There is a point where I see a violinist smile as if he knows they have nailed this performance
Finally, a proper classical saxophonist with a rich sound full of harmonics, with a timbre that blends in with the other instruments and doesn't stand out too much. Bravo
As an amateur classical saxophonist, I can appreciate his sound very much. I had the chance to play this with a civic orchestra, and enjoyed it very much despite sitting through a whole concert with only one movement of music in which I could contribute. It was absolutely worth it!
It was a pleasure. Well said.
maybe you'd like to check out the version of the hr-Sinfonieorchester (german radio orchestra based in Frankfurt), the saxophone part is amazing as well, just like the whole concert :)
This is Geir Holm, of the Norwegian wind ensemble.
Thanks, Mr.Mussorgsky!
Thanks, Mr. Ravel!
Bravissimo Oslo Phil!
P😂
The musician playing the saxophone did an amazing job! Such a smooth and clear tone. I absolutely love it!
It is never enough to be regretted that Mussorgsky died so young
This wonderful and comfortable performance is off th charts
Of course it takes years and years of hard work to even tryout for such an orchestra, but the amount of strenuous work involved in playing is remarkable. Somewhere in heaven Mussorgsky is fist-pumping.
The cinematography in this video is astounding! I wish all recordings paid this much attention to the visual aspect of the performance!!
This performance moved me to tears-the best I've seen & heard. Maestro Bychkov's expressions are priceless. Bravo!
At 35:25, the joy I see from this young violinist will stay with me forever!
I woke up with the first few notes of this piece playing in my head on a loop. I'd never listened to it in full until today, and wow! what a lovely composition, and rendition by Oslo Philharmonic!
Didn’t know Ben Franklin played alto sax
😂😂
And Andrew Zimmern plays tuba. Okay.
can't think of a better way to spend an hour and 35 mins and 52 secs. bravo
It's only just short of 36 minutes.
@@spikespa5208Maybe they listened to it 2+ times in a row back to back. I myself certainly did plus other versions. This work is fascinating to me. It moves me just the same as it moved me back when I was a small kid.
we played this in orchestra several years ago. Amazing piece. I had only played the Great Gate before. We're playing it again this season. I'm looking forward to playing my new contrabassoon!
Although not listed as one of the top 10 major symphony orchestras (Boston, NY Philharmonic, Philadelphia, Cleveland, Chicago -- London, Vienna, Berlin, Concertgebouw, Philharmonia --- the OSLO symphony has fast become my favorite. I've now enjoyed 4 videos of this fabulous orchestra and each conductor's interpretation. Kudos to its members!
As Leonard Bernstein said way before he die, six contactors have six different opinions, and every one of them thinks is opinion is the correct one.
Absolutely perfect tempo achieved for this challenging orchestral work. Everyone deserves a Bravo!
Holly mother of god, what a wind session we have right heare! Thouse fellows are AWSOME!!! Everyone are professional as an everest mountain, but to me, the winds are superb! Thank you to all involved ones!!!
… an “everest mountain” ? Is that a typo or a thing? It sounds cool and that’s what music is about, right?
@@robkunkel8833 it is the way a compared such talent, high as everest mountain
For my Animusic friends out there, 0:07, 16:06, 25:55 and 29:36 are the sections you are looking for. Amazing recording!
hello fellow Animusic friend!
Chat was that a Cathedral Picture moment?????
WOW. Perfect in every way! Great brass players, great woodwinds, great strings, great everyone! And Bychkov's interpretation is perfect. It's so rare to find a performance that has it all, including my own personal preferences!
Bravi a tutti! Beautiful performance!
Bravo Bychkov and Oslo Philharmonic! Beautiful performance with great precision and expression. Thank you for posting!
Beautifully done by Maestro Semyon Bychkov and the Oslo Philharmonic--Bravo Tutti!
So many delightful moments in Mussorgsky's work-the great melodies and astonishing harmonic palette never gets stale....And never fails to please the listener!
Lack of over conducting is a talent. This sounds beautiful. Thank you.
Attending a concert with this splendid orchestra tomorrow Dvorak 8. symphony. So excited!
After action report, it was a great performance!
33:40 At last! Somebody who looks like they’re having fun! Joy!
Let only music caress your hearts fans & never let bad guys win to screw us the joy of life, Russia is this gorgeous as Mussorsky used to see it, enjoying for real, pictures and paintings in a Museum exhibition, the adventure is this exciting...I would suggest more young composers .. translate pictures on musical notes, put them feelings there on scores and let them sound just this good, classical composers are still a never ending inspiration, big loving hug all fans in Oslo...let them web technologies work for you guys, wishing you everybody enjoy new partnerships in 190 countries world wide like true Olympic champions. ..so no war disputes could ever keep us apart 🎉❤🎉
Bychkov is a great musician very underrated
Great performance by Maestro Bychkov. His Promenade actually sounds like someone walking though a gallery and casually stopping to peruse the paintings, whereas many conductors make it sound like a foot race. Who runs through an art gallery?
My cousin runs through art galleries. Oh, that was a rhetorical question, sorry. I love the art work on the record covers, portraying that event in KIEV, of all places. It was the composer’s friend who competed in a design competition. An interesting story that is a fine background for this amazing piece. 🙏Thanks for bringing this video to my beautiful morning.
Look up 'Bande a part - the Louvre scene'.
Makes as much sense as running through the Grand Canyon, to flip a phrase.
Thank you,The Oslo Philharmonic, Maestro Semyon Byckov.Great interpretation! Now that it’s complete shared.
No performance is as interesting and intriguing and captivating as this performance
There Ìs no orchestra more wonderful and amazing and impressed than this orchestra
From
Tokyo of Japan
This is my second favorite live recording of The Great Gate Of Kiev. The audience seems unimpressed. Compare to Solti and the CSO in Japan , 1990(?).
The Cleveland Orchestra played this piece March2,2023 - equally as marvelous. Both Orchestra are TOP NOTCH
Just perfect!!! 🙌👏
The facial expressions like at 23:35 make it so entertaining to watch Bychkov conduct. The passion is evident.
23:35? The back of heads of the violinists ?
@spikespa5208 No look at Bychkov’s sudden expression
@@kingofthenerds7925 OK. My bad.
One of the most emotional interpretations I’ve heard, I love this
This was a great performance. Visually, it is stunning. Great musicianship, and great videography!
Hats Off for playing this impeccable performance
Excellent. I loved watching the musicians emotionally in step with the music.
A execução neste vídeo é execpcional, é difícil imaginar algo melhor. Parabéns!
Fantàstica. Excelete ina maravillosa interpretacion
Oslo Philharmonic’s performance is unrivaled by any other performances
This splendor of words can not arrive
Ì seem to wander around in this exhibition full of the joys and the sorrows that shows infinite expanse
All I can say: Whoa... suuuuperb
Very nicely done. One of the better performances of Pictures I've heard. Leonard Slatkin, however, (for me) remains the master and supreme interpreter of Pictures. Of course that figures because Slatkin is an expert on the work and has done his own arrangement of Ravel's orchestration. Maestro Bychkov's pacing is a tad too deliberate for me.
ESPLÉNDIDA VERSIÓN. GRAN ENTREGA. EXCELENTE FILMACIÓN.EMOCIONADOS RECUERDOS.TENGO 92 AÑOS.SOY FUNDADOR DE LA ORQUESTA FILARMÓNICA DE CHILE (1955).EN MIS 68 AÑOS DE CHELISTA SINFÓNICO, PROFESOR Y SOLISTA, HE TOCADO ESTA OBRA MAGISTRAL CON DIFERENTES BATUTAS. ESTA ME GUSTÓ MUCHÍSIMO. ¡ BRAVO COLEGAS DE LA FILARMÓNICA DE OSLO! UN FUERTE ABRAZO. ess
Speaking for myself, Thank you, sir. The musicians must be proud to read your affirmation.
Grande maestro!
Happy to see a new interpretation of Pictures, probably my favorite classical suite.
Mine as well.
Nice Bydlo Mr Euphonium!
One of most famous composers in a gorjeous interpretation
Wonderful, thank you for sharing this.
Genial versión a mi parecer.
BRAVO Of !
thank you so much, Oslo
Danke.
That venue seems like an amazing place to hear this masterpiece.
I want say just Love them !!!
The perfect tempo for this piece. Some play it too fast... this is perfection
Awesome opus, magnífico, very good performance thanks 👌 👏 👏 👏
11.04.2022 г.
Thank you.
The best recording
You gotta love Bychkov, he's an awesome conductor!
Wow and Bravo!!!
Bravo ❤
25:55 - with headphones that have bass amplifiers make it so much more powerful.
Running it through an equalizer on full home stereo, incredible.
Virtuous! A masterpiece
Goooood YES! I was really hoping this masterpiece to be released by you, one of my favorite! Wonderful performance and amazing video quality, Thank you Oslo Philharmonic for your huge work!
Przepięknie.
Bravo!
BRAVO :)!
최고!
Maravilhosa!
Excellent performance 😊
Bravo !!!!
What a great orchestra! I hope one day we should hear the Oslo Philharmonic in Budapest, at Béla Bartók National Concert Hall! :)
BRAVO OSLO
Grand respect, très grand respect, per tutti
O sorriso da violinista é tudo
Oslo's entire brass section is astounding!
I got shivers from listening and watching. Bravo, maestro & orchestra. Wonderfully led & played.
Thanks, Neil
참 좋습니다(very good)!
This recording is mixed so well
Bravo Euphonium, Bravo Tutti
I prefer this orchestration because the woodwinds and brass also get to play interesting and fun parts. As do the strings
I've seen many different performances of this piece over the years but this one tops them all. I felt it was speeded down in many parts lending it more dramaticism.
The technical interpretations, fluid, seemingly effortless execution, unified, beautifully balanced ensemble presentations, all combined to reach a level zen not often witnessed.
My biggest disappointment was the elephant representation being performed by a euphonium rather than the bass tuba, which is, as I believe, originally indicated in the score. Euphonium substitution may be permitted in the score, i can't recall, but I was always instructed to play it on bass tuba.
Notwithstanding that minor niggle, this performance is one of those rare examples when all of the stars align, communication between conductor and his ensemble is in perfect sync, and all of the composer's wishes are magnificently realized.
❤❤❤
Best performance of this piece I've ever heard!. Who is the principal trumpet player? He's fabulous, and he totally looks the part.
Thanks a lot! His name is Axel Sjöstedt.
W Trumpet Solos
Wonderful performance tarnished by the shameful number of ads by UA-cam. Two minutes of music, then ads. Two minutes of music, then ads. I’m not kidding either 😕
18:20 Great Cornet Duet!
👏💯🕊️
cool
