@Fiorenza Freedom I agree, i hate how Mario Kart feels more about luck than skill as where Sonic Racing is almost all about skill. Sonic Racing Transformed totally blew my mind. I had low expectations but it ended up being my favorite kart racer. I would personally rank it waaaaay higher than Mario Kart. However if i look at Sonic Racing Transformed and this game i kind of feel like Transformed is the better version, but perhaps i should try it before i judge it purely base on UA-cam videos.
Update from my side, unfortunately (but i already felt it coming) Team Sonic Racing is NOT better than Sonic Racing Transformed. It's still a great racing game but Transformed is way better.
@Fiorenza Freedom I understand what you are saying. I can't wait to play it some more after work to get a better impression. Is it just me or are the cars a bit harder to handle compared to Transformed? I haven't played Transformed in a while and despite that i did pretty decent with my first several rounds. I also still need to understand that whole team mechanic a bit better because it's basically THE way to win in this version of Sonic Racing.

I do like seeing Silver and Blaze appear, but Vector should be with Espio and Charmy as Team Chaotix. A third member for Silver's team would be Marine the Raccoon from Rush Adventure. I am really surprised about the lack of characters.. there is a massive variety of characters from the Sega universe that could've been added to this game. And also I was really hoping that they would've included the "Transform" aspect from the previous version of this game. Overall it looks good but I'm a bit disappointed to say the least.

I might just have to grab it for the Xbox One X for the boost in performance... But the Switch is the console I traditionally think of first when it comes to couch co-op/party-type games... tough call.
Wade Taylor I’m a PC guy, but I still got it for Switch since most my friends own switches and wanted to play online with me. I would love it to be in 60fps, but the 30fps does not bother me in the slightest as the game still looks beautiful and it doesn’t look to drop frames at all. So overall I’m glad I got it on Switch, currently I enjoy playing it at work as well.
DaveDynamite1 Right on. I stopped at Walmart last night and saw that the Xbox version was only $32. I went ahead and scooped it up and am enjoying it quite a bit. I didn't think I would like the team mechanic but I actually enjoy it a lot. When it goes on sale, I will probably buy for Switch as well.
I've been checking out Team Sonic Racing on my Switch (I also have the PS4 version yet haven't started on it), and it's a lot of fun. The more I play it, the more I learn how the game works, and that's something that I find very important in any video game. You can just pick it up, play it, and know exactly how the game works right away. Despite being the big SEGA fan that I am, I don't play much of their other franchises all that much, but I still found the crossover element in All Stars Racing to be interesting as it helped open me up to some of their other franchises. As for kart racers, they're always a lot of fun. I mean, who doesn't like Mario Kart, at least apart from gamers who hate games that aren't violent and macabre? So with that said, I figured Team Sonic Racing would be a lot of fun. My biggest gripe with Team Sonic Racing, however, was that it didn't have the custom-character feature that was like the big seller for Sonic Forces. I figured that if there was going to be another Sonic game with this feature, this game would've definitely been it. The characters themselves are my favorite aspect of the franchise, including characters that people and organizations apart from SEGA have the rights or licenses to, and because of that, I always love Sonic games that have a huge roster of playable characters. In fact, being the HUGE Amy Rose fan that I am, I love it whenever she's a playable character in any Sonic game. If Amy's a playable character in a certain Sonic game such as Team Sonic Racing, you can safely bet that it's a game I want.
I love the game with two complaints. Normal mode can be too difficult and the lack of characters from the Sonic Universe. Team Chaotix? (Mighty, Espio, & Charmy) What about Team Sniper? (Bark, Bean, & Nack/Fang). I expected them after seeing the M.I.A. characters in Sonic Mania.
I wanna see Espio and Jet the hawk. They said there will be no dlc or microtransactions. They said they dont believe in all that and want everything to be on the game. If there is any, itll be free they stated. I find this a very good move and hope other game developers are listening. They also sold the game for almost half the price! Great game and they have all my support!
@@nicknasty14 That's right. We haven't seen the Babylon Rogues since the Riders games. They would fit right into the racing formula. I expected more characters from Sonic's Universe overall since it wasn't focused other SEGA franchises.
This game looks fluid great animation on different tracks reminds me a bit of Mario Kart just missing better characters & levels. Definitely will check this out.
@@ididzelda probably as I know that the ps4 runs at 60fps single player while switch runs at 30fps single player which means that other consoles probably won't drop lower than 30fps
@@ididzelda no even on the ps4 PROOO and xbox one X it will also drop to 30fps which is also unacceptable for those consoles but still not as bad as 15fps.
I loved the Sonic All Star Racing game last gen!! It had a bunch of great characters from popular IPs. Each had a unique kart & stage. I was excited because they included Vyse from Skies of Arcadia. My favorite JRPG from the Dreamcast & GameCube. I thought Sega forgot about Skies of Arcadia... I really hope they port Skies to the Switch so I can finally sell my GameCube which I keep just so I can play the best JRPG ever Skies of Arcadia once every other year. The game could use a remaster & a sequel. It's the same people that made the Valkyria Chronicles games. In the first Valkyria Chronicles you could get Vyse & Aika(2 main characters from SoA) on your squad.
I agree. I just bought the game and compared to Transformed it is still a fun game but Transformed is just so much better in every way (except graphics, although they are still good too).
In terms of variety and stages yes cuz they came from other sega franchises. This game just takes a newer spin on racing with team mechanics and i find it quite enjoyable. No blue shells or any such BS item largely skill based
Optimization needs some work , when 12 players are close and firing wisps the game does slow down , also when collecting rings the sound glitches . The playable characters are thread bare , they should of changed Blaze and Silver to Espio and Charmy , also should of changed Big and Chao to Mighty and Ray , would of made a proper Team Chaotix and Team Mania . The actual types of racing are thread bare , unlike Transformed , no boss battles or destroy the tank , power-ups are pitiful unlike the previous 2 games , racing characters only get like 3 wisps in total whereas the power racers get a lot more . Honestly this feels like a step back instead of forward , I do not hate this game it's still fun but it is not the on par with Transformed or even Sega All-Star 1 . No Team Chaotix proper is a complete let down honestly and this feels like a beefed-up DLC for Sega and Sonic All-Star Racing in truth .
This game reminds me of the super underappreciated and rare (see: expensive) N64 game Stunt Racer 64. The sky tracks being held up by helicopter propellers and the forward/backward flips you do when you make any jump 100% looks like Stunt Racer.
All of the Seaside Hill, Casino Park, and Final Fortress tracks from this game are remakes of tracks from the last 2 games with a fresh coat of paint. NOBODY TALKS ABOUT THIS, and I don't understand why since that is literally 9 full tracks reused. The new tracks are great and the new look of old tracks look amazing, but that's still almost half of the game of old tracks and only 12 new tracks added. For comparison, there were 16 original tracks +1dlc in Transformed and 24 original in SegaAllstars.
@@mannycampos6885 by determing a game through numbers you damage the ability of gamers who read reviews to enjoy the game. Hey, your the first reviewer to acknowledge the base ps4/One performance. So many channels only use the pro/x for comparison and act like it carries over to base systems as well =b which it doesn't. It's even more annoying when they title it as "swicth vs ps4" and only show the pro. I'm just like, no, this is switch vs ps4 pro.
I played the demo at gamescom at was turned off but the more I heard about how people recepted it after playing for hours and remembering that I struggled with Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed in the beginning but really loved it once I got into things...And the soundtrack is said to be really nice, too... ... Okay, I bought it. Hopefully will have the same fun with this like with Transformed.
RGT 85 that wasn't very thorough - how come you didn't mention the horrible glitches in the garage? It really seems like the Switch version was an afterthought.
I rented this game from my local library. I agree, it's a fun game. But, I don't think I will go out of my way to buy it. Maybe if there is a sale and it's knocked down of half price, I would consider picking it up. But, eh... there really isn't anything special or memorable about it, like you said. It's just a standard kart racer as far as I am concerned.
PC exists for a reason. For those that don’t care about frame rate & also want portability that’s what Switch is for. Also, Switch has become the fastest growing console this generation so most people are getting a lot of use out of their Switch’s.
@LUCAS NEIRA 7867 2019 how?...my switch barely gets touched, my ps4 and PC get all the play, switch games are too low quality. I got the PC version to play on my laptop on the go, and didn't need to Sacrifice quality like on the switch, 60FPS baby!!!!
Huh, nice review! Team Sonic Racing is one of my favorite games in the Sonic series. It only trails behind Colors as my second favorite Sonic game. My love for TSR is reflective of how much I like the 2010s era for Sonic; it has a very basic narrative with cringe jokes and corny writing. What I like is seeing Zavok as a fully playable character. Moreover, I always wanted a sillier Sonic racing game since getting into the franchise in 2011. I'll keep your review in mind whenever I get the itch to play Team Sonic Racing in the future.

@@fenderman21guitar In skill, yes
It's a fantastic game but in no way is it as good as Mario kart..
@@RandomUA-camGuy87 youre right, all 3 Sonic All Stars based racing games are even better than all Mario Karts
Story mode = SOLD!!
Antonio Alicea yes!!!!
Yesss
I casually snagged a copy of this for $19.99 from out of a local Redbox machine. Alright deal, yeah? :)
Everyone should down a beer every time that they hear "actually"
Cheers! I'm going to pick this one up.
Get the PS4 version
I might buy this just out of pure respect for releasing a game properly in 2019.
?
Kendale Kyle “missing better characters”
I got it this morning, have yet to play it. I'll be playing/streaming it tonight. Hope it's as good as Sonic All-Stars Racing!
it’s called SEGA all stars racing this is the sonic first sonic racing game
@@itzalexplayzyt7016 yeah, that's what I meant lol...I have both and like them both.
@@tonyturbo13 yea i got it for my old DS lol
I can confirm that if you play this game 4 player split screen it will drop to 15fps. Thats unacceptable i hope the will reales a patch for that.
Wow
Is this only a problem with the Switch version?
@@ididzelda probably as I know that the ps4 runs at 60fps single player while switch runs at 30fps single player which means that other consoles probably won't drop lower than 30fps
@@ididzelda no even on the ps4 PROOO and xbox one X it will also drop to 30fps which is also unacceptable for those consoles but still not as bad as 15fps.
@@_jumbo9961 correct.
Give us a rating! :). Holding out for crash team racing!!! Woooooooo!!!!!
Can't wait for CTR
Sega All Stars Racing Transformed was still better.
No blue shells or any such BS item largely skill based
There is a manual in the Pal release and it even has color!
I picked this game up for PS4 today because when I was little, Sonic All Star Racing on the Wii was my childhood 🥰
Excellent review. Just started playing this again after about a year away. This is a really solid kart racer.
That sonic beat playing in the background is tough, and I'm all about team work so, I'm buying it...
This game reminds me of the super underappreciated and rare (see: expensive) N64 game Stunt Racer 64. The sky tracks being held up by helicopter propellers and the forward/backward flips you do when you make any jump 100% looks like Stunt Racer.
Hey man, what lav mic do you use?. I'm looking at getting a new one
In italy I round the MANUAL into the case !!!!!! Amazing
*found... Not round... Damn😂
it's not bad but it's hard to justify getting this when Mario Kart 8 and CTR are around
I honestly hated the All-Stars games and I'm really happy to have a pure Sonic racing game again
I have both ps4 and Switch. Which one should I get it for?
You should get it for the Switch. Game design matters.
Rgt85 what's you rating on this game?
Ratings are bad.
@@Nov-5062 how?
@@mannycampos6885 by determing a game through numbers you damage the ability of gamers who read reviews to enjoy the game. There are people who immidiately consider a game "bad" just for having a 7/10 grade. It's not very fair, especially when online critics love to smash games to pieces. There are fantastic games that are now lost forever just for getting a-67, or three stars out of five.
@@Nov-5062 Ikr the whole review score system now days are just bullshit and loss it's meaning of use.
7/10 is considered good. I wonder why people change the rating system
This game looks fun to me, but I'm a little disappointed that it's just Sonic characters and not Sega characters in general. I loved the Sega All-Stars racing games, and I was hoping for another one of those. I still want to play it though, that's just my nitpick haha.
RGT85, can you please do a review on American Fugitive on the Nintendo Switch? Thank you in advance.
Pete dorr should have been hired on as a consultant by the production company for the film.
they should have ported the all stars transformed. that one was great.
I started playing recently. My only complaint is that I wish more people played.
Been a while since I played it. Underrated game.
Just got it today I like it alot
I almost bought it today, still debating over it.
30fps on a racing game?... yeah no thanks, my switch has become the Ultimate Dust for these days.
@LUCAS NEIRA 7867 2019 There is a PC version. That's the version I plan to get.
There should be cross platform play online for games like this. Except Switch version because of its weak framerate.
PC exists for a reason. For those that don’t care about frame rate & also want portability that’s what Switch is for. Also, Switch has become the fastest growing console this generation so most people are getting a lot of use out of their Switch’s.
@@somany5 not really, 60fps is the most common on Racing games
30 fps for a racing game is not good. If you have PC or ps4, I suggest you buy the game on that.
Mario Kart on switch runs at double the frame rate with maxed out resolution.
$32.84 on Amazon now 👍🙂
Solid review mate, love ya work ! Btw, we got a little booklet in our cover in Australia, so......pretty stoked with that !
