clothes I buy to refit for my own use.
This is the clearest and most useful tutorial I've seen. I was able to follow it to alter a $7 tweed blazer from the thrift store to fit me. Starting on the second blazer tonight ☺️
This video scares me a bit because my actual sewing projects for now are « face masks » and « eyeballing yolo quite questionable sofa cover ». But I saw this amazing grandpa wool jacket at the thrift store and I really want to try your tutorial. It’s exactly what I am looking for.
This is exactlywhat I was looking for! I just picked up a men's wool brazer at a thrift market so I'd have one for interviews but I definitely need this tutorial on resizing! Thank you!!
I ❤️ doing a men’s wool blazer (40) as my winter coat. I take the middle back in that makes the jacket and sleeves hit just right on me but still a bit oversized. I also add elastic to cinch in the waist with or without the use of a belt. I colorful scarf and leather gloves, I’m always ask where did I get it!
You did such a great job job but this was so much like watching surgery to me, I got the urge to cry halfway through cause I feel like I can't do it. 😭
I didn't think I could do it before I tried either. If you have a way to buy a blazer for really cheap and get one for free that someone doesn't want anymore, that will help you not worry so much about messing up.
🌸 Do what I do buy old ones to practice on Just explore, see how it’s made and put it back together I get cool sewing books for just £1 from charity shops and it has lots of diagrams etc Once you get used to it and practice, you will be like pro in no time 🎉😊
I’m at Aww😮 I can’t believe I just saw this women turn a man blazer at the thrift store to a women fitted blazer!!! Liked and subscribed I hope she deserves the recognition she deserves a Million subscribers 💯💯💯💯🤟🏽
My father passed away 4 years ago and I am just getting into getting ready to donate his suits and his coats and I decided to keep one of the suits a herringbone suit that I really love and these videos are helping because I'm going to get altered for me at the tailor but I may be able to do it myself watching some of these videos thank you for this.
Great job. Gonna try to thrift a men's wool blazer and try this. Recently i found a stash of remnants in my basement thrifted about 20 years ago and found 3 full jackets in pieces that i remade. They turned out amazing (exceptfor linings, whicjh i need a lotmire practice with, good thing they dont show 😊). I dont know how to upload pictures for you, or i would. These pieces are so cute, and i enjoyed every minute of them. I also took a dress that i never wore that was too big and made a short suit out of it. The shorts are a little too short fir me and i will have to wear tights underneath them. Just hope i have the guts to wear them ( 68 years old and these are very young looking). But the suit is adorable! Today, i started working on a pair of jean like pants from a pattern, but im having problems understanding the pocket construction and ive been stopped cold. Hopefully it will get through to me on how to construct. Your videos have inspired me tremendously and kept me from being bored in retirement. Just wish i had occasion to wear them all😊.
I just purchased a vintage blazer that is only slightly too big for me and was looking for tutorials on how to take it in. I'm so excited I found yours, it's very well paced and well explained. Feels doable. Thank you!
Yes!!! - too late for me, I have pulled apart a man's jacket made from Harris Tweed with complicated inside tailoring and.... I cut too much off the sleeves. I've kept it, still all in pieces, thinking that there must be a way to put it together. The material is too good not to try. Next time I will follow these steps. I just love my jacket, the fabric is fascinating. Men get such good fabrics and tailoring.
Oh I really like it! Nice job! For a future project, I would love it if you did a thrift flip on an old faux fur coat. I recently bought one that fits around my hips but is far to big on my upper body and shoulders. (Gotta love that body and size diversity in vintage clothing...) When I wear it looks like I am going to a masqurade as a sterotypical pimp, insulting just about everyone. I need some inspo on how to upcycle it and make it feel a little modern or at least timeless.
You made this look so easy! I found a full-length wool coat (down to my ankles) at a thrift store for $6!!!? Looking forward to narrowing the shoulders and I might replace the black lining with something more flashy! Thanks for the video! :)
Thank you so much! I'm a small individual so even women's blazers can be big on me. I'm nervous I may mess up the jacket I recently got, but it may turn out okay too.
Good morning Queen of up cycling, thank you so much for the easy alteration for a mens to womens blazer. I will let you know how I do. Thanks for the help/guidance.
ohhhhhh epic!! I found a smashing mens suit jacket.. 5 buck... so am at the moment taking it apart!! ( I have long arms too and ladies are always too short) wish me luckkkkk wheee
Just took seam completely out of my 23 yo sons Rockawear Jean blazer I hoarded since he was 12 and wore on Easter. It fits me so I want to upcycle and was looking for ideas. I probably shoulda watched this 1st
Thank you- that’s the best how to video I’ve seen on this topic- you explain everything very clearly and so well. The outcome of that blazer was spot on. Nice find 😊
Thank you for this amazing turtorial. 👏👏👏It is so rare to see a decent work like this and honestly I am tired to watch people ruining decent things with "hot glue" / "no sewing" hacks. Nice results require a bit more patience to details. 😊
This is fantastic. You did a great job, made it interesting to watch, and the result is absolutely lovely. I'm a big fan of thrifting clothes and making them work for you. Fast fashion is such a problem, and this is a much more sustainable and responsible way to build your wardrobe.
Hi there. I have an apple shape and just bought a similar blazer. I’m taking it to a tailor soon and would love tips (how long should it be, where should it hit so I look balanced and not wide).
Amazing job! Thank you! You inspire me so much. I’m new to sewing and you give me that spark of hope that one day soon I’ll be able to do what you do. You look great btw!
I'm so glad I found your video 😊 I'm also regularly shopping male shirts, trousers, and jackets in thrift stores as I'm tired of having wrists and ankles poking out (I'm 5ft 11) 😜 Also your comment on buttons made my day 😄 I mean, why should we care about buttons on the left or on the right? they're going to serve their purpose regardless!
Thank you so much for this 👏🏾 I’m having such a hard time finding blazers that fit in the shoulder and arms!!! I’m so not with that oversized dad blazer look so now I’m cool with purchasing the men’s blazers!!
How randown, I peeped that label, I used to work in the buying department for Austin Reed many tears ago, a British Menswear company. I have a couple of mens blazers I would like to try this out on. Great jobs as usual. Always love when I come across a video of yours I haven't yet seen!
You got my attention at “buy a men’s blazer, women’s blazers (sleeves) aren’t long enough for my arms” SAME! I hate it! Why is everything so short?? Inseam, sleeves, etc!!
been meaning to comment for such a long time! You are a goddess of sewing inspiration to me! Hope to maybe see more take in projects for petite girls like myself, anything from sweater adjustments, skirts, dresses, pants. You did amazingly with your mini runway collection btw!!! I love all the puffy-sleeved creations you did so far, it's like you read my mind!
Thanks so much!! Yes, I mostly thrift bigger clothes and take them in. It's a lot easier than adding fabric. You'll definitely see some more easy altering videos in the new year. 👍🏽
Thank you for this video! My husband is about to retire from the Air Force and he has extra blues uniforms. My daughter wants me to take his blazer part of the uniform and make it smaller to fit her. She has also requested to cut the bottom of the blazer at her waist and with the fabric of the blazer turn it into a peplum. Like a riding coat. IDK how I’m gonna do that. Can you make a video to help me out?
This is so great! I never would have dared consider a project like this before seeing your video. How did you decide to remove the side seam excess from the back only? i.e. what is the thought process you go through there?
Hello Can you create a video quilting your own fabric or create a bomber jacket from a quilt. I also have a question about layering if I want a quilted jacket how do I get that warm & puffy look to fill in the middle
It can be very scary! I did a new one for this week's video and I was definitely scared to cut it up. But, it turned out really good so it was worth it.
I went to Salvation Army and found a blazer that had the matching tag of the day (meaning it was 99¢.) That way, if I screw it up, it's not much of a loss. Just remember to salvage the fabric and use it for something else!
The blazer look fabulous now, but the instructions were a bit quick to keep up with, will have to watch it several more times I think. Would really like to khow why you took all the excess off just one side of the sleeve, rather than equally off both? What difference would it make? (guessing it does or you wouldn't have bothered). Gorgeous blazer, wishing now I hadn't given away the raw silk jacket neither of my sons wanted, it was cream and beautiful :(
I have this same question! I thought it might make a difference in how the sleeve fits into the arm scythe (I think that’s what it is called). My thought was maybe it keeps it from being turned too much around the arm once it is sewn back into place.
Love this video! New subscriber here. I just bought a vintage merino/silk blend men's jacket today. It's so soft it feels like cashmere so it had to come home with me. I'm busty so I like a roomy coat. This jacket definitely is. The only thing I'm not happy with is how low the armscye comes. Ugh. I don't think there's anyway to fix that so I'll just have to deal. Anyway, I think I can get away with shortening the sleeves and nipping in the waist a bit. Thanks for the inspiration.
Amazing stuff! I would love to know how to upcycle a men’s blazer to fit a broad shouldered, large chested woman but it needs to be shortened too as it’s for a corporate dress code rather than street style. I know the pockets cause a problem so can we just unpick the pockets?
I have a women's blazer that I want to take in but the lining has a tear going across the shoulder. Is there a way to fix that? If so, could you do a video showing how to take in a blazer and reline it?
It is very interesting to me the part you are talking about "direction if buttons,"... I am a man always looking for best materials to upcycle for men.. Always find myself concern about the buttons.. I think it different for a woman, but I am trying to give up in that idea.. I think people will notice that I am wearing a woman's blouse, even though I try to masculinice as much as I can... what do you think?
"The inner seems are your business" Yes :D lol
“the inner seams are your business” yesssssss 💅

This is exactly why I was looking for. I've seen so many men blazer on my second hand stores but I don't really know what to do with it. ❤️❤️😐
Yayyy! I'm so glad I could help!! 😁
Thank God for people like you. I couldn’t do this to save my life. I get overwhelmed just watching you do it.

Just what I needed! I'm really afraid to this though cause I don't have a sewing machine so I need to do things by hand lol.
This is exactlywhat I was looking for! I just picked up a men's wool brazer at a thrift market so I'd have one for interviews but I definitely need this tutorial on resizing! Thank you!!
I just upcycled an old blazer into a cropped blazer and skirt set. I love how it turned out
Sounds like
Rocket Science in your sleeve description. Beautiful job with the jacket. Maybe tall and 2x sizes for another video?
This came out so awesome. Great work!!
Thank you 💕

Cool....☺ Michael looks so smart ❣ Thank you for the Tutorial 💯
I'm plus size. I wish I could find one large enough to have this done. I envy you
Great tutorial. Why did you decide to take in the sleeve on one side of the seam rather than both sides?
Gonna try this on one of my blazers this week. Super helpful video!

Can you create a video quilting your own fabric or create a bomber jacket from a quilt. I also have a question about layering if I want a quilted jacket how do I get that warm & puffy look to fill in the middle
This is great! I have 3 men’s blazers from the thrift store to work on! 🙌

@@raszzlecrafts1595 How did it turn out?

Question. When you reduced the sleeve why did you only remove fabric from one side? Did that shift the seam?

Thank you 💕
Amazing stuff! I would love to know how to upcycle a men’s blazer to fit a broad shouldered, large chested woman but it needs to be shortened too as it’s for a corporate dress code rather than street style. I know the pockets cause a problem so can we just unpick the pockets?
Great job!!
This is amazing. How long did it take you? Thank you for sharing these skills.
A few hours. Thanks!
Please do fitting for larger chested women. Commercial jackets just never fit properly so I really want to fit my own using a mens jacket
I’m so inspired by this!!!! Totally being added to my to do list!
Yayyy! I'm so glad!! 😁
Would love to know how to make a men's quarter zip fit me better
Omg it would take me 12 years to make this!
You did a great job.
