- Mussorgsky wrote 'Pictures at an Exhibition' after visiting an exhibition of paintings by his late friend Viktor Hartmann in 1874. This sixteen part suite is extremely well suited to be performed by a symphonic band: after a series of nice solo passages the work ends with a fantastic apotheosis 'The Great Gate of Kiev'.

It sounds even more epic when it is played by a concert band!
