Dark is the Night is a famous Soviet song associated with the Great Patriotic War. It was originally performed by Mark Bernes in the 1943 war film Two Soldiers. The song was composed by Nikita Bogoslovsky, lyrics by Vladimir Agatov specially for the film Two Soldiers
You are at a beautiful party with all your comrades laughing and enjoying. You look at their faces they are all happy. Talking to each other about their children and lives. You are enjoying the music that is playing. You see beautiful women dancing and drinking with their lovers. Such a wonderful world. Suddenly you hear a gunshot. Those beautiful colors are all gone. You wake up and see soldiers running around and screaming. Bombs are raining from the sky. You see all your buddies going down. Something drops right in front of you. The bomb throws you on the ground. Everything is blurry and you are slowly closing your eyes. Everything is black and quiet. A piece of music slowly starts playing. It's the same music from the party.
Why call everyone comrades? Such an ugly word, and it wasn't used for everyone. Calling someone a comrade mostly was when the person you are addressing is someone from government or from military. My ears bleed from this word

ENGLISH LYRICS: Dark is the night, only bullets are whistling around With the wind singing songs in the wires and the stars softly gleaming You are awake though the night has long covered the grounds As you're rocking the cradle, know you are quietly weeping Oh, how I want to see that tender look in your eyes Oh how I want just one moment to kiss them gently! We're miles apart. And although stars are lit in the sky Yet the dark steppe between us tonight feels so troubled and empty I do believe you'll remain ever faithful and true It's this faith that gave courage to me in the fiercest of battles And I'm at peace 'cause know I'm returning to you And whatever befalls me, for sure, I'll return in fine fettle I fear no death. It's been taking its toll all around And even now it is raging and will not settle You are awake though the night has long covered the grounds As you're rocking the cradle know I'll return in fine fettle
Yet another brilliant and very poetical translation....and the metrics in this English translation suit the rythm, so it us singable just like in Russian original. Bravo again! Molodetz !!!
Dark night, only bullets are whistling in the steppe, Only the wind is wailing through the telephone wires, stars are faintly flickering ... In the dark night, my love, I know you are not sleeping, And, near a child's crib, you secretly wipe away a tear. How I love the depths of your gentle eyes, How I want to press my lips to them! This dark night separates us, my love, And the dark, troubled steppe has come to lie between us. I have faith in you, in you, my sweetheart. That faith has shielded me from bullets in this dark night ... I am glad, I am calm in deadly battle: I know you will meet me with love, no matter what happens. Death is not terrible, we've met with it more than once in the steppe ... And now here it looms over me once again, You await my return, sitting sleepless near a cradle, And so I know that nothing will happen to me!
although I feel like this version takes away from the vibe of the original song with its more upbeat tone, it's still great nonetheless! I feel like this would be some sort of song which would be played at some war anniversary or museum.
I don’t know man, with this version I can imagine a soviet soldier in his civilian clothes now, at the victory celebrations alone, watching from afar - he lost everyone in the war. As he looks up at the fireworks, he takes a last puff of his cigarette, and smiles. Then he walks away along the river, into the night. A bittersweet moment.

Gdy tak płaczesz scałować te łzy

Ciemna dziś noc
Step rozdzielił nas czarny i zły
I dlatego nie słyszysz mych słów
Gdy wiatr świszcze i kule
Wierzę i wiem
Żeś ty moja i ja jestem twój
I ta wiara serdeczna nie raz
Była tarczą od kuli
Błogo mi tak
Choć śmiertelny rozpętał się bój
I z uśmiechem już myślę o dniu
Gdy mnie znowu przytulisz
Co mi tam śmierć
Choć na stepie złowieszcza jej moc
Nad głową mą
Tak jak teraz zakrąży srożej
Czekasz mnie wiem

I can see this being the trailer music of a Fallout game set in Russia
Great version! Do you know who performed this? Thanks
Nope, I'm the first to upload it on youtube. I got it from a game mod. But the mod maker didn't actually perform it. I guess we'll never know.
This music is very lovely and it's like a film noir. Definitely use it to get girls running to you.
Indeed
Is this the one from the HOI4 Tannu Tuva mod?
Idk, never played it.
It feels like ending screen of war movie

the sound breaks a little on the loudest parts, i wouldn't be surprised if this was in a audio tape at some point. it could also be one of those cheap "orchestra version of popular song" compilation tapes and vinyls.
